What causes more black color and black specks than white on an abdominal x ray ?

I had an x ray on May 15th, 2009 in the ER, of my abdomen because of chronic constipation and my doctor wouldn’t tell me the results. He just said he’ll fix me up. My diagnosis when I requested the x ray and report was Right Colonic Fecal Stasis. I have a lot of black specks in my upper right and upper left abdomen. The only white in it is my bones and belly ring. The rest has black circles, to many black specks to count and just almost completely black from top to bottom. What does the diagnosis even mean? Oh, and by the way it was not read by a radiologist. It was electronically read by another doctor.

Your doc says he will fix you up, but he really needs to discuss your xray results with you. It is very possible it needs to be reviewed by a radiologist and a report prepared before your doc even feels comfortable attempting to help you to understand it. The “right colonic stasis” simply means that there was feces in the Rt intestinal area, and suspect it was just looked at by another doc initially for acute abnormalities that could potentially be life threatening, but gave approval that is not the case. So do call the office and follow up with your doc.

Densities in kidney x-ray?

My 7-year-old daughter had an abdominal x-ray last week looking for constipation. Her doctor called me back saying she wanted to do an ultrasound of her kidney saying that there were 2 “densities”. She mentioned they could be kidney stones or “debris????” from something she ate that was not food? Is that possible? Also, could a density mean tumor? Thank you.

I don’t think its anything really bad to be honest. A good friend of mine had more or less the same thing. She was pain for a few days until they did the ultrasound. She was sooo worried when they found these “densities”. It turned out that it was a build up of skin inside the kidney. Believe it or not, and totally treatable. I hope this helps as I have 6 yr old daughter myself and i could only imagine how distressed you must feel. Good luck to ye!!

Causes of constipation and abdominal pain in a 7 yr old Akita?

I have a 7 year old female, American Akita. This is her second bought of constipation in 3 weeks. We have not changed her diet, and she has not gotten into anything. Both cases she has had are the same. She starts her episodes by not wanting to get up and walk, or lay down. This continues for about 12 hours. When I bring her to the vets(now 2 times) she has several bowel movements. She comes home and is still in pain for a few days, but not as bad as before the trip to the vets office. When we try to walk her, she tries to sit down and cry. We have done abdominal X-rays, they came out fine, and baseline blood-work, also came out fine. The only noticeable effect this has on her is a fever around 103 degrees. The vet is a loss with what could be wrong. Any ideas anyone?

The causes of pain in the abdomen are many and varied. They may be serious or due only to a dietary indiscretion, and are often transitory in nature. Symptoms will vary slightly according to the gravity of the condition and the location or cause of the pain

Personally, I would get a second opinion. It sounds like something should be done/given to help your pet.

But, just so you know, constipation in pets CAN cause lethargy, pain, irritability, fever, and in some cases if the stool is unable to be eliminated the health of the pet could be in danger.

constipation?

four the last 4 weeks i have been having constipation mixed with diahreea and sometimes i can get big amounts out sometimes its small i have no pain or fever etc

i went to two hospitals and my abdominal x-rays and blood and urine were accrding to the doctor were okay

should i worry?
its weird i have no pain no fever i feel overall okay

No, worrying does not solve problems. Sudden changes like that can be your body trying to tell you something is wrong. I can’t remember what someone wrote on one of these posts last week, but if you search Yahoo!Answers for constipation, you will probably find it.

For constipation, you eat fibrous foods – pears are the highest fiber in the fruit catagory. My health food lady also recommended magnesium capsules. My husband swears by seltzer water or Club Soda.

Diarrhea – take Imodium (over the counter) if you have more than two consecutive watery bowel movements.

My 2 year old just had?

an abdominal x-ray due to her constipation. After expecting that the prescriptions (milk of magnesia and miralax), suppositories, enemas, will eventually work..but all of them didn’t work. It took 9 days,i know i had a mistake i should have communicate it to her pedia even after 2 days without bowel movement..We brought her to her pedia, and then they tried to get the bowel from her (put a medical stick), they didn’t get anything. The doctor even asked me if i am sure that she has no bowel movement that long,i said i’m sure. She asked me if my daughter is eating, i said yes..that’s why they did an x-ray, we will know the result after two days. i am just worried..What do you think? Heard of this before? thank you, i appreciate your answers.

This could be a number of things, but sounds mostly related to compaction.

Is she complaining of abdominal discomfort? Is she having any bloating?

If she is eating and it is not coming out, then it’s obviously obstructed in the intestine somewhere. She may begin to experience nausea and perhaps vomiting soon as the compaction begins to build up.

This isn’t extremely rare and happens with children as their digestive systems adjust to different foods. Perhaps she’s unable to tolerate certain foods such as lactose or gluten.

Sometimes, if it’s severe compaction they may sedate the patient in order to be able to perform minimally invasive procedures to try to relieve the obstruction. Surgery may be a last resort or only treatment if the obstruction does not resolve or if a part of the intestine is becoming infected or loss of blood supply.

Keep her hydrated and comfortable.

You’re doing the right thing.
