My sis just called to say her babby has a stomach virus. They are traveling here for the holidays and will be staying with us. The last thing I need is for everyone to get sick, especially me. How can I keep us healthy? The only thing I can think of is not to share drinks/food and make sure people don’t put things in their mouths….
What else can I do? She traveled 8 hours to be here, so it’s not an option for us not to be together.

Most ‘stomach viruses’ are actually mild food poisoning and are not contageous.
Regarldess… Common sense rules here. She should not change baby’s diapers in the kitchen, and she should wash her hands well after changing the baby.

How can you tell if a stomach virus is what you have?
Last night I was feeling fine, then suddenly I just started vomiting hard, and it lasted all night throughout today, diareha too. About 24 hrs, so far. I feel nauseated and have a headache. My stomach is killing me, but do you think I can write it off as a stomach virus or does it sound like somthing else? I don’t have insurance so I can’t go to the doctor. Sorry for being graphic but wanted the best answer

I recently had the stomach virus only a couple days ago and I’m feeling much better now. I’m still worried about what I eat cause I had diarrhea yesterday and my stomach really hurt.. Now today my stomach still gurgles a bit. But it’s fine. Is it okay to eat baked/mashed potatoes during this? Thanks.

I had a stomach virus over the weekend. I vomited a number of times and had diarrhea. Now after everything I eat I get heart burn. They say to eat what you normally eat after wards, but I seem to be getting heard burn or sick still after some foods. How much longer is this going to last?

Your stomach could still be in a very sensitive state right now. That’s why you may be having the continuous heartburn. Also, if that’s the case, easting very heavy things or spicy foods would not allow your stomach a good recovery from your illness.
There may be one other possibility though. There MAY be a possibility of a stomach ulcer. Although stomach ulcers, depending upon position, will cause pain. Gastric Ulcers usually cause pain BEFORE eating where peptic is usually after.
I would say give it another day or so. See how you feel. You may want to try Gaviscon liquid but check with your doctor first.
