Whats Wrong With My Newborns Bowel Movements?
I’m currently waiting for a call from the health visitor to ask her the same thing but until then I was wondering if you could help?
I was changing my 4 week old daughters nappy last night and in it was a pooh – but just one lump and rock solid. It makes me think she must have had difficulty passing this.
We’re lucky to get a normal bowel movement out of her once every two days!
The texture is getting less and less “sloppy” and more and more sticky… but this one last night was like a adult pooh except the colour…quite big and rock hard!
What could be wrong with her?
I don’t mean it was the size of a adult pooh lol, it was round and looked way to big for her to be passing…

I had the same thing happen to my boy, it was constipation, and he had to change formulas.
Shut up Obber has no right in saying what they have, nor is it even their business as to how you feed your baby.
Really, it doesn’t affect her personally, so why the need to put you down?
Oh yes. I couldn’t breastfeed. Some people can’t, ask an OB.
I can however do about one feed of breast milk a day, the rest is formula.
Oh I’m such a bad parent in the eyes of many for that!

Questions about Newborn bowel movements and Karo syrup?
How many days is normal for a week old to not pass a bowel movement?? my newborn was pooping good, he hasnt pooped all day yesterday and today, i just bought some light karo syrup im going to mix less then a teaspoon. Does this work? he doesnt seem in pain.

It is normal for an infant to go days without pooping… Especially if you are breast feeding. The karo syrup trick is with Dark Karo, it does not work well if at all with light, and it is for constipation. I was told with my two older kids not to use it until they were at least 2months old. They were formula fed though so they were constipated bad. My third son is Breast fed and goes 4-5 days at times without pooping. My son will get really gassy as well, and that is where the pain is coming from.. For my son at least. It you do try the Karo trick if it is going to work (with the Dark Karo) then it will happen within about 15 minutes, lol, so be ready. But, chances are your son is fine. If he were constipated he would be grunting and trying to have a bowel movement without anything coming out. My sons faces used to turn super red and they would get that ‘trying to poop’ face and they would struggle for hours with no poop. So, if your son seems fine, he probably is. Give him a couple days.

Edit: the brown sugar thing might help if you don’t have Dark Karo syrup… They are about the same thing only the syrup is liquid form. If you leave Karo open, it will turn into pretty much brown sugar. So, I would think there wouldn’t be much of a difference.
LOL… My ped told me the same thing ‘seven days’ I just usually don’t post that because I get thumbs down for it, lol….

Yes, it’s normal.
Babies can be extremely irregular. Sometimes they’ll go multiple times a day, sometimes they won’t go for a few days.
Is she passing gas? Does she appear to be uncomfortable (drawing her knees to her belly and fussing?) If she’s passing gas, and not acting uncomfortable, then don’t worry – she’ll go when she’s ready.
If you’re concerned, of course, it’s perfectly okay to trust your instincts and call the doctor’s office – always better to be safe than sorry. But know that it’s more than normal!!

its starting to worry me. am i just a paranoid new mom or is this normal?

Yes , if you are giving him formula with iron ,breast milk no it will be runny like yellow cottage cheese ,sorry about being graphic.when you have kids you will be lookin at poop all the time for any kind of changes in color or texture ,due to viruses ,colds , things they have eaten that give them tummy trouble ,but if your baby seems fussy or uncomfortable ,and becomes more than a couple of days without a b.m.,or with fever go to a doc good luck with your little one.

How many bowel movements should a one week old breastfed baby be having per day. My son is having 8-10, if not more, but it is usually very little in the diaper and is very runny, which I have read is normal. It seems like every time I feed him, he has a bm. What has been your experience?

Very normal, my 12 week old still poops about every other time she pees.
