Ken asks…
Colon Cancer Warning Signs?
So my aunt recently dies of colon cancer, and since not a single other person in our family has had it, the doctor told us to be weary of a new strain. So i have never been constipated or irregular my entire life. Until latley. Over the last months, from january to now, i’ve been constipated about 4 times i think.
No bloating, blood, mucus, ect. Just constipation. Could i just need to change my diet (i don’t eat often), or just take in more fiber, ect ect. 14, male.

Jill answers:
If you’re 14, I wouldn’t be too concerned, but constipation is a symptom. You may just need to change your diet. Http://coloncancer.about.com/od/cancerprevention/a/Cancer_Symptoms.htm

Joseph asks…
I’m 37 male. What are the early signs of prostate and colon cancer? What are the main causes? ?
How and what should I do to prevent both of these illnesses.

Jill answers:
The most common early sign of prostate cancer is suddenly needing to urinate more frequently than normal (this can also be a symptom of urinary tract and other infections) particularly, stopping urination but feeling that you haven’t emptied your bladder.
The commonest early sign of bowel/colon cancer is an alternation between diarrhea and constipation, other common early symptoms include abdominal pain, blood in stools and sudden weight loss.
Neither disease can be completely prevented but it’s thought that an active sex/ejaculation life may reduce concentrations of carcinogens in the prostate gland.
Chances of developing bowel/colon cancer are shown to be reduced by including plenty of fibre (bran, wholegrain bread etc), fruit and vegetables in the diet, the recommended daily intake is 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day.

Maria asks…
What are the signs of colon and pancreatic cancer? 10 points? Also does having a urinary tract infection?
mean the immune system is weak! an untreated one?

Jill answers:
If you are a female having a urinary tract infection is part of you life. You can help reduce the impact by drinking plenty of fluids, probiotic yogurts, and drinking cranberry juice. Below are some site to review regarding colon and pancreatic cancer. If you are concerned with colon or pancreatic cancer due to your urinary tract infection they are not really related. I hope this helps and the below sites give you the information you desire. Good luck

Paul asks…
what are the signs of colon cancer..ie: profuse rectal bleeding?
my friend has profuse rectal bleeding. He uses alcohol to the excess. Could this be colon cancer

Jill answers:
It may or many not be cancer. It may be Hemorrhoids also which has a symptom – Painless bleeding during bowel movements — you might notice small amounts of bright red blood on your toilet tissue or in the toilet bowl. So before coming to any conclusion your friend should visit a doctor and have the situation evaluated. However the signs and symptoms of Colon cencer which he should be aware of are given below_
Many people with colon cancer experience no symptoms in the early stages of the disease. When symptoms appear, they’ll likely vary, depending on the cancer’s size and location in your large intestine.
Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include:
-A change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool for more than a couple of weeks
-Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool
-Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain
-Abdominal pain with a bowel movement
-A feeling that your bowel doesn’t empty completely -
-Weakness or fatigue
-Unexplained weight loss
-Blood in your stool may be a sign of cancer, but it can also indicate
other conditions. Bright red blood you notice on bathroom tissue more commonly comes from hemorrhoids or minor tears (fissures) in your anus, for example. In addition, certain foods, such as beets or red licorice, can turn your stools red. Iron supplements and some anti-diarrheal medications may make stools black. Still, it’s best to have any sign of blood or change in your stools checked promptly by your doctor because it can be a sign of something more serious. -

Mandy asks…
When going on a juice diet or fast, will a person still be able to make a bowel movement every day?
………..it doesn’t seem likely since no solid food is going in,
and I read somewhere that a person should have at least one Bowl movement a day.

Jill answers:
Bowel movements will slow down from the juice diet and fast but they won’t stop all together. Make sure the juice is from concentrate though.
Some people have bowel movements every other day. It is not strange. Good Luck w/ the diet!!

James asks…
What does it mean if Ice cream makes you have a Bowel Movement Fast?
I lately quit smoking, and I’ve been really constipated. They say it’s normal for a few weeks to get over it, but I tried taking laxative pills didnt really work much, I took an enema which helped alot, but I cant do that everyday. And the other day i had some ice cream, and it put me on the toilet big time, But the next day i felt really awful, fatigue, bloating, i had to take some pepto bismol because i felt so bloated. But it did make me go to the bathroom thank god. Is it harmful for me to eat ice cream one or 2 times a week to get me threw this? I Brought a Gallon of prune juice today, Cause I heard that helps, and had a glass this morning but have had no relief. Pls Help iM really freaking out cause i dont have healthcare insurance from being laid off!!!

Jill answers:
Congratulations on freedom from cigarettes! Keep up the good work. I think that the dairy is having an adverse affect on you. Your body is trying to get rid of it. We have had good results with 2 T. Of freshly ground up flax seed in a little water chugged down once or twice a day. This will help with constipation. Drink plenty of water. Also, you are probably low on magnesium. Get a good quality magnesium from your health food store and start taking it, maybe two or three tablets a day in the evening and then add until you have a loose stool and then cut back one. As your body catches up you can decrease. Most people are low on magnesium. This helps your nerves too which will be of help while you are getting used to the smoke-free life.

Mark asks…
Shouldn’t I be having diarrhea on a juice fast? ?
Doing a juice fast for reasons out of your concern and was approved by 3 dif doctors so if you’re commenting this to tell me how it’s not safe or is going to make me gain a lot of weight or whatever, stop wasting your time please. No bashing what I’m doing. Just wondering
I’m on day 8 now and I just had a normal bowel movement and wondering why? I’ve heard that ppl on juice fast has runny stool. I’m not pooping a Lot on this fast just peeing very frequently like I said day 8 and it’s normal??? Just explain all of that please! 10 points ba in a few hours

Jill answers:
Side effects of a juice fast can include diarrhea, fainting, dizziness, low blood pressure, heart arrhythmias, weight loss, hunger, vomiting and many others as in http://au.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGkmmvZK9OTDwApx8L5gt.;_ylc=X1MDMjExNDcwOTAwMwRfcgMyBGFvAzAEZnIDdXNoLWFucwRob3N0cHZpZANsQVQ0czBvR2t5bkZhbkc3VHE5Z3FnRDhpSmtDQms2dlpLOEFDc1NTBG5fZ3BzAzAEbl92cHMDMARvcmlnaW4Dc3JwBHF1ZXJ5AyJqdWljZSBmYXN0IiArICJzaWRlIGVmZmVjdHMiICsgZGlhcnJoZWEEc2FvAzEEdnRlc3RpZAM-?p=%22juice+fast%22+%2B+%22side+effects%22+%2B+diarrhea&fr2=sb-top&fr=ush-ans&rd=r1

Jenny asks…
A little TMI..but I need help! (about bowel movements)?
I am due in 32 days. And I know the prenatal vitamin has been known to change your stool to a blackish color. But lately my stools have been “Grinch Green”. I seriously mean bright green. My stomach makes those weird girdling feelings and stuff like I have diarhea, but my stools are solid. I thought maybe it was from the food and drinks I was taking. (I drink ALOT of orange juice). So I ate really healthy (no fast foods and ate fruits and veggies for snacks) for a few days and drank only water. But my stools are the same? Should I be concerned about this? Should I call my doctor?

Jill answers:
Lots of fruits and VEGGIES will make your poop very very green. I would not worry, unless you are in some type of pain.

George asks…
bowel movements not coming out!!!!!!!!?
i already asked this question but, if i can describe a metaphor of how im feeling, its pretty much like i feel like bowel movements are like cement, and when cement is wet it slides out and if it has no water in it (like my intestine) it gets hard, and doesn’t want to come out, and i know to soften it up i can use a Enema or Suppository (which im not trying to go that way) and i was wondering if i just fasted and not eat anything for about 2-4 days and drink nothing but water and juices and work out my abs, would that possibly work instead of sticking something up my butt?

Jill answers:
You should not fast. What you can do is eat some meals that are packed with alot of fiber. Fiber will help move your feces through your bowels easier. If you want you can take a fiber pill in place. Also, you need to make sure you are drinking enough eater each day to help naturally flush you. If you are still not using the bathroom after a few days you should really seek professional help. Oh yeah, try taking a simply stool softener as well.

Susan asks…
anyone ever have a colon cleanse with water before?
I am having this done tomorrow
has anyone ever had this done before?
Is it safe? does it really help?

Jill answers:
There are easier and safer ways to cleanse that aren’t as invasive to your body. Have you tried an herbal cleanse? They are just as effective and you can do this in the privacy of your home.

Ken asks…
I tried to do a salt water colon cleanse and it didn’t work! Help?
I mixed two teaspoons of uniodized sea salt with one quart of water and it was lukewarm. I couldn’t drink all of it. It kept making me feel like I had to throw up. I got a little more than half way through it in an hour. I had a few saltines before I started, so maybe that was why it didn’t work? Anyway, I waited for two hours and nothing. I was getting really hungry so I ate. Now I feel really sick and I have a pain in my lower left abdomen. What did I do wrong? Should I try the cleanse again tomorrow? What should I do differently? I really want this to work because I haven’t had a bowel movement in three weeks and I usually have them every other week. So what do you think?
I eat pretty healthily. I get about 25-30 grams of fiber a day and I’m a sixteen year old girl. And I’ve been trying, and succeeding, to lose weight recently so I’ve been getting lots of fruits and veggies and water. I don’t really think my diet is the problem.

Jill answers:
Colon cleanses are rubbish, in terms of health science. What you need is a mild laxative to get your bowels moving again, then increase the amount of fiber in your diet, as well as drinking more normal fluids (juices, tea). You should be having bowel movements twice a week at least. Start doing some research on healthy diets and stop wasting your time and energy on garbage science.

Lizzie asks…

So what do you think?

Jill answers:
What? You only poop once every 14 days? You should go twice a day, hun. Something else is wrong here.

Sandra asks…
Have you tried colon cleansing with holy water?
It’s all the rage in the new age Christian circles.

Jill answers:
This is an insulting and ridiculous question

Lisa asks…
What does this mean and how do I do it?
COPIED FROM A WEBSITE:
“The most effective treatment in the large intestine is to cleanse the colon with ozonated water and hydrogen peroxide by colonic irrigation.”

Jill answers:
Dont even try to guess my name:
You’re a friggin moron! Don’t even try to answer a question if you don’t know! NOBODY wants to hear from you if you’re an IDIOT!

Susan asks…
Could I possibly have colon cancer since I get butt cramps a lot?
As the title says, yes I get butt cramps a lot. IS THAT A SIGN OF COLON CANCER? I swear this is not a joke

Jill answers:
Unlikely, unless it is accompanied by a number of other symptoms such as bleeding, weight loss, etc…
More likely it is what is known as Proctalgia Fugax. This type of cramp often occurs in the middle of the night and can last a variable amount of time; generally from a few seconds to 30 minutes. Many sufferers encounter it less than 6 times a year.
There is no known cause for proctalgia fugax, but it is thought to be related to a muscle spasm of the rectum. There is also no known cure.
There are remedies which range from warm baths (if the pain lasts long enough to draw a bath), relaxation techniques, and gentle massage of the anus.

Jenny asks…
Is this a symptom of colon cancer?
I have a relative she is 50 years old, and she only has rectal bleeding when she is constipated. Can this be a sign of colon cancer?

Jill answers:
Yes, rectal bleeding may be hidden and chronic and may show up as an iron deficiency anemia. Check and see if she has these other symptoms
Abdominal Pain
Abdominal Distension– Your belly sticks out more than it did before any weight gain
Unexplained persistent nausea or vomiting
Unexplained weight loss
Change in or character of bowel movements
Small-caliber or ribbon like bowel movements
Sensation of incomplete evacuation after a bowel movement
Rectal Pain, but this rarely ever happens with colon cancer and if there is rectal pain, there is probably a tumor somewhere.
TAKE HER TO A DOCTOR!!!!!

Richard asks…
Is it possible that I might have colon cancer?
I noticed a little hard ball right about 1/4 inches in my rectum area and now I’m worried. I don’t bleed and it doesn’t hurt at all. I was just taking a shower the other day and noticed it. Is this a sign of colon/rectum cancer?

Jill answers:
I do not think it is cancer and you need not worry unnecessriliy. In my opinion it may be Hemorrhoids, which are also called piles, are swollen and inflamed veins in your anus and rectum. They may result from straining during a bowel movement or the increased pressure on these veins during pregnancy, among other causes.
However it required immediate attention and need to be shown to a physician who will tell you exactly after doing the necessary examinations. Please therefore consult a good doctor.
I hope you will be alright just paying some attention immediately. Best of luck. -

Sandy asks…
Do I have sign of colon cancer?
Well I’m only 13 but my family has a history of colon cancer and the last BM I had kind of scared me. Its only happened once so far but after I wiped there was a ton of bright red blood. I was wondering if this was a sign of anything related to colon cancer?

Jill answers:
If you had to strain pretty hard to go, and it hurt coming out, you most likely tore your anal canal a little bit. That would cause the bleeding. If you stay constipated, drink a lot of water, and see if there’s a laxative for kids. Water goes directly to the colon, which helps keep your bowels moving smoothly, but sometimes constipation can be a side effect of another medication. I doubt you have cancer, dear, you are too young.

Joseph asks…
colon cancer, is haveing to crap alot a sign of colon cancer?
is a sign of colon cancer , haveing to crap alot

Jill answers:
Well, any changes in bowel habits (diarrhoea, constipation or both) which lasts more than six weeks can be a symptom of colon cancer.
BUT it’s much more likely to be a symptom of something else. If it’s diarrhoea, and it goes on for any length of time, see your doctor. Just because it’s probably not cancer doesn’t mean it doesn’t need treatment.

Robert asks…
I have heard that a colon cleanse is bad to do because you flush the good bacteria as well as the bad.?
Is this true? I heard this from my friend who is an RN.

Jill answers:
Hi Kelly
That is far from the truth. The goal is to flush the toxins out of the colon and blood. It you dont have regular bowel movements the matter sits in the colon and gets into the blood and that causes illness and disease.
Americans eat so much processed food and with so many man made chemicals its important to maintain a healthy colon. The average American has a bowel movement once every 2 days! Almost everywhere else in the world the normal is 30 minutes after each meal. I cannot stress the importance enough to do colon cleanses regularly.
Best of health to you

Donald asks…
will a colon cleanse affect antibiotics?
I am on long term antibiotics and I understand that they have to build up in the system. I want to do a colon cleanse as I am sure that I have a yeast infection…will this affect the build up of antibiotics coz i don’t really want to flush them out of my system! Help please!

Jill answers:
The primary function of the colon is to absorb water. It is the small intestine that absorbs nutrients so a “colon cleanse” will not affect your course of antibiotics. Ingesting fibre and water is the best way to cleanse your GI tract. If you are on antibiotics it can help to take a probiotic such as Yakult or a good organic yoghurt.

Susan asks…
will using one of those triple colon cleanse hurt you in any way?
i hear that useing a triple colon cleanse can help you feel better in many ways. now i’m talking about a colon cleanse that takes three weeks to do it. it cleans the build-up on the walls of you colon and flushes it out.but i haven’t heard if it could hurt you!

Jill answers:
Unless you have diverticulitis, or some other intestinal or GI problem, you should safely be able to do a colon cleans at home.
You may want to take some time off from work, or your regular routine to properly prepare which I will define:
1. Raw foods diet, mainly vegetables and some fruits, or soups/lightly cooked.
2. Bathroom nearby
3. Castor oil pack or heating pad for tummy
4. Visit to colon hydrotherapist if betonite clay gets stuck or if you are trying to pass extremely impacted matter.
If you are doing an Arise and Shine cleanse, there are plenty of great resources.
Bernard Jensen is a favorite/classic on bowel health and cleansing.
Best to you,

Chris asks…
Can a diabetic do a colon cleanse program?
I’m type 1 diabetic and have been on insulin for a little over a year. I feel like I’m in seiruos need for a colon cleanse (I’m not going to go into details) and I’d like to do something that basically flushes my system out and can help me on my way to eating better and keeping my colon clean and healthy. Are there any colon cleanse programs that are safe for diabetics?

Jill answers:
Whatever you do make sure to ask your Dr. Or the manufacturer of product.
So often most of these can have added sugars for osmotic reasons. Read label very carefully .
And keep very close watch on glucose levels during and after.

James asks…
Passing Blood With Acai Colon Cleanse WTF?
Hello I started a forteen day acai colon cleanse, not to lose weight just to flush out whatever. Anyways, this is day three and today I passed blood. It wasn’t bloody stool it was just blood. I’m not in any kind of pain and I’ve had two “movements” without blood since then. I did tons of research months before starting this cleanse and I am still doing some now but I cant find any reason I should be passing blood. Is this normal with colon cleansing?

Jill answers:
Colon cleanse is a waste of time and money. You should go to the doctor to find out what damage you have done.
