At the Gilbert’s, Not Lucius Vorenus but Sark from Alias Not That Therese Watched That Show has eluded the CIA once again, and seeks refuge with the family under the guise of kindly Uncle John. They’re overjoyed pleased less than thrilled to see him. Jenna doesn’t even try to pretend to be happy that he’s there. She really was hoping that he would just sign the papers so she can sell his brother’s office. Also, if he could refrain from telling Jeremy over dinner that they used to have the sexy time, that would be greaaaat. Apparently, things are never easy with Uncle Sark.

Boone joins the Founders’ Council meeting already in progress. Sheriff Mom reports that the coroner will list Vickie’s cause of death as an overdose, and the truth of the matter will never leave the room. What happens at the funeral home stays at the funeral home. Mayor Lockwood turns the floor over to Uncle Sark, who comes to the group with pressing news. The hospital blood bank in Amherst County has had several break ins over the past two weeks, and thirteen people have gone missing within a 75 mile radius of Mystic Falls. “You think all of your problems are over … but nothing’s been solved.”

At school, Jeremy sits with Tyler trying to make sense of Vickie’s death. They say it was an OD, but she had been doing okay. Well, other than that time you left her partying with the small town lifers in the cemetery. And if it was drugs, the person she was with would have just left her, not taken the time to bury her. Okay, that’s a disturbing observation. No more Law + Order: SVU for you mister.

In Alaric’s classroom, he shows Elena Jeremy’s vampire paper. Alaric tells her that Jeremy didn’t think it was real, and Elena hopes that’s still the case. She’s tried so hard to protect him from everything. Alaric wonders how she can do it, lying to everyone she loves. She insists it’s the only way to keep them safe. She lies because she loves. And Stefan’s different. He would never do anything to hurt her.

Later that evening she worries to Stefan over the lies and deceptions that just keep piling up. She frets that Jeremy’s memories could be coming back, despite Boone’s glahmuh. She knows she should talk to him, but she doesn’t know how anymore. They used to be so open with each other. He doesn’t even know she’s adopted. Stefan urges her to take the first step. At least find out what Jeremy knows, but be prepared for what she finds. She switches gears, asking how he is, and he lies assures her that he’s fine. His body just needed a few days to readjust. And now that it has, it’s sexy time … at least until his beastly urges threaten to overtake him, his eyes go veiny, and he has to fling himself across the room to keep from hurting her. So you know, he’s good.

The next morning, Boone arrives in answer to Elena’s worried summons. Stefan is clearly struggling and he’s not himself. Boone thinks that could be part of the problem. “He’s spent too long not being himself.” She only knows good Stefan. Reign it in Stefan. Fight against his nature Stefan. Deep down, he’s more like Boone than he would ever admit.

Since Elena can’t solve that problem, she moves on to another. She and Jeremy take a walk by the lake, and she tells him about her adoption. More importantly, she tells him that he’s her brother and that’s all that matters. Aww. *hearts* She compliments him on how well he’s doing in school, and then asks about the vampire paper. What drew him to the topic? He claims boredom, and then tells her he’s just another in a long line of Gilbert crazies – not that she would know, since she isn’t one of them. It’s actually very sweet sibling banter.

Founders Day kick off party. No wonder so much of the school year is devoted to planning and executing elaborate events. It’s all training for adult obligations and responsibilities. As a member of a founding family, Boone keenly feels that pull. He still hates everyone, but he just loves that they love him. Heh. Stefan has fortified himself for the evening by spending the day at the bottom of the Scotch decanter. He’s acting more like Boone already! His fall is inevitable.

Mayor Lockwood glad hands with the Donovans This town may be a family, but Lady Kelly bitterly observes that it takes a dead kid to rate special treatment. She takes off for the bar while Matt swigs from a purloined bottle of the good stuff, courtesy of Tyler. Elena also finds Stefan getting his drink on. The sweet, sweet healing booze takes the edge off. There’s no need to worry. He’s just going to stay sauced until the cravings go away. But it’s cool, he’s totally a happy drunk who’s going to glahmuh the DJ so they can dance, dance, DANCE! Boone can’t believe it. Has he “entered an alternate universe where Stefan is fun?” I know, right? Don’t question it, just enjoy it. He’ll be fine. Eventually. “One way or another.”

Everyone is having a lovely time until an overenthusiastic spin sends Elena into another party goer. She apologies, he gets mouthy, and Stefan gets grabby, glahmuhing an apology out of him. But hey no, everything is good. We’re all fine here … how are you?

Boone steps away to have a quick convo with a “smashing” Sheriff Mom. She tells him that Uncle Sark’s claims checked out. They may have a problem. Jeremy compounds the issue by asking questions about Vickie’s death. They may know the cause, but someone put here out there in the woods. *cough* Boone *cough* The Sheriff stiffly assures him that the case is still open, but there’s nothing more she can tell him. Now move along.

Elena and Boone compare notes on troublesome brothers. Under no circumstances is Boone to glahmuh Jeremy again. She’ll handle it – and by handle, she means she will both clumsily dismiss and reinforce his suspicious before out and out lying to him. And scene.

Jeremy leaves the party early in order to go home and ransack his sister’s room. He finds her vampire diary secreted behind the painting over her bed. “Bodies drained of blood.” “Take away his pain.” “Vickie was a monster.”

Lady Kelly is dealing with her daughter’s death in her own way – by sneaking off and drinking with Tyler. She can’t let herself think about it. Tyler can actually sympathize. He was a Richard to Vickie, and he can’t ever make it right. He doesn’t feel like he even deserves to miss her. They share a moment, commiserating in their shared aloneness, before moving on to sharing each other’s saliva. “MOM?!!” Matt rushes over, pulls Tyler away, and then punches him in his mother kissing mouth. Fight fight fight. Tyler swings at Matt, sending him crashing into a table and Lady Kelly sprawling to the floor. Tyler continues pummeling his best friend before wrapping both hands around his neck. Sam, is that you? In response to Elena’s cries for help, Alaric rushes over and pulls Tyler away. Elena tends to Matt, but his only thoughts are for his mother.

As a full moon hangs over Founders Hall, Tyler tries to explain his actions to his father. He doesn’t know what happened. He was drinking, and then he just lost control. He can’t explain it. The Mayor doesn’t answer right away. He shrugs as though he’s satisfied, and then backhands his son across the face. Tyler is stunned. “This is the last time you ever embarrass this family.”

Uncle Sark finds Boone outside getting some air, and makes his introductions. He had forgotten how much fun these small town celebrations could be. Considering that his last visit was for his brother’s funeral it’s not surprising. He wonders what Boone thinks about their potential vampire problem. It’s very real, and it could be a blood bath. “LIke 1864 all over again. I guess we’ll just have to hunt them down, throw them in a church, and burn them to ash.” There’s another part of the story – The tomb under the church. The vampires waiting for someone to come along and set them free. – but Boone knows all about that … “You’re the one that did it.” Uncle Sark should also know that Boone could rip his throat out in a trice. However, since he’s probably ingested vervain, Boone will settle for snapping his neck and tossing his body from a great height. YEAH!

Boone seeks out Stefan. Does he want to hear how the Council is back in vampire hunting mode, or how he just killed Uncle Sark? At the moment, Stefan is interested in neither. All he can hear is the sound of a woman weeping. More than that, he’s drawn by the irresistible scent of blood coming from the giant gash on Lady Kelly’s forehead. He’s mesmerized by it, reaching out and stoking his hand across the wound. He suddenly comes back to himself, and scampers away to a dark corner of the grounds so he can gnaw on his bloodied fingers. Eww. Sam Winchester called again. He said he spent an entire season taking blood hits off a demon, and even he thinks you’re kind of skeevy. Stefan hurries away from the party, and walks right into the dance floor jerk from earlier. Just get out of the way, and let him by. Please. DJ thinks he knows what’s going on. No girl to show off for? He pulls back a sucker punch that Stefan easily catches in mid air. His eyes go veiny as he slowly crushes his hand, and forces DJ to his knees. He must have fallen … he’s clumsy …

The party is also over for Lady Kelly, in more ways than one. She arrives home to find Matt packing her bags for her. He can’t do this anymore, so just go already. She’s done it more times than he can count. He’s better off without her. She cries and apologies and make more promises that they both know she’s going to break. Matt’s just done. He wants her out of the house, and out of his life by morning.

Back at the party it’s time for Mayor Lockwood’s remarks. The upcoming Founder’s Day celebration is a special one, marking the 150th anniversary of Mystic Falls. He welcomes a special guest to ring the Charter Bell – Uncle Sark. It’s good to be home. It’s good to be alive. As he pulls the bell cord, Boone notices his ring. It looks just like Alaric’s. This would be a huge coincidence, “if he didn’t just come back from the dead five minutes ago!” Boone and Alaric follow him out of the party. Boone’s not thinking of killing him again is he? Sark knows more than they can imagine, more than even the Council. If he dies, all that knowledge will be passed on to them, including “the fascinating little tale of the original Salvatore brothers … and their present day return to Mystic Falls.” As for his own super special ring of not dying? He and his brother Grayson each inherited one. “I wouldn’t have given mine to Isobel had I known she’d hand it over to another guy.” Of course he knew her. “Who do you think sent her your way when she wanted to become a vampire?” Did Boone think it was Katherine? So many questions …

After a pep talk from Elena about how they’re going to get through and back to normal, Stefan gets a reality check from Boone. It’s different this time, isn’t it? “The need is too strong. It would be after all these years.” Boone sets down his tumbler of blood. This time he doesn’t come back for it. This time Stefan doesn’t just look at it. “Have a good night brother.”
