William asks…

I am having my impacted bottom wisdom teeth removed, i cant take strong pain killers, experiences? advice?

I am scared of the pain afterwards and the effect of the drugs on my Irritable bowel. I am only being given panadeine and valium, as i cant take anything Nurofen like or cant take panadeine forte… How bad is the pain????…. terrified

Jill answers:

I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed at age 28. It did hurt after and I got a bit bruised looking. I think you are in a different country than me because your drug names are unfamiliar (besides the valium). I took percocet for the first two days, which is codiene with acetominophen. After that, I only needed a little ibuprophen (motrin).

You are going to be sore, but able to cope for sure. If you can’t cope, that means you should go back because something is wrong.

Lisa asks…

Really bad sharp stomach pain… so worried, please help!?

It just started last night. I started getting a sharp pain on my left side in between my hip and my belly button. I woke up and felt sharp stabbing pains in my stomach. It’s mainly right behind my belly button but there is like a dull pain that spreads throughout the rest of my stomach. It hurts so bad I can hardly stand up straight. I’m also really nauseous (I threw up bile this morning), really fatigued, and bloated.

I have bowel problems I guess you can say. I take pain medications that cause constipation and I usually only “go” once or twice a week. Sometimes it’ll go a week and a half. I’m really afraid I’ve got an impacted bowel. Should I take a fiber pill right now?

Also I have a Paragard IUD and I’m also scared it could be some kind of infection or something. I am due to get my period in a few days but it’s not at ALL like cramps. Could it be a cyst?

The pain is so bad I feel like I need to go to the hospital, but I just wanna know what it could possibly be. I can’t miss time from work. =/

Please guys, any advice would help me out a lot.

Jill answers:

You really need to go to the dr or the e.r. Only they can diagnose you with certainty it could be a number of things.

Laura asks…

What will they do at an emergency room for someone with abdominal pain?

My husband has been having trouble pooping and has been having bad stomach pains. He has been to two low income doctors, one did nothing and the other one prescribed a Stool Softener. He took the stool softener but had to stop taking it because he found it harder to actually poop and after three weeks he stopped going for two days so he stopped taking the SS and he finally went. But he is still in pain and he still can’t poop correctly. He also bloats a lot wich I am am not sure if it is poop or gas but his stomach becomes very hard.

He would have went already to an ER but his mother keeps telling him to not go to an ER because they will just send him home with some pain pills and schedule testing later or refer him to a doctor since this has been going on for about a year, she says that it isn’t an emergency so they won’t treat it like one. But what if he has an impacted bowel would they check for that. I have always been told to only go to an ER when it is serious. But when he has seen two doctors already what do you do get a third opinion from another doctor that isn’t going to do anything either.

Jill answers:

A good ER will definitely do a physical exam and probably take an Xray or ultrasound to check for obstructions Sorry he’s not doing well Hope he’s better soon.

Donald asks…
