Representing the pinnacle of chakra energy, Sahasrara (Sanskrit) allows inner communications with our spiritual nature to take place. This area serves as an entryway (or exit as well) for Universal life force or Prana to enter our bodies and be distributed along the pathway to the other chakra locations. At this point on the meditation journey, the lotus flower that symbolizes chakra light is now fully open to represent ourselves as receptive to the positive flow of the energy that sustains all life. Crown Chakra is the third, and final, member of the chakras that make up the Consciousness. Associations Location: The very top of the head, at its flattest point. This is the same area as the “soft spot” on a baby’s head. Crown Chakra governs the central nervous system and the cerebral cortex. Color: Vivid violet that is pure, by itself, and not tinged with color from any of the other chakras on the Chakra Rainbow. This is the prized thousand-petal lotus, with beautiful violet petals, in glorious full bloom. Element: Thought, as a living energy. Sense: All five senses, combined with the higher sense of intuition. Sound: The musical note “B” Spirit of Crown Chakra: This energy point represents the combination of the other six points, adding to them the power of direction and guidance. Sahasrara brings spiritual healing and a sense of rightness within ones’ self. Balance and harmony are key words associated here, as it takes the outcome of balancing all other chakras and makes that fresh, new energy, part of the total person. Signs That Crown Chakra Is Out Of Balance Regulating the central nervous system, Sahasrara therefore affects every part of the body, and so signs of a muddled or blocked Crown Chakra can be both physical and emotional. Health issues concerning the muscular system or skeletal system are prime symptoms of imbalance, as is hypersensitivity to light, sound and touch. Poor posture and difficulty performing asanas come with a blocked Crown Chakra. Aches that begin in the head and travel down the spine are associated with poor chakra energy flow.From an emotional standpoint, feeling unconnected to others, standing “alone in a crowd”, and having difficulty forming relationships of any kind are all indications of a slow energy flow. On the reverse side, being “first at the party and last to leave”, or constantly looking for ways to avoid being alone is another problem associated with a muddled Crown Chakra. How To Open Crown Chakra Before you begin, it may be helpful to have either a tuning fork for the musical note B, a Tibetan bowl or a drum that produces that sound, handy. You can also play the note on a keyboard or other instrument and practice imitating that sound. If you play a recorder or flute, that works wonderfully for this practice. 1. Situate yourself comfortably in Easy Pose or in Lotus on a floor pillow or folded blanket for cushion. Take a few cleansing breaths. Place your hands just above the top of your head, allowing them to hover above without touching it. You may now sing or play the musical note B to begin connecting with Crown Chakra’s energy. Allow the sound to vibrate within you. 2. Close your eyes and visualize the Crown Chakra opening, much like a small door, allowing the vibrant violet color to flow out. This color fills the room, wrapping everything around you in a warm and nurturing light. You have the knowledge that this is a positive and protective energy. Only good can be part of this violet light. Remain in this place for as long as you need to do so. 3. Breathe in the violet light as you take several deep breaths. What you exhale is what you do not need. You are now cleansing, clearing and balancing the Crown Chakra. 4. With eyes opened or closed, take your right hand and touch the top of your head, making three counterclockwise circles over the chakra. Remove your hand and shake it out. You have rid yourself of any negativity associated with the right side of your body and all it touches. Now touch your head with your left hand, this time making clockwise circles, removing your hand and then shaking it to rid yourself of any negativity associated with the left side of your body and all it touches. You may repeat this using each hand as many times as you feel necessary, making sure you always use both hands an equal number of times. 5. Close your eyes and create a picture of the violet light of the Crown Chakra glowing brighter and clearer – until it becomes a violet-white. Take your hands and sweep them over the top of your head seven times, representing the number of body chakras that are now all working together in harmony. Know that all of your life energy is flowing freely and giving you positive power. 6. Now picture the door of the Crown Chakra closing, knowing that it does this to keep in the pure light and keep the unwanted energies out. Brush each hand over the Crown Chakra one last time. 7. With eyes open or closed, imagine yourself as a mighty oak tree with roots that go deep into Mother Earth. Just as the tree, you are also grounded and secure. All is well and safe within you and around you. You have completed your Chakra Meditation session. Peace and health be with you!
