ON THE eve of LINDSAY Lohan's 90-day jail stint, the 24-year-old starlet is reportedly "a nervous, fidgety mess."

A source close to Lohan told People the embattled actress wasn’t coping.

"It’s been a rough weekend," a source said. "She has not been able to sleep and has barely been eating. All weekend, Lindsay kept crying, chain smoking and chewing her nails."

"She is a nervous, fidgety mess, and her legal team, family and friends are very concerned about her fragile state," the source added.Lohan’s fragile state won’t be helped by news that she will only be able to shower "every other day" while checked into the Lynwood Correctional Facility. Gossip website TMZ also reports the Mean Gilrs star "will get two cold meals and one hot meal every day," and "will not be allowed to interact with other inmates while she’s inside her cell", which could be up to 20 hours per day. The starlet is reportedly still in denial over her sentence, even in the eleventh hour. Lohan’s new attorney Robert Shapiro, whom the 24-year-old hired last week in a last-minute bid to escape her jail sentence, reportedly agreed to represent Lohan only on the condition that she served her jail sentence.

"Lindsay is convinced there is still a way she can avoid jail, even though Shapiro made it clear he would only rep her if she went to the pokey," TMZ reported.

Since July 14, Lohan has been staying at a Los Angeles area "sober-living" facility, Lindsay’s estranged father Michael Lohan told FOX News Channel.

"It’s a positive step, but if they don’t detox her off the prescription drugs it means nothing. Absolutely nothing. They have to get her off the prescription drugs. If you look at the list of things she’s taking, it’s toxic. I don’t even know how she’s still alive," Michael Lohan said.

The Pickford Lofts, where Lindsay Lohan is staying, was established by LA celebrity attorney Robert Shapiro, who acted as defense counsel in OJ Simpson’s murder trial. Shapiro’s own son died as a result of an accidental overdose of Ecstasy in 2005, LA Weekly reported.

Shapiro confirmed Friday that he is representing Lohan in her drug and alcohol case — but only on the condition that the actress serves her jail sentence.

"I have agreed to represent Ms. Lohan on the condition that she complies with all the terms of her probation, including a requirement of jail time that was imposed by Judge Marsha Revel," Shapiro said in a statement.

"Ms. Lohan is suffering from a disease that I am all too familiar with. Hopefully, I can be of assistance to Ms. Lohan and Judge Revel in implementing a treatment approach recommended by medical professionals for Ms. Lohan’s long term recovery and sobriety," Shapiro said.
