Hemmorhoids, Lower Back Pain, Colon Cancer, Pregnancy???

I have had hemorrhoids for about 6-7 months are are TERRIBLE! Everytime I use the bathroom I come out in tears! I went to the doctor a few times and all they say is "use the over the counter products" I have used every product possible. I have recently gotten lower back pain also. My g-ma went to the hospital a few months ago JUST for severe backpain and found out it was colon cancer! My mom also was diagnosed a few months ago with PRE cancerous colon cancer polyps. I FINALLY was able to make an appointment with a Gasterointerologist and then found out I was pregnant! I am now about 9 weeks pregnant and the hemorrhoids are getting worse. The Gasterointerologist won't see me until after the baby is born. My OB says "use over the counter products to treat them" and meanwhile I am scared to death because I'm watching my g-ma go through chemo! Any advice? Or ideas on what helps? They are so bad there is also blood in my stool on occassion!

I have had haemorrhoids through this pregnancy. There really isn't much they can do that won't affect the baby unless it becomes an emergency situation, ie serious hemorrhaging. They can't do a colonoscopy, or banding of the haemorrhoids because that would require fasting and going under anaesthesia, which can be dangerous while pregnant. Quite often if they are a problem during pregnancy, they can prolapse during childbirth, and usually they do something about that once the baby is safely out and they can give you anaesthetic. I have been told to use over the counter stuff too. It sucks, but there aren't many options unfortunately.

You need a proctologist, to zone in on the problem, there are noninvasive surgical ways to deal with hemorrhoids. Talk to your DR. Yell at him, tell him about the blood, tell him about the family history. Make sure he understands you won't be put off.
I don't know where you are, but change doctors at once, there is no excuse for their dismissive behavior, even though the odds are very slight for anything worse than hemorrhoids, you still need to be examined.

Sheesh, it sounds like you aren't having any fun. Hemorrhoids are common in pregnancy, but at 9 weeks along I would be skeptical that you'd have them because of the increasing pressure of your uterus, which is the most common cause. That generally doesn't happen until later in pregnancy. Another common cause is constipation, which is something else that's very prevalent during pregnancy, even in the early weeks. If you've been straining at all, you could have worsened them. I had a really bad constipation problem at 13 weeks and got hemorrhoids out of nowhere – and I've had them ever since. Occasionally they flare up and bleed, but most of the time they're just there. Given your family history, I'd definitely ask to get the problem checked out before it gets any farther. Until you can get in for that, keep the area VERY clean – the last thing you want is an infection or an abscess. My doctor said Preparation H was fine, as are medicated pads like Tucks – you can leave those on for 15 minutes at a time if you want and they will help soothe the burning. Your OB can also prescribe safe suppositories for the pain. Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy, hope you feel better soon.

I think you need to change doctors. In the meantime see this website:

http://www.hemorrhoids-treatment-review.…

I used PrepH with tucks wipes. They will help. It is normal to have blood, you can also try to help by using a stool softener. They will get really bad when you deliver the baby so try and get them as small as you can right now.

Try not to worry that you have any other illness. Just try and relax and enjoy our pregnancey. You never know what tomorrow may bring so live for today.

God Bless and Good Luck!

since you have a family history of colon cancer you are able to have a colonoscopy at a young age to see whats going on with you. i work for a GI practice and i see this all the time. since these guys are specialist with the back end they cant treat you when you are pregnant unless you are having severe rectal bleeding and at that point you should be in the hospital and seen as a inpatient.
there is a spray that you can buy in the first aid section at your local store that will numb the area while you go poop. you should also do warm water soaks and sids baths to help reduce in inflammation of the area. take some stool softeners to make sure you are not straining,, and get a appt with that GI ASAP after the baby is born,, i see people of all ages DX's with cancer its not a fun thing to have or have to tell people they have.

best of luck

I know just how you feel. I've only got one of them, but it's big enough to be two. Anytime I have a hard BM it bleeds. This is a battle wound from my first born. Those over the counter meds don't help at all! According to nurse practitioner who gave me my last PAP before I got pregnant, they can only be surgically removed, meaning that it has to be done after the baby is born. What I recomend is doing everything you can to make things come out easier. I just started eating Activia yogurt and it makes things alot smoother coming out. Also, drinking more water will help your poo stay lubricated. This alone has helped me a ton! I haven't had a bloody stool since I started the activia and it doesn't hurt to go anymore. Sorry if that's all TMI!

Good luck and congrats!

First off, I'm very sorry to hear about your grandmother and I can understand your fear for the health of your mother and yourself…The hemorrhoids will most likely get worse with pregnancy unfortunately, especially after you get further along. During the pregnancy, there's not a whole lot you can do for them…Talk to your OB doc about getting put on a stool softener to make your bowel movements less painful. After the baby is born, see a doctor…sometimes minor surgery can do wonders for shrinking or eliminating them. During the pregnancy, try not to worry too much about your colon. I know it's hard not to worry, but if you aren't having any tummy troubles, or intestinal problems, most likely you are ok, especially if you are younger. Often, it takes polyps years to turn cancerous. It doesn't mean it's impossible though, so you do need to see a doctor as soon as you can, since there's obviously a family history. The hemorrhoids are most likely a result of straining or pushing too hard during a bowel movement. Again, I am very sorry about your grandma. Keep your head up. I wish you and your family the best. Good luck with your pregnancy.

Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  • The other reason moving house in Germany can be much will that obtaining free cardboard boxes is virtually impossible. One cannot go to some local supermarket or newsagent to inquire about discarded boxes. My way through Germany has been recycled – a cardboard box that when held cans of pet food or washing powder is invariably coming with a recycling plant before one has an opportunity to ask. Most German removal firms offer therefore green, recyclable boxes because of sale or for hire – at a high price.
