Your Questions About Bad Livers Wiki

Thomas asks…
is marijuana good or bad?
Did you know that new research shows that marijuana actually kills cancer cells… rather than creating them? It actually causes them to eat themselves in a process called “autophage”.
Also, instead of killing brain cells, studies show it actually promotes the growth of new brain cells?

Did you know that the cannabinoid receptor is the most prevalent cellular receptor in our brains?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabinoid…
This mystery began to unravel in 1964, when tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the main psychoactive chemical in cannabis was isolated and synthesized by Raphael Mechoulam and colleagues in Israel. Subsequently, in 1988, Allyn Howlett and colleagues discovered the cannabinoid receptor in the brain. This receptor called CB1was a precise match for the unique chemicals called cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant (phytocannabinoids). This initial discovery led to scientists hypothesizing that humans are “wired” for cannabis. The CB1receptors have been found in the brain in areas that control the coordination of movement, emotions, memory, reduction of pain, reward systems, and reproduction, yet are almost absent in the brain stem (which affects our vital functions such as breathing). It appears that cannabinoid receptors, which modulate other neurotransmitter function in a retrograde “on demand” fashion are present in far higher concentrations in the brain than any other receptor. While the CB1 receptors are primarily found in the central nervous system, a second type, CB2, discovered in 1993, are found primarily in the immune system, GI tract, liver, spleen, kidney, bones, heart, and peripheral nervous system. In fact, the CB2 receptor appears to be up-regulated whenever there is tissue pathology.
Did you know that the government actually has the patent on medical marijuana… for use in fighting diseases such as cancer, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease and more?
And yet they repeatedly say that there is “no medical use” for marijuana.
Look it up. U.S. Patent #6630507
It’s like a MIRACLE DRUG because the endocannabinoid system in your body controls so much chemically… by stimulating this system, many positive effects can occur in many different organs of the body.
If you don’t believe me, check out the studies at www.pubmed.gov … just type “cannabinoids” and “cancer” in the search bar and you’ll see the results of the HUNDREDS of studies that show that the THC in marijuana actually kills cancer cells, both in human tissue cultures and in animals. But… they won’t let us do studies on humans because mj has been labeled the “devil’s weed”. HA!
But there is plenty of anecdotal evidence. (People who didn’t want to wait on the government to legalize medical marijuana to help with their illness. We’ve been waiting over 40 years, after all.) I have been in correspondence with the head of the biology dept at a major university in Colorado, and he’s knows people personally who have used super-concentrated cannabis oil to CURE their cancer. His own girlfriend got rid of her skin cancer completely applying cannabis oil topically. You can also find video diaries on the internet of people who have gotten rid of skin cancer using cannabis oil. Also video diaries of people who have had miraculous healing of 3rd degree burns. One video diary I found had an AIDS patient who was ingesting the oil and cut his T-cell count from over 800 to around 400 in just a few weeks.
Rick Simpson has cured hundreds of people over the last few years and has plenty of written and videoed testimony. Google “Run from the Cure”.

Mandy asks…
is something wrong with my liver? am i gonna die?
idk what is going on i just don’t feel well at all lately. like i am really tired all the time, even though i sleep plenty. i have a headache like all the time and i have circles under my eyes. i have severe depression and i can’t concentrate and i am irritable.
I was recovering from anorexia and i need to see the doctor every few months. recently i have lost a lil weight unintentionally due to sports and he said my pulse and blood pressure were low and he felt my liver and said it was slightly enlarged. then he had a blood test done on me for hypoglycemia cuz i hav been feeling very hungry like right after i eat and stuff and it came back negative and my blood levels were normal except for estrogen which was low.
but lately i am feeling even worse and im afraid this means im gonna die. i checked here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liver_disease and i have some of the symptoms of a diseased liver. so does this mean im dying. im only 16 and i dont want to die. what should i do?
i said my blood tests came back normal so the doctor didnt do anything. but i still feel like im dying so idk.
oh and i made some comment about how i couldnt be forced to see a doctor when im 18 and the doctor was like that is if you live to be 18.

Jill answers:
Caaaalm down! *huggles*
It otay! You won’t die, I’m sure. Don’t think that way, even if you might have a liver disease. At least you went to a doctor. I’m sure he would tell you and your parents something if you had a disease! Don’t worry! Calm down, everything will be okay.
You can’t win, if you keep telling yourself you’ll die!!
I’m sorry, I’m not so sure what to tell you! My sister was 16 when the doctor said she had a tumor (NOT trying to scare you!!!) and she had an enlarged liver. DON’T worry! My family has all sorts of health problems. =/
But, I really don’t think this is my place to tell what the medical situation is, although I wanna be a doctor.
If you feel pain, then keep asking your mom to take you to the doctor, especially if you start losing ALOT of wieght!
(Hopefully, there are good answers on here. =/)
I’m REALLY sorry for the bad answer!
Edit: What kind of doctor would say that? O.o
Hmm….

Ken asks…
Do you ever wonder How is alcohol legal? Cannabis VS alcohol?
Alcohol——1. Alcohol is a depressant. Excessive alcohol use increases the risk of a number of diseases: fatty degeneration of the liver, infection of the liver, liver cirrhosis ( More ) , sleeping disorders, sexual problems, infection of the esophagus, infection of the stomach, infection of the pancreas, premature dementia, varying from a reduction of memory to the serious syndrome of Korsakoff; cancer of the mouth, throat, larynx, intestines and breasts; hypertension and heart problems. Alcohol is also damaging during pregnancy. Also alcohol takes its toll in traffic.
Alcohol plays an important role in aggression. 40% of all incidents involving aggression occur while under the influence of alcohol. The police spend 22% of their time on cases involving alcohol. Violence on the streets and domestic violence while under the influence of alcohol happen often.
Also at work, alcohol has big consequences. 13% of all employees on sick leave have alcohol problems. Employees with alcohol problems produce at least 10% less work than their colleagues.
Alcohol can make people irresponsible; for example, getting pregnant in circumstances where they are not able to care for a child.
Cannabis – Contributors weigh in with the following:
* The definitive study of the long-term health effects of marijuana to date was done by Kaiser Permanente. They surveyed the health records of 65,000 patients over a long period of time. They found no significant differences in the health records of pot smokers versus people who did not smoke pot. See http://www.druglibrary.org/crl/aging/sidney-01.html

I hate when people assume, dont answer unless you have researched and or clicked on the link…

Jill answers:
Nope.
Simple answer – alcohol and cigarettes are legal because the government gain a lot of money through tax
They don’t care about the nation’s health – al they care about is getting money from the people

Sharon asks…
I had a hangover, and took 2 Tylenols, will my liver be ok?
I went to my friends house, had a few drinks, got a little drunk, and woke up the next morning around 10am, fell asleep around 3am, I dinosaur’ed in his back yard that morning and realized I had a hangover. I started feeling a bit better after I ate a bit and drank a little bit of soda. I got home around 12:30pm and realized that I had somewhat of a headace, but I was generally feeling a little drousy, becuase of the lack of sleep and bad stomach ache. So around 2:pm I popped 2 tylenols. I was wondering if I still had the hangover, or if i was generally still feeling like crap, so I went to trusty google and found my self a wiki on hangover cures, tips, and warnings…
And one of the warnings was not to drink tylenol so I kinda freaked out. I got kinda mad that I didnt read that before i popped the tylenols. So Im worried sick, I called a freind to see if she knew about something that I could do, she said to drink milk, it should cancel out the tylenol somewhat and make it less of a hassle on the liver.
I can honestly say I feel alot better than i did 2 hours ago when I drank those tylenols like a jackass.
But I’m still worried sick.
Its really the 1st time that I drank, and the 1st time i got a hangover.
And the 1st and last time that I take a tylenol after drinking alcohol.

Jill answers:
Honestly, you will be fine….I think it will only cause damage if you repetitively take it…my friend takes Tylenol before she even starts to drink to avoid getting a hangover at all..I don’t know If i really agree with that…but you’ll be FINE. Oh and just for the future, I think there is a new medicine now that you can take for hangovers…..at the pharmacy….by other over the counter drugs.
Hope i helped….its really nothing to worry about!

Paul asks…
I have high lever enzymes ALT AST. Should i be worried?
I’m a 22 year old male. I started taking methadone on 4/3/11 a little over a month 05/18/11 they took some blood for testing and when the results got back they were pretty concerned about my AST ALT levels. They told me they were both about 3-5 times higher than normal and asked if i was an alcoholic. At the time i have been sober from alcohol for about 4-5 months but i used to get really intoxicated about 3-4 times a month for pretty much the whole year of 20010. Anyways, I asked what do high enzyme levels mean? and they didn’t tell me anything but it could mean that i have liver damage but not to worry about it. This test was taken at the methadone clinic and they told me to follow up on it with my primary doctor.
It has been five months from the test and i still haven’t seen a doctor because I’m absolutely terrified that its going to be something bad. I’m really frightened! I was looking on the internet and all i can see when searching about it is liver damage, disease and LIVER CANCER! AHHH So it is possible that i have liver cancer?
I weigh 180 and I’m 5’9 22 year old male. I take methadone. These are my levels.
AST (SGOT) H 252 IU/L (< 41)
ALT (SGPT) H 304 IU/L (< 46)
Those are my levels… I don't know what they mean. PLEASE do not write answers saying go see a doctor he will tell you. The reason i write this question is because i want to know what it means.
Does this mean they are damaged disease or cancer? Is this how they first test for liver cancer?
What would the doctor do if he tests me again and my levels are still high or increasing?
ALSO, I have read that methadone is a liver enzyme inhibitor. I do not know what that means but is it possible that methadone is the cause of the high enzymes? I have been blood tested a few times in my life and never have they said anything about high enzymes.
I read this but dont know what it means on wiki
It is metabolized by the enzymes CYP3A4, CYP2B6 and CYP2D6, with great variability between individuals
Methadone has a slow metabolism and very high fat solubility, making it longer lasting than morphine-based drugs. Methadone has a typical elimination half-life of 15 to 60 hours with a mean of around 22. However, metabolism rates vary greatly between individuals, up to a factor of 100,[46][47] ranging from as few as 4 hours to as many as 130 hours,[48] or even 190 hours.[49] This variability is apparently due to genetic variability in the production of the associated enzymes CYP3A4, CYP2B6 and CYP2D6. Many substances can also induce, inhibit or compete with these enzymes further affecting (sometimes dangerously) methadone half-life.
