Your Questions About Bowel Movements And Pregnancy

Sandy asks…

I know TMI but just curious about bowel movements & pregnancy?

Sorry for this rather TMI question but just been curious, I know that constipation is quite common in pregnancy but has anyone else experienced some instability? I’m 9 weeks pregnant, going into my 10th week soon and I’ve noticed that one day I’ll be constipated and the next, it’s like the completely opposite of that (the horrid D-word!!) and I haven’t really changed my diet in terms of drinking more or less of water or eating more or less of anything that contains lots of fibre, but for some reason, it’s just been so unstable and I guess I’m just wondering if it’s just me or is this also normal in pregnancy??? (Actually today I’ve been experiencing some stomach cramping that’s related to my bowel and it just came out of nowhere….nothing too bad but enough to cause discomfort!!!)

Jill answers:

So, so normal. I started constipated, then around 10-11 weeks I got the instability now I’m going twice a day like clockwork (normally I’m a once a day kind of gal). Progesterone causes many changes that can affect the GI tract in weird ways.

Mandy asks…

has anyone had more then 2 bowel movements durring pregnancy?

im 15 weeks and 5 days pregnant and i have had more then 2 bowel movements today. is not watery or runny. its normal. but its like after i eat i have to go.. :(

Jill answers:

I was like that around 20-26 weeks. I’d have to go ALL THE TIME and it was kind of annoying because when I felt like I needed to go, I needed to go right then so it sucked if I was doing something. XD
But now, at 34 weeks, I’m super constipated and I miss pooping. :p

James asks…

Question about bowel movements and pregnancy? tmi sorry?

did anyone ever experience light brown, very soft, feces sometimes diarrhea like and frequent bowel movements during early pregnancy? I’ve had this and a rumbling stomach for about 1 1/2 weeks now, and sometimes I feel slightly sick. Haven’t tested yet.

Jill answers:

I definitely had that as one of my early pregnancy symptoms along with uterine cramping and gas…none of which I realized were pregnancy symptoms. I actually thought I had some sort of colon disorder…oopsie. But a lot of other things can do weird things to your digestion so you won’t know until you test.

Helen asks…

Question about bowel movements in late pregnancy?

I am 27 weeks and 2 days pregnant and for the past 3 days I have had really soft and diarrhea like bowel movements and I thought it was the stomach bug, but I have had an appetite and haven’t been sick to my stomach. My stomach will ache and hurt when I have to use the bathroom, but that’s it. Any advice would be great.

Jill answers:

I think you should consult your doctor about this.

Richard asks…

bowel movements in pregnancy?

okay i am having bowel movements during my pregnancy way more than i had before i was pregnant and like people say drink orange juice and it makes it worse i take my vitamins and everything should i be worried

Jill answers:

No its normal for some body functions to change in pregnancy
more bowl movements are a sign that you are getting the vitamins and minerals and water your body needs so it doesn’t have to hold on to the poop as long to suck all that stuff out of the food you ate so your body expels the waist more quickly
look at the bowel movements as a good thing just make sure you keep eating healthy and drink plenty of water other wise you could get constipated
congratulations on the baby
