Son survived a septic infection from Clostridium difficile. He is in ICU with his heart rate still high?
Its been 11 days and he is making progress but his heart ratre, while lower than yesterday, remains high and the doctors do not know why. It was 150 yesterday and been there for about a week. That was down from an initial heart rate of 180 bpm. It is 140 today. Anyone have any experience with this rather nasty germ?
Oh and he is 14 years old.
They think this was a fairly new virulent strain because he had not been on antibiotics in recently. He would be the first in the state to have this.
Oh, he had 2 ECGs of his heart which were normal and his heart enzymes, the ones that detect damage were all negative.

Our 4 yr old was hospitalized for 5 days this past february with c diff and she was terribly sick.
She already has a hole in her heart which wasn’t affected by this but she was so weak all she could do was sleep & she had been on antibiotics for another condition previous to this. It came on suddenly.
Since it didn’t affect her heart that I’m aware of I can’t comment on that but I know first hand how bad it is and I wish you a speedy recovery for your son.

Our patients are barrier nursed in their own cubicle and universal precautions used. Hand hygiene is the biggy that is under estimated. Your organisation should have clear guidelines and policies for you to follow if not you need to ask WHY

How long am I contagious for ? ?
I have been confirmed to have picked up a clostridium difficile infection and symptoms began 13 days ago . I have been on metronidazole for 5 days now and symptoms have all but disappeared minus soft bowel motions (but not diarrhea). How long am i contagious for ?

I wasn’t familiar with this condition before, but it appears to be a condition usually picked up due to the treatment of another medical condition. If that is the case, I hope everything is ok 
That being said, it appears to be quite nasty. It is a spore-forming bacteria, and is most commonly transmitted through the fecal-oral route. Based on my research, the spores of Clostridium difficile are particularly harmful to people using broad-spectrum antibiotics.
Why? Your digestive tract has a whole host of non-harmful bacteria living inside. If these harmless bacteria are compromised, it is possible for ingested Clostridium difficile spores to overtake the harmless bacteria, resulting in your present condition : /
Answer: You are most contagious to anyone with a compromised immune system, particularly anyone using antibiotics. The spores are heat-resistant, (think of a spore as a really resilient seed) and will persist outside the human body for a bit. This means there are probably already spores around you, with the highest likelihood being the restroom. You are technically contagious as long as those spores are present, but I would definitely consider you contagious until your bowel movements return to normal. People with normal immune systems should be ok around you, but I would consult your doctor to be sure.
A tip I learned during my hospital clinicals was to sing happy birthday while washing my hands, or about 15 seconds (a lot longer than it sounds haha.) As long as you’ve practiced good hygiene up to now, and continue to practice good hygiene, anyone with a normal immune system should be fine around you. Again, don’t be afraid to shoot your doctor a quick phone call to be safe.
One last tip if you want to sterilize your bathroom/other areas: a 10% bleach – water solution in a spray bottle will kill anything. I used to use it on the ambulance daily.

nearly year ago i suffered from severe Clostridium difficile infection it was treated by my family general physician with in ten days it was cured. my appetite fell dangerously my weight fell to 99 pounds with in 1 month,so my physician prescribed some x rays and endoscopy every thing is normal so he referred me to a PSYCHIATRIST.he diagnosed me with anorexia bulimia (i want to eat like hell but i felt full after eating very less but that psychiatrist did not listened to me)i was drugged with Prozac for one month(now i lost another 5 pounds). i got totally freaked out i went straight to school library took some human anatomy books and human biochemistry books and red them for two months (i am intelligent).i found out that i am deficient of amino acids and my stomach is unable to absorb those nutrients (due damage from infection).i stopped taking psychiatric drugs .me and my mom explained this to my physician he prescribed me many nutrients supplements now i am recovering and gained 10 pounds.i said that my health is improving and i stopped taking those psychotic drugs to psychiatrist , he suddenly started freaking out and started saying i will die if i dont take those psychotic drugs (wtf they are not life saving drugs) ,he tried to convince my mom that i have to be admitted in mental hospital (according to him doing research is a psychiatric problem wtf )
why hell is wrong with this psychiatrist and his assistant psychiatric doctor ?
why he tried to push me into mental hospital?(even though my health started improving after discontinuing psychotic drugs and with the help of nutrient supplements )

No, this is the way doctors are now teaching other doctors to handle anyone who researches their own illnesses on the internet,library, or anywhere else…………they are calling them ‘crazy;with some diagnosis they have decided on . I wonder what diagnosis they are saying this is…..it will show up a lot now , not just you, since millions of people are doing a lot of appropriate questioning.
He is crazy, doesnt understand why you dont just bend over to his ‘diagnosis’ and now will call you some diagnosis…….of some kind.
Just leave and dont go back……….
You dont have to see them at all. You can file a complaint or get an attorney if you want to , but they have huge law firms that defend everything they do.
You dont need a psychiatrist. If you truly do have an eating disorder, it will come up again, and then you can go to a treatment center to get it treated properly.
I applaud you and your mom for finding the reason, and commend your doctor for supporting you all.

It depends on what levels your weight was fluctuating at. If you were dangerously underweight.. Then this psychiatrist is greedy.
