Sorry to hear your diagnosis. Metastatic liver cancer is cancer in the liver that has spread there from another location. In this case, your colo-rectal cancer spread to your liver.

Cancer that has metastasized almost never can be cured, but chemotherapy, radiation, or perhaps surgery can sometimes control symptoms and extend your life.

My Stoma is placed to the left of my belly button and down a little bit. I still find it amazing that this glistening red rosebud like object on my stomach is actually the inside of my intestine! Some may find this gross, but I find it facinating. Without it I would have died.
I use a colostomy bag to collect the output. With each bag I need to cut a circular hole at the back so it will fit around my Stoma. I then peel off the backing to expose the sticky surface then stick the bag to my tummy.
Some people irrigate their colostomies. Which means that they give themselves an enema through their Stoma. By irrigating they can gain control over the output of their Colostomies. They irrigate through a nozzle connected to an enema bag, they then use a Stoma Cap to cover or plug up their Stoma so any stray output won’t mess up their clothes.

To anyone reading this who is terrified at the propect of having to have a Colostomy, let me tell you that it truely isn’t the worst thing in the world.
I am in my early 40′s and will have another 40 yrs of living with a colostomy. (without it I would have had only a couple of years at the most)
It just means that you go to the toilet a different way, that’s all.

The rectum is removed and the anus is sewn up so the patient has to have a stoma. My questions is:

How long after the rectum and anus is sewn up (surgery) is the stoma (another surgery) made? Do they have to be nil by mouth between both procedures with perhaps IV therapy (normal saline and dextrose, or TPN?

Jill answers:

They’d do it both in the same operation.

You’ll be nil by mouth for about 12 hours or so before the operation, and will most likely need a laxative. You will also be nil by mouth after the surgery, for a few days. It’ll start with nil by mouth, then perhaps clear fluids next day, normal drinks day after, then light diet day after that, and then finally a normal diet. Does days where you don’t eat, or drink much, you will be on an IV drip. Although the output from the stoma will be erratic for a little while.

Don’t be too disheartened if you have leaks and so on at first. You will probs have to keep changing bags till you get to the right one. I changed about 6 times before I got to one that would stay on or not leak, but that’s also because the chemo changed the acidity in my skin or something like that.

Good luck!

The answer is Yes! If you have high grade HPV than so does your partner, whatever hole he is putting it in has a higher risk of a secondary infection caused by HPV. HPV is with you for life, so stay calm, stay safe and dint stress out because that is the Number 1 reason for relapses of the HPV virus….

Colon cancer is also known as anal or rectal cancer. It is also often referred to as colorectal cancer. When tumors grow in the colon, this means that something is wrong with the large intestine. It may start from mild conditions such as fatigue, shortness of breath and irregular bowel movements. You may also experience some color changes in your stool, abdominal cramps and bloating. Colon cancer symptoms may not really be seen on a first-hand basis. You may only see it after a long time that it has been there.

Jill answers:

No. The most important ‘symptom’ happens to be your age . . Cancer is often age specific, so colon cancer and cancer of the organs generally happen in older people. Colon cancer can occur in younger people, but it is rare . . So if you are having 8 out of 9 symptoms and you are a teen or young adult . .it is probably something else. However no one here knows what you are experiencing, so it is always best to go to a doctor and have it checked out. If it makes you feel any better . . Colon cancer rarely has symptoms . . That is why most older adults have a colonoscopy to check for nodules . . You can’t feel them until they are advanced.

Look at the following illustration that demonstrates how a nodule will start out tiny and grow . . It is only when the disease becomes large that anyone would notice symptoms.

The only symptom of colon cancer that distinguishes it from routine digestive problems is unexplained and significant weight loss. If you haven’t lost a bunch of weight, its unlikely you have colon cancer. Something as simple as getting dehydrated from hot weather can cause bowel problems resembling colon cancer. Describe the symptoms to your parents and ask to see a doc if the symptoms are bothering you.

What would you call it, if you had a figure floating down from the sky and entering into your body?

My younger brother had passed away by taking his own life. We were close and I took it pretty hard..but I moved on with my life….Then about 8 months later, I woke up at 3am and I looked at the clock, got out of bed and I went to the bathroom and came back to bed and sat on the edge. I looked at the clock again and it said 3:03am. I noticed something up at my ceiling so I looked up. I saw a tiny figure of a muscular man surrounded by white and yellow sphere’s of light slowly floating down towards my left side. I watched it come down to the left side of my body by my shoulder and then it entered my body. When this happened I felt a sharp pain in my heart. I sat there for a while trying to figure out what had just happened …Ive gone as far as drawing a picture of it and even asking a priest what he thought it was, but he just starred at it and didnt know. Ive had many different pshycis tell me there thoughts and I have my own too…what are your thoughts on what it could of been?

Jill answers:

Not sure bout the figure, as I have never heard of a figure being with them. But the glowing balls of light you mention, are angels, as best as we call them. I have talked to a few that have had the same experience.

It was a ball about the size of a marble, looked like glass, but see thru. The white, bronze light came from the center like a brilliant star burst and was very bright, but at same time was not blinding. Light that came off them came to about 3-4′ away from the balls and stopped, not lighting up the room.

The “pain” as you call it, was a sense in your body like you have never felt before. Like a super tingle and goose bumps but at a much higher scale. A feeling of warmth also should of been with it. Should of been feelings your body has never felt before and has not since.

I have had this experience about 8yrs ago now, had 7 balls visit me one night while doing paperwork on the floor of my home office (so to those that say you were dreaming, I was awake and working). Mine came to me after I had been very ill. Had a bad case of meningitis and after wards when I was going thru blood tests, one night the balls came to me. My next blood test showed my blood stabilized and became almost as healthy as a new borns. Healed by a miracle as the Dr. Said.

I am unsure if this was an angel, or as I like to think, it was Yahushua himself, healing me w/ his left hand as he knelt before me. And the 7 balls of light that I saw, were the 7 stars in his right hand, as mentioned in Revelation.

Who ever it was, it was 1 of 3 miracles that led me 110% to God (YHWH) and Yahushua (Jesus).

Sorry there are many children out there that cannot understand what you experienced. From experience of 8 yrs now, carefull who you share with, as many will label you as a freak. But know in your heart, you are what the bible calls ” a set apart one choosen by God himself “. For we have been touched, something few receive, very few.

Also might help if you dig deep through your family tree. I did, and I was led back to the Tribe of Dan, one of the original 12 tribes of Israel. So that helped me undertand why I got touched.

Click>>> http://www.familywatchdog.us/
Write your Zip code. A map will pop out. Click on the red dots and meet your neighbors. It’s scarry, but true..

4:02 PM – “Watch for sex offenders near you”

To all the women, children and responsible adults…
I really can not express myself at all
To you women out there that thinks
Your body is so beautiful that you have no choice
but to expose it. I tell you what…
to a sex offender you could look like a dog
and they still find you attractive.
You can dress anyway you like
and they still see you naked.
Your brain can be wise and education high
but to them you are just a stupid Broad.
You think is fun to sexually appeal to a guy?
Wait till you become a victim of a Dudley dud.
Don’t mean to scare you but I always told my kids
I rather see you angry any time,
than raped dead in the streets.
Here is a map that tells you
how many sex offenders live near you.
Take time and search them and look at their pictures,
and memorize them too.
Do not be naive thinking these things are only in
Movies and they never happen to you.
How often anyone says to their family
I am going to be gone forever
And you won’t even find my body parts?
Not knowing your surrounding can cost you your life.
Not knowing who is behind
The cute guy you find at the corner bar.
Ladies respect you,
Take me as your mother,
But I did not raise my kids to be
A pray, for a dog in heat.
Someone at the corner is waiting
To knife every inch of your heart.
One moment you are,
And the other you are gone.
This is not a poem for Halloween
As Halloween is gone
May it not be your name I see?
In the, New York Times…
Pray daily for protection and don’t be too proud
Hear me out ladies there is truly a God.
Lord bless you all my sis, my children and my friends
Someone thinks about you even in her dreams.
This links to your awareness…
Take time for you or your child please,
Enough is enough I kid you not!!!

If someone is on a Methadone program will they be taken off of it before they have open heart surgery?

I was wondering if someone is in a Methadone program and they have to have open heart surgery if they will be taken off of methadone before they have their surgery ? I am worried about the dangers of being on it and having the surgery and being under anesthesia while on methadone and also I know it is not easy to get your system cleaned out from this drug …that it is hard on your body so I was wondering if they would keep you on it even through the surgery.Thanks.I am also wondering about this with the TEE test that they put you to sleep for too where they take the pictures of your heart with the tube down your throat. If anyone knows will you please let me know .Thanks so much.

Jill answers:

There would be no reason for you to come off of methadone…but it is very important that you let the anesthesia person know that you are on it. It should not be especially dangerous to get anesthesia because of the methadone as long as you are otherwise healthy.

I assume that you are on methadone for narcotic maintenance and avoidance of withdrawal? If so – coming off of it will necessitate going through withdrawal.

it’s a poem I wrote YOUR OPINIONS PLEASE!!!!?

I lay here to night in a dark silent room,
Feeling only pain and uncontrollable gloom.
Pictures of the blood flash in my head,
Pictures of you laying on the floor dead.
Never to come back and mess up my life,
I smile as I wipe your blood from my knife.
Your darkened red blood spills out on the street,
Your Colden heart stop DEAD in its beat,
I think back to all the pain and the hurt,
As I cover your body and spit on the dirt.
From you or your game I Can no longer run,
And me killing you was my turn for FUN.
Oh how they’ll cry and Oh how they’ll weep,
But I know their Sorrow is only skin deep.
As I turn to walk down the cold empty street,
I walk to the rhythm your heart used to beat.
I think Back to you lying dead on the floor
And smile knowing your heart beats no more!

line 1 = tonight is one word
line 12 = I think it would sound better if you said “And me killing you was my turn to have fun”

Does this help restore your faith????

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died,
My 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she
missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when
Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we
could so she dictated these words:
Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with
you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as
my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her.She likes to play with balls and to

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and
Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it.
Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because
she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to
heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post
office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I
told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front
porch addressed, “To Meredith,” in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it.
Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called,”When a Pet Dies.” Taped to the
Inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened
Envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this
Note:

Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven.

Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.

Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it
stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our
bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am
sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have
something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping
you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I
picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very
much.

Jill answers:

Surgery in these cases is considered palliative even with complete surgical resection of the tumor. There is no cure for this cancer. The median survival is about 1 year; untreated it is about 3 months. There are a few reasons for this. For one the tumor cells are very resistant to chemotherapy and other conventional therapies. The brain is susceptible to damage due to therapy and is limited in its capacity to repair itself. And many drugs cannot cross the blood brain barrier. However, about 1 in every 5,000-6,000 survives for decades. You may want to look at UCLA’s website for more information as they do a lot of research in this area.

Jill answers:

Survival depends greatly on the stage and you will not know that until after surgery. The amount of time surgery takes also depends greatly on the extent of the disease, if she has had other abdominal surgery, etc. Several areas need to be inspected and as much of the disease, hopefully all, is removed as possible.

Jill answers:

In 2008, an estimated 21,500 adults (13,190 men and 8,310 women) in the United States will be diagnosed with stomach cancer. It is estimated that 10,880 deaths (6,450 men and 4,430 women) from this disease will occur this year. Most people diagnosed with stomach cancer are in their 60s and 70s.

The five-year relative survival rate (percentage of patients who survive at least five years after the cancer is detected, excluding those who die from other diseases) of patients with stomach cancer is about 24%. This statistic reflects the fact that most cases of stomach cancer are diagnosed when the cancer has already spread to other parts of the body. If stomach cancer is found before it has spread, the five-year relative survival rate is about 61%. So her chances are good! They are in her favour.
You must think positively, you will not lose her. Most of these operations are successful. Good Luck to you and your friend.

Appendices are normally located towards the end of a book – they should also be listed on the Table of Contents.

If you are referring to the appendix as a part of human anatomy, you might want to look in a section of a biology/anatomy book related to the digestive system…

Jill answers:

Your appendix is in the right lower quadrant of your abdomen. It is found at the point where your small intestine and large intestine join.

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the lining of the appendix spreading to its other portions. When an acute inflammation is involved, severe pain will be felt in the lower right part of the abdomen. By this time the appendix has usually become filled with pus. If not treated right away the infection can spread through the wall of the appendix and can turn into gangrene and rupture. Because of this, appendicitis is considered an emergency situation.

“If a man makes a hole in a watermelon, or a piece of dough, or a leather skin, or a statue, and has sex with it, then this is the same as what we have said about other types of masturbation [i.e., that it is halaal in the same circumstances given before, such as being on a journey]. In fact, it is easier than masturbating with one’s hand”.
“If a woman does not have a husband, and her lust becomes strong, then some of our scholars say: It is permissible for the woman to take an akranbij, which is a piece of leather worked until it becomes shaped like a penis, and insert it in herself. She may also use a cucumber”.

Jill answers:

For dinner make some rice using chicken stock/broth instead of water, some poultry seasoning, a bit of butter and salt and cook according to package directions. Add some frozen green peas towards the end of cooking and cook until the peas are hot. While the rice is cooking, brown some ground beef with sliced onions, minced garlic, salt and pepper – drain well when it is done cooking and mix it with the cooked rice.

For breakfast make oatmeal in the microwave using milk, sugar and cinnamon – throw in some dried blueberries, cranberries or raisins.

You can make yourself chicken salad sandwiches using either canned chicken or leftover chicken from dinner, mix in some cooked peas or corn or instead of a sandwich, eat it on a bed of lettuce with shredded carrots, diced celery, sliced radishes and sliced bell peppers. Top with your favorite salad dressing.

To get some of your fruits, make pork chops or chicken breasts and cook with fruit.

I love to cook with fruit and pork or chicken – they are such a great combination of flavors. You can use any part of the chicken, but I prefer to use boneless chicken breasts. I also prefer to use boneless pork chops but bone in or pork steaks will work just as well with this recipe.

Here is one way that I do mine: In a bowl, combine 1 cup sliced apples with a tablespoon of honey, teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, 3 tablespoons of sugar – you can use either white or brown sugar – and 1/2 cup apple juice or cider or pineapple juice – whichever you prefer and mix to combine; let sit while you brown your pork chops or chicken in some butter in a heavy pan; pour apple mixture over your pork or chicken, bring to a boil, cover and then simmer until pork chops or chicken pieces are tender. You can substitute peaches – canned or fresh – for the apples or use canned pie apples if you do not have fresh. Cherry Pie filling is also another good alternative to simmer your pork chops or chicken in.
**********************************************************************

Baked Chicken OR Pork Chops #1

Marinate your chicken in Italian dressing for about 1 hour then roll in Italian style bread crumbs that have Parmesan and Romano cheeses mixed in – bake at 375 degrees F for 45 minutes to 1 hour depending upon how thick/big they are. Serve with roasted potatoes, a veggie or salad.

Baked Chicken OR Pork Chops #2

1 box of stuffing mix like Stove Top
4-6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 can condensed Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken soup – I like Campbell’s but any brand will work
1/2 soup can of milk
1/4 cup bread crumbs – I like Italian style
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a small bowl, mix the can of soup and milk; set aside. Make stuffing mix according to package directions and spread into a greased 13×9 in baking pan. Place chicken pieces over the stuffing. Cover with the soup mixture. Sprinkle the shredded cheese and bread crumbs over the top of the chicken and bake for 45 minutes to one hour depending upon how thick you chicken pieces are. Serve with a green salad.

Prepared macaroni and cheese can be substituted for the stuffing.

Baked Chicken #3 or Pork Chops

4-6 boneless chicken breasts
1 can cherry pie filling

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and spray a baking pan with Pam or other non-stick spray. Arrange chicken on pan and spoon on 1/2 cherry pie filling. Bake for 30 minutes then spoon or brush on remaining pie filling and cook for another 30 minutes or until the meat is done. Serve with white rice, rice pilaf, roasted or mashed potatoes, a steamed veggie and a salad. If doing pork chops, do not forget the applesauce.
**************************************…

Stove Top BBQ’d Pork chops or Chicken

Melt a little butter in a big heavy frying pan, add some slice onion and cook until tender. Put you pork chops in the frying pan and brown on both sides. Cover with your favorite BBQ sauce, cover the pan and simmer until the chops are tender. Serve with rice, potato salad or mashed potatoes and a veggie.
**************************************…

Macaroni and Cheese – add a pound diced ham, a pound of browned hamburger or a package of sliced hot dogs and a package of frozen mixed veggies, peas or corn to the mac and cheese before pouring it into the baking dish to make a hearty meal.

Ingredients
8 ounces dried elbow macaroni (2 cups)
1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium)
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon dry mustard – I like Coleman’s English
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
2-1/2 cups milk
1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (6 ounces)
1-1/2 cups shredded American cheese (6 ounces) – I like to use Veleeta

Directions
Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain; set aside.

Meanwhile, for cheese sauce, in a medium saucepan cook onion in hot butter until tender but not brown. Stir in flour, dry mustard and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over medium heat until slightly thickened and bubbly. Add cheeses, stirring until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni. Transfer mixture to a 2-quart casserole.

Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree F oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until bubbly and heated through. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Makes 4 servings.

Saucepan Macaroni and Cheese: Prepare as above, except reduce milk to 2 cups. After draining macaroni, immediately return macaroni to the saucepan. Pour cheese sauce over macaroni; stir to coat macaroni with sauce. Cook over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until heated through, stirring frequently. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
**************************************…

Beer Brats

Boil your Brats in the beer that you have add some sliced onions and garlic to and use a good dark beer like Guinness. I actually like to use both Guinness and either Bass Ale or Harps Ale because I like the taste of Black and Tans. Remove the Brats and onions from the beer, keeping the onions. After removing your Brats from the beer, continue to boil the beer until you reduce it by at least half and then brush it on the sausages while grilling. Take the leftover onions and saute them in a pan or on the grill with a bit of butter and serve over the grilled Brats with spicy mustard and maybe some sauerkraut.
**************************************…

Smoked Sausage and either Au Gratin or Scalloped potatoes.

Make your own potatoes or use the Betty Crocker boxed ones, slice up a piece of smoked sausage and mix into the potatoes. Bake according to recipe directions. I like to serve this with a tossed salad and a large glass of unsweetened Iced Tea.

HAHA!! I believe in the word of Allah or God, not pictures. I believe in the Koran, and Bible, both are truth.(Even though parts of the bible was destroyed by whites, you can NEVER change the word of Allah or God. Besides in the bible it says that the guy that started Islam and the guy that started “Christianity” (it wasn’t called that then, this is a name the white man uses) anyways they were brothers. I think it was Sham and Hem or something like that, I have to look back, but they were BOTH MEN OF GOD (or Allah as you say)
BTW
Again the word “GOD” is the word the white man uses meaning SUPREME ONE, I have no idea what they called “God” in those days. Maybe they did call him Allah, I don’t know, so much history was destroyed by the white man.

Should I get my tonsils taken out?! Help!?

So here is my situation. I had mono back in November 2008, and was feeling almost back to 100% by mid-December. My tonsils, mainly the right one, were very swollen and so were my lymph nodes (which were the size of golf balls!) while I had mono. My lymph nodes went back to normal but my right tonsil has remained the same size and is very swollen still.

In January I got sick again and had a cough and sore throat, which went away after about 2 weeks. In February, I had the same thing happen again but was more severe this time and developed into pneumonia because I was coughing so hard. It went away about 2 weeks ago, and now my cough has come back with cold-like symotoms.

WHY DO I KEEP GETTING SICK? And why has my right tonsil STILL not gone down??? I can take a picture of it and post it but it is pretty greusome looking.

Had a very sore throat for 10 days now, noticed holes in tonsils?

I’ve had a very sore throat for 10 days now (it’s gotten better since the first day though). At first, I thought it was part of my cold because I was sick and I just had this sore throat but even after my other cold symptoms were gone, my sore throat remained. The pain has gotten better but it still hurts a little when I swallow (and i feel like this pain has varied .. like some days it will feel like its almost completely gone and today it feels like it hurts more). So because of this sore throat, i took a flashlight and looked at my throat in a mirror and noticed that my tonsils have holes in them (i’m not sure if they’ve always been there) but i wasnt sure if these holes had anything to do with my sore throat. There’s no white pus/mucus or whatever, there’s just numerous holes in my tonsils. Any idea what this could be? I don’t think it’s strep throat because i googled pictures of strep throat… there’s no white stuff or anything. The antibiotics i took at first (thinking it was a normal sore throat) helped it feel a little better, but also caused me a yeast infection so i stopped taking them, and consequently my sore throat hasnt gotten completely better. thanks for helpful input!

Jill answers:

I don’t think the holes have anything to do with it. You still have an infection even though you can’t see any white stuff. Is it red and inflamed? You could have tonsillitis which can’t just go away by itself. I suggest you visit a Dr or a medical centre and they can give you something else. But antibiotics are the best thing for them, I know you said they caused you yeast infection but you can use a cream for that until all your meds are finished and then your east will clear up.

Jill answers:

The information given by you are not the signs of Colon cancer. In my opinion you have Hemorrhoids.
The Hemorrhoid symptoms are:

    * Internal hemorrhoids. You can’t see or feel these hemorrhoids. But straining or irritation from passing stool can injure a hemorrhoid’s delicate surface and cause it to bleed. You may notice small amounts of bright red blood on your toilet tissue or in the toilet bowl water. Because internal anal membranes lack pain-sensitive nerve fibers, these hemorrhoids usually don’t cause discomfort. Occasionally, straining can push an internal hemorrhoid through the anal opening. If a hemorrhoid remains displaced (prolapsed), it can cause pain and irritation.
* External hemorrhoids. These hemorrhoids tend to be painful. Sometimes blood may pool in an external hemorrhoid and form a clot (thrombus), causing severe pain, swelling and inflammation. When irritated, external hemorrhoids can itch or bleed.

So it is better you go and have a through examination by your doctor for evaluating exactly.

However since you are worried much for colon cancer, I am giving below the symptoms of this disease also for your information.

Many people with colon cancer experience no symptoms in the early stages of the disease. When symptoms appear, they’ll likely vary, depending on the cancer’s size and location in your large intestine.

Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include:

    * A change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool for more than a couple of weeks
* Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool
* Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain
* Abdominal pain with a bowel movement
* A feeling that your bowel doesn’t empty completely
* Weakness or fatigue
* Unexplained weight loss

Blood in your stool may be a sign of cancer, but it can also indicate other conditions. Bright red blood you notice on bathroom tissue more commonly comes from hemorrhoids or minor tears (fissures) in your anus, for example. In addition, certain foods, such as beets or red licorice, can turn your stools red. Iron supplements and some anti-diarrheal medications may make stools black. Still, it’s best to have any sign of blood or change in your stools checked promptly by your doctor because it can be a sign of something more serious. -

My mom just had a colonoscopy and a polyp was found. She has always had somewhat irritable bowels and hemoroids but she says she really didn’t have any symptoms other than the existing ones. When you have a colonoscopy ask the doctor to look for flat lesions as well as polyps.Flat lesions are harder to detect but are believed to be a large cause of colon cancer.

Colon Cancer question?

If someone had colon cancer surgery and they removed 32 lymph nodes (in colon near tumor- non-metastatic) which tested NEGATIVE for cancer but the 2″ tumor they removed in the sigmoid region was cancerous but the surgeon felt he got it all, why are they still recommending ChemoTherapy- does this make sense? The patient is a 45 years old Female- it has been categorized as stage 2A. Surgery was 2 weeks ago.

I have to disagree with your other answer, as they can tell if it was completely removed. They know this when the cancer was confined to the colon and there were clear margins. However, in this case the cancer went completely through the wall of the colon and cancer cells could be circulating in her body or are waiting in pericolic tissues, there is no way to know until it is too late. If she gets chemo now there is an 80% 5 year survival rate. If she waits and it spreads it drops to 5%.

Is it possible to have colon cancer without having polyps?

I have been having persistent diarrhea for months. I have been to doctor, and she wanted me to try some diet things, fiber and such. Then if that didn’t help was going to refer me to gastroenterologist.

Well, in between those 2 visits, I had my yearly mammo and was diagnosed with stage IIb invasive ductal carcinoma. I had a bilateral mastectomy and I am currently in chemo. I am also HER2+++ so, I am being treated for that as well.

Still having serious diarrhea issues, though and oncologist sent me to GI doc and I had a colonoscopy yesterday. No polyps, but he said my sigmoid was very inflammed and he sent off biopsies.

Obviously, I am worried. Is it possible to still have colon canacer without him finding any poyps or growths?

I am savvy enough to use Google, I was just hoping for some personal experience. Thank you for any answers.

Jill answers:

Many cancers may be found in the colon. Polyps are significant in only a handful, mostly those in the descending colon. Cancer in the ascending colon often are accompanied by diarrhea.

Having said that, there are a number of other non-cancerous diseases of the colon including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Chrone’s disease/

It’s certainly understandable that with your breast cancer diagnosis you fear colon cancer, but if you can possibly put your mind at ease until you see the gastroenterologist with the biopsy results it’ll be so much better for you. Both of the conditions I mentioned are very effected by emotional upsets.

I wish you the best in your treatments.

I’ve had a colon polyp at age 32, and they are the leading cause of colon cancer if not removed. I had 2 checkups since they found that polyp and thankfully they didn’t find any more. I’ve always had bad problems with my digestive system. I guess it’s from having irritable bowel syndrome and never forgoing chocolate or milk products. It’s something i can deal with. I am not sure if IBS will cause polyps, or how they form. I just know they don’t hurt. They did cause some impaction, but not that bad. That’s how i knew i had the one i did.

They wil remove your polyps by putting you under sedation, and snipping them. Then you’ll do what i do, go in for an exam two or three times to make sure no more have grown. Your condition is not that serious, providing that you get rid of them. Of course they will take them to the lab after they snip them, to make sure none are cancerous. Sometimes they will be called “pre-cancerous”. I’m not really sure what that means, but i guess it means that they could turn into cancer if not taken out. All colon polyps can, so that’s kind of a redundant thing for the medical profession to say.

Be thankful that your doctor found them early! Godspeed!!!

Doctors out there, do you recommend that I get a Colonoscopy?

I am 58. I never had a colonoscopy done. I did have a sigmoidoscopy done about 3-4 years ago. I believe my mother’s brother died of colon cancer. The sigmoid I had was negative. Doctors out there…do you recommend this procedure ? thx.

Jill answers:

Absolutely.

If you have tiny polyps (the size of a pin head), they can be seen and removed easily. If you don’t, then you have 10 years until you need another one. (Your uncle is not a close enough relative to increase your risk of cancer, which would require the every 5 years check)

The sigmoidoscopy only looks at the last 1/3 of the colon, and polyps (that may turn into cancer) can pop up anywhere.

Go get it done.

What Stage Colon Cancer could I be in?

Went to the doctor yesterday after having blood in my stool and stomach pain and was told I have a tumor in my sigmoid! Obviously more test will need to be done but i’ve heard once symptoms develop its already too late? I obviously know nothing about this but are there higher odds I have stage 4 or is it totally random?! I have no other symptoms besides blood in stool and stomach pain off and on….
I’m 47 and have a CT scan scheduled later this week. I’ve had minor stomach pain for a couple months and it has increased recently and the bloody stools are off and on starting as far back a couple years but theres no saying that was because of cancer.
The gastro specialist said he was 99% sure the tumor is cancerous

Jill answers:

Whenever you ask a medical question please include your age. You really can’t come up with a good guess on stage based on symptoms alone. What you heard about once symptoms develop its already too late is partially true and is usually the case when the cancer is in the right colon, but not very likely when it is in the sigmoid. It would also be helpful to know how long you have had symptoms.

You are leaving out too much here to tell you much of anything else. I assume you had a colonoscopy yesterday and that is how the doctor knows the location of the tumor. Did he or she mention what it looked like? They can often tell if it is cancer by looking. Either way a biopsy would have been done and you should know the results in a week or so. Have you had a CT? This and the colonoscopy are far better tools to determine stage than your symptoms. It is also possible it is not cancer at all.
