Austin Recovery, a nonprofit drug and alcohol treatment center, has named a new executive director: Jonathan Ross. Here’s the press release.
In April, 2010, Bill Wigmore, longtime CEO of Austin Recovery and recently ordained Episcopal priest, expressed to the board of directors his desire to transition from CEO to a role in chaplaincy services. After a national search, the board today announced the hire of Jonathan Ross as the new president and CEO of Austin Recovery, the largest drug and alcohol treatment center in Texas.
Ross, a resident of Austin, Texas, comes to Austin Recovery from MAXIMUS where he served as chief of quality management. MAXIMUS is a publicly traded company (NYSE: MMS) providing government health and human services program management and consulting with annual revenues of over $700 million and 6,500 employees.
“When Bill told us he was interested in transitioning, the board didn’t want to let him go,” said Valerie Armstrong, chair of Austin Recovery’s board of directors. “When it was clear he was serious, the board took a hard look at our strategic plan and really thought through the skills and experience needed to provide the next stage of growth for Austin Recovery.” She added, “We wanted someone with strong business experience, as well as clinical experience along with a compassionate, enthusiastic personality. We are confident we’ve found all of those in Jonathan.”
In addition to his strong operations and performance improvement background in a corporate setting, Ross earned his bachelor and master’s degrees in psychology and spent years as a full-time therapist for individuals, groups and families. He also has extensive experience directing large residential treatment programs serving difficult populations. His distinctive blend of business acumen, executive leadership and clinical experience is well suited to lead Austin Recovery.
“I’ve had a very successful 10 years in the for-profit side of health and human services,” said Ross. “But I’m very excited to return to my clinical roots with that experience and join the non-profit world. My primary passion is helping people find the road to recovery from drugs and alcohol, so this position is a perfect match. I look forward to working with the Austin Recovery team to further increase our census, refine our clinical services, and expand our opportunities to grow as an organization.”
Austin Recovery is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency with a volunteer board approved by the Mayor of Austin, the Travis County Commissioner’s Court Judge and the District Court Judge. The agency employees 145 therapists, doctors, nurses, direct care staff and administrative and admissions staff with a budget of $8.3 million. They manage four campuses housing medical detox and a total of 250 residential treatment beds.
Ross’ first day on the job will be November 3, 2010.
