Sandra asks…

How would intestines get tangled in a five month old baby?

Jill answers:

Google it.

William asks…

can chewing gum get tangled up in ur intestine?

i’ve swallowed many chewing gum but nothing ever happens to me.

Jill answers:

NO!!!!!!!!!! Gum just digests or gets passed along like everything else. It won’t do anything bad to you. Do not beleive what other people say they have no idea. Ask a Doctor, they will tell you the same thing I just did!

Chris asks…

What are dimensions of the small intestine?

Hi, I really need some facts about the small intestine like: What are dimensions of the small intestine? How does the small intestine prevent itself from becoming one big tangled mess?

It would be great if someone could help!

Jill answers:

Firstly there are 3 parts of the small intestine, the duodenum, the jejenum and the ileum

The duodenum:-
Two layers of muscle in the duodenum contract and relax and so help foo moce along the tube duing digestiong, like perastalsis. Inside the muscle layers is a submucisa containing lots of glands caled brunners glands whitch help seecrete protective mucus witch prevents the duodenum digesting itself from the stomachs acids

The jujenum :-
The jejunum has thincker walls then the ileum and im not sure what use it is besides aborbs the nutrients.

The ileum: – The ileum is the finall part of the small intestine witch mostly absorbs the nutrients from food into the blood into cells. This happens from a lining of villi (or villius for singular i think) this is how we get energy (this is resiration, to get energy the formula is C6H12O6 + 602 –> 6CO2 + 6H20)
After that it goes through the caecum into the colon and ect.

And the instestine really is a tangled mess but works well, it is held by mentrary witch is a substance that can let the intestine move a little

David asks…

Will I die or suffer any sort of pain or internal damage if I swallow bubble/chewing gum?

I know the story your parents tell you when you eat gum, ‘Swallow it and it will tangle itself inside your intestines and you’ll die’, but will anything happen if I do swallow gum?

Jill answers:

Everything in bubblegum is non-toxic. What can’t be digested will just be passed out of the body. Gum does NOT stay in your stomach for 7 years, that’s a myth.

Joseph asks…

Is tinsel dangerous for a dog?

I know it can’t be great but as I was about to put tinsel on my tree, someone told me that it is extremely dangerous for a dog to eat tinsel. They said that it would not come out the other end, once the dog eats it, and it will tangle up their intestines. Is this true?

Jill answers:

Yes, it is possible for the tinsel to become entwined in the dogs intestines, requiring surgery to remove it.

It’s just as likely that the dog will pass the tinsel, but it’s simply not worth the risk – and anyway if your dog does pass the tinsel they usually have trouble passing it all the way. It’ll dangle, and you’ll have to pull. I know from experience. You don’t want to grab poopy tinsel, believe me.
