Donald asks…

What foods should I avoid as I have diverticulitis?

So many things I eat cause bloatiness and gas…….

Jill answers:

Your main objective is to increase fiber intake without its associated abdominal upset. As we are all different, you will need to experiment with various roughage type foods to determine which works best for you. Avoid spices and beans until you determine this. Broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, kale, asparagus, tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, apples, oranges, grapes, berries, and the like are good bets, to get your system going, with typically minimal upset. Reduce consumption of any thing which you notice causes abdominal upset a few hours after. Reintroduce back into your diet after you have been clear sailing for awhile.
