Your Questions About Methadone Drug Addiction

Lizzie asks…
methadone and drug addiction?
methadone being the least effective way of dealing with addicts using heroin as it is just a bonus to top there addiction up (proven as there is only a 5% success rate at present to cure these leaches on society and doesn’t reduce there crime rates i’e theft and preying on the vulnerable which is causing fear in the most vulnerable members of society and has been proven that more than 80% of crime is attributed to these people the tax payer invests huge amounts of money wouldn’t it be sensible if these individuals where treated more harshly i’e cut the huge amounts of benefits they recieve which only go to fund there habits and install a more harsher regime that would take them out there environment that is designed at present to encourage there continuing drug taking.
anyone thinking that methadone is a substitute for heroin is deluding themselves as most addicts use see it as a top for diazepam and heroin all it does it curb the chaotic lifestyle heroin causes

Jill answers:
Of course it is !
Its taxable , nice little income for the legal drug barons

Daniel asks…
Has anyone out there gone through or know anyone who has gone through methadone treatment for drug addiction?
My friend’s son is addicted to heroin. They are desperate to get help for him and unfortunately he has no insurance. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Jill answers:
I have a friend who’s husband is addicted to opiates and he started going to a methadone clinic. That was 4 years ago and he is still going!! I’ve seen her loose her car, home and now she is in jeopardy of loosing her children because of her husband’s addiction to now Methadone. I just don’t see how using one drug to get someone off of another drug can be useful. I’ve read alot of the times where people using Methadone overdoses because they mix the methadone with other narcotics such as anti-depressants, anti-anxiety drugs. Have her do some more in depth research on the pros and cons of Methadone. I’ve read it can be useful if administered properly. I’ve also heard the dangers when people are buying and selling methadone on the street, this is where is can be lethal.

Michael asks…
Methadone.ANY APPROPRIATE INFO NEEDED.For how long is Methadone used to detox from opiate drug addiction?
Hi, i have just started on a methadone programme for Opiate drug addiction. I know very little about methadone, i want to know what dose people take and for what? also how long it is used for? i’ve heard a lot of people say they’ve been on it for years and i find that quite disheartening, it just seems like i am swapping one drug addiction for another! I also want to know of it’s success rate for leaving patients clean of all drugs long term? If anyone has ANY helpful information about Methadone treatment i would really appreciate it. I don’t know anyone personally who has been through a methadone program so it would be great to hear anything from people who have had firsthand experience with Methadone. I feel about out of my depth here and need some advise! Thanks in advance.

Jill answers:
The time methadone is used to detoxify an addict from an opiate addiction depends on two things, the particular opiate that one is addicted to, and the severity of the addiction meaning how often they use, and how much they use. Also methadone treatments are not the only method to treat, and detoxify from opiate addiction. See here:

I hope this was of help to you.

Mandy asks…
Other than drug addiction, what is methadone used for?

Jill answers:
WOW I have never seen such answers. Methadone is used for opiate addiction (but you knew that) & for the treatment of chronic pain. See how easy that was? Sharon asks…
Do you in the US give out methadone to drug addicts?
We in the UK encourage drug addiction by giving out free drugs [even in the prisons] this is paid for out of our taxes.
Strange really when the low paid people are going cold and hungry and living below the poverty line.

Jill answers:
They are scum. I had a conversation the other day abut this and i would not give junkies anything for free….when they go to prison they should be made to rattle it out…not get free meth… Put them on suicide watch for a week and sweat it out of them….no free drugs at all in prison with exception to those who are mentally ill and need drugs to stay level….not for junkies though. What is the point in locking them up if we keep their addiction that caused them to break the law in the first place going? We have a messed up justice system. I work bloody hard for my money and the government gives me nothing for free. NOTHING! Why should these junkies get meth handed to them and free flats when they get out, dole money? Pisses me off mate

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
