Your Questions About Colonic Cleanse

Richard asks…

Does a colonic cleanse really work and what benefits have you experienced? Please recommend products :) ?

Jill answers:

Hi. I thought about doing this and being a nurse changed my mind since who knows what is really in one of those that is advertised. Are you having colon problems? If you are then see your Dr and let them check you out. I let mine go and am paying the price now and am having test after test done on my colon. They found a problem but nothing that medications could not help so ask your Dr before trying anything sold as an advertisment. There is a reason it is an advertisment. Check with your Dr just to be safe. If you want to cleanse your colon out you can do what they have you do before a colonoscopy and that is miralax 17oz crystals diluted in gatorade or sprite. Take half of 17oz and mix with 32oz gatorade in morning then in the evening mix the rest the same way and drink up. You also take 4 Dulcolax tabs. Make sure to do this only when you do not have to be anywhere the next day. Or that day as you will be going to the bathroom quite often. This is the instructions for cleansing out a colon for tests so it is the only one i would recommend and only then if you are constipated most of the time otherwise why do this to yourself. This also depends on your age, symptoms and exactly what you want to accomplish. Are you seeing the ones that say your body has parasites in the colon? Ask your Dr as i did and i am very happy that i did so i was not tempted any longer to buy from an untrusted ad. Good luck and think twice before buying something from an ad.

Sandra asks…

Natural Colonic Cleanse?

My step mother had went to a natural food supply store & they had recommended a combination of two pills that when taken together caused a natural colonic cleanse….I have since lost the name of these two pills. Would anyone know the name of the pills or a combo that would work the same…Thanks for any help!

Jill answers:

Colon cleanses are not for someone who has a healthy bowel, that being said, most of the population doesn’t. Most people are constipated, but will disagree as they have no idea what the word actually means, nor do they understand what the natural elimination process of the bowel actually is.

For someone that simply doesn’t have regular bowel movements OR has some condition such as diverticulitis, which is CAUSED by chronic constipation (as are almost all of the colon issues we hear of today), a simple remedy of something high fibre or containing NATURAL laxative capabilities (cascara, senna, although these are not recommended for long term use, as with ANY laxative, natural or not.) will take care of the cleansing problem. Flax seed (must be ground) is very strengthening to the digestive tract and gives ample fibre to keep things “moving”. Flax MUST be taken with adequate fluid as it is a bulk forming laxative and can exacerbate the situation or your fluid intake is too little. Flax is also very mucilaginous, therefore coating an inflamed or irritated colon, which is helpful as well. Along with all these things, healthy diet is of the utmost importance. Sugar, white flour and caffeine are big culprits in the non-functioning bowel area. Eat well and get your fibre, exercise and fluids.

she said im so full that my colon etc isnt working anymore, its not moving the stuff through. she didnt say i HAD too, but she said she really, really recommends a colonic cleanse, or colon irrigation, whatever, and that itll get rid of everything and make me feel better, its not taken orally.., its the.. other end…
and i need to have 6 sessions of it
its 65 dollars a session..
i trust her cause shes been doing this for 15 years, but im just worried.. i have health anxiety severly so i worry about everything, and my stomach hurts so bad and im going to screw up my colon if i dont fix it soon, so i agreed

just what am i to expect?! i dont know.. im worried : /

“Colonic cleansing” is a money making racket. If you’ve been taking laxitives, stop. They’ll do more harm than good. If you were taking them regularly, taper off. Laxitives are habituating in the sense that once you start using them regularly, your colon won’t work right without them. The doctor/nutritionist makes more money doing “colonic cleanses” than by advising you how to change your diet to avoid constipation, and don’t you ever forget that. Yes, there are doctors who push fad treatments just for the money.

Google “constipating foods” and start learning. Most of us eat far too much meat, dairy products (cheese is especially constipating) and refined flour, and far too few fruits and vegetables. A fiber powder that you mix into water is a good stool softener but mostly because it has soluble fiber. Insoluble fiber won’t help as much if at all but that’s what they usually fortify prepared foods with when they advertise “fiber”. It’s sort of like adding sawdust. You can see the difference if you take two glasses of water and stir sawdust into one and a fiber powder like Metamucil into the other. Let them stand several minutes and compare what happens to them.

If you need to get things moving (as I did after an illness) here’s what my doctor advised: drink a glass of HOT prune juice. It worked.
