Do people who are diagnosed Diverticulitis typically alright?
Hi im my names Gunner im 15 my dad recently got diagnosed with Diverticulitis and he is now going into surgery because it ruptured his gut? im just wondering if this is common and if most people that have come out alright? any information would be greatly appreciated.
If by gut, you mean colon, he will be alright but have to have an ileostomy for about 6 months. People who ignore the symptoms, or are misdiagnosed for several years like my sister was, end up having to have their colon removed. It's not always an easy recovery and it's prone to leakage, like my sister's did, and that is another surgery to repair the damage.
I know several people who have diverticulitis. A co worker had to have surgery and a temporary colostomy. He is doing just fine and very active wind surfing, long distance bike rides….
Sometimes all that is needed is for a change in diet to keep it under control, if it is caught before there are any colon perforations.
