Your Questions About Intestines And Colon

Carol asks…
What is the best way to clean out your intestines/colon?
If you haven’t gone to the bathroom for several days what’s the quickest and best way to cleanse out your system??….
I don’t have cancer or anything, but I need to know about this

Jill answers:
I have found some colon cleanse method that can help you. First is herbal supplement. Herbal supplements, such as psyllium and cascara sagrada, are some of the best supplements that are used to cleanse the colon. These herbal supplements are very effective in flushing out the toxic substances from your body, and they drive away the harmful parasites and bacteria from your intestinal walls. Second is Oxygen-Based Cleansers. These colon cleansing methods have gained immense popularity in recent times. Oxygen-based cleansers melt the excessive fecal matter and toxic substances accumulated to your intestinal walls. This waste is then converted into a liquid or gas form so that it is easily thrown out from your body.

Sharon asks…
If a person had gas trapped in their intestines and/or colon, how long could it stay there for before passing?
How long could gas stay in your intestines or colon for? I have heard that this happens to people.

Jill answers:
In a normally functioning digestive tract; all food/gas should pass in two-three days.
If you have surgery, major trauma, or an intestinal disease, the time length will be affected.
Diet, exercise, medications will also affect digestion and gas.

John asks…
How does Celiac Sprue affect your other organs besides your intestines and colon?
And what books do you recommend for reading to educate myself on the disease itself. All I can find are GF cookbooks. I want to edcuate myself on the disease and how it affect my entire body system. If I eat gluten, how will that affect my other organs, blood system, skin… I have another autoimmune disease, so adding this one on top of it isn’t helping. But my 2 doctors don’t seem concerned & tell me very little. And I feel like crap 24/7. Low energy and weak.
Can anyone advice me on where to go for more education onf the celiac disease so I can help myself? Thanks!

Jill answers:
Because Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder, this means it can effect virtually any system in your body ranging from neurological function to circulation. If you’re looking for a good read, you may want to try Living Gluten Free for Dummies, it’s one of those black and yellow dummies books. I found my copy on www.amazon.com. There are also a ton of great websites out there with infinite wisdom. My favorite websites are www.celiac.com and www.glutenfreeforum.com, but there are many many others. Just be careful of privately owned websites as the information isn’t always up to date. Celiac.com is probably your best resource for information. Glutenfreeforum.com is probably your best resource for support. The people on that message board are wonderful, so ask away. My name on there is Guhlia, so say hi when you stop by.
What other autoimmune disease do you have? For your lack of energy, try taking a vitamin high in B vitamins and iron. Have you been tested for anemia? Many Celiacs are anemic. If you haven’t gone gluten free yet, please do so immediately. Eating gltuen can cause cancer, osteoperosis, osteopenia, peripheral neuropathy, etc…

Steven asks…
Can a lowwer back epidural cause the intestines and colon from working?
no bm function?

Jill answers:
When you receive an epidural for abdominal surgery, the intestines are temporarily anesthetised. One of the advantages of the epidural is that when it wears off, the intestines are restored to their original tone, since the anesthetic is not in contact with them.
It is always difficult to resume BM after surgery. The nurse will ask anxiously about bladder and bowel activity. General anesthesia generally shuts everything down for a period of time.

Mark asks…
What are the pills that clean out your colon/intestines? And does it really work??

Jill answers:
They are nothing but strong laxatives.
Do they “work”?
Well, they make you poop a LOT.
But do they do anything else for you? No.
Your colon does not need help “cleaning” itself. It is self-cleaning and these pills are a scam and a waste of money.
Don’t be foolish.

Carol asks…
Does colon cleansing really work, or is it just another scam?
A co worker is advocating a colon cleansing system, drnatura.com, and says that he no longer takes any meds, and even stopped taking insulin shots. Colon cleansing etc, scam or real?

Jill answers:
It’s going to clean you out, in other words give you diarrhea for a while, if you can handle running back and forward to the bathroom, then go for it.

Lizzie asks…
What is the deal with colon cleansing? Real or scam?
So do we really have 10 or 15 pounds of fecal matter attached to our colons that cause all sort of diseases and headaches, or is it a scam?

Jill answers:
You’re going to get lots of differing opinions here.
My friend was diagnosed (2 Drs) with stage 5 uterine cancer, given 6 mos to live by 1st Dr, 3 mos by 2nd Dr.
She refused radiation and chemo, started colonics.
She had 30 colonics in 45 days, began eating nothing but organic food, drinking a gallon of water a day, and by the end of 2 months was cancer free.
That was 7 yrs ago.
She believes in it.

Chris asks…
Colon cleansing???
Is it true that some people’s eye color tends to go lighter in color when they do colon cleansing?
Is it a scam to promote colon cleansing or does it really happen?
When i say eye color i mean iris pigmentation.Does the iris pigmentation decreases to make eye color seems more lighter?

Jill answers:
OK, I’ll admit that I’ve started colon cleansing and, yes, after my last treatment then the whites of my eyes were noticeably whiter. My mother noticed it and a good friend noticed it, it wasn’t just me noticing. Both asked me what I was doing different, thinking I was taking a new vitamin that was doing it.
My last treatment was my 4th or 5th colonic. I go in for my next one on Thursday and I’ll make it a point to see if there’s any change in my iris but, so far, it was only noticeable on the whites of my eyes.
Also, I might add, that I’ve had a lifelong problem with chronic constipation, just like my Dad, so someone who has never been afflicted with intestinal problems like ours might not benefit from colon cleansing.

Laura asks…
Are the people who answer with stuff like colon cleansing and stuff like that a scam or for real because? read?
Is it for real all the people who answer with colon cleanse, or its in youre pipes, and wuyi tea or what ever lol. are they serious? Because it seems they all have different names but type it the same and they ALL say they lose 17 lbs.??
It confuses me.

Jill answers:
It just seems like spam to me. They post the same responses regardless of the question.
They know there are a lot of people who are obsessed with weight in this section, so they’re hoping to gain some business.

David asks…
Why are people so susceptible to scams like colon cleansing and homeopathy?

Jill answers:
Because people dont want to do any work, most are all lazy and think if they cleanse their colon they will somehow be healthier instead of eating well and exercising. They want a quick fix.

Lisa asks…
Colon Cleanse?
I was wondering if all the hype around colon cleanse are true or a bunch of crap (no pun intended)? Has anyone ever tried this and does it really work in making you feel better and to lose weight? Is it better to go through a doctor and have a professional one done or does over the counter remedies work just as fine? Looking for answers from people with actual experience of this. Thanks!!

Jill answers:
Your intestinal tract does a fine job of cleaning itself, those cleanses as they are called are nothing more than cathartics, or laxative measures and they can really mess you up. The only reason they get away with their promotions is because they are not regulated by the FDA, they use only “natural” ingredients…well guess what, most dangerous illnesses are also caused by “natural” agents. It’s all a load of BS.

Daniel asks…

Jill answers:
My wife has bowel problems. She actually buys an OTC pill called “Colon Cleans” seems to work pretty well for her. I think it may actually be spelled “Colon Cleanz”

Lizzie asks…
COlon cleanse?
how much weight can you lose with a colon cleanse? and which product is good from GNC? any suggestions?

Jill answers:
The amount of weight you can lose with a colon cleanse depends on how much matter is left in your intestines. The average person has 5-20 pounds of matter, so you can lose a decent amount. I recommend Preventive Nutrition® Complete Body Cleansing Program from GNC, available for $39.99.

Donna asks…
How does a colon cleanse help the body and how effective is it?
I am thinking of getting a colon cleanse as I have been experiencing constipation for a while now. What I need to know is how does a colon cleanse help the body and how effective is it? Also, is it worth the money and how long would I have to use it?

Jill answers:
A colon cleanse can help your body rid itself of toxins that have built up in the intestines. If you’re not eating enough fiber, which is cleansing, then your system will get backed up. Things can get clogged/stuck to the lining of your colon. You can then experience constipation, and even if you overcome the constipation, you may still have a residue of stuff stuck on the walls of the colon, causing a toxic buildup. So the colon cleanse is comprised of a combination of ingredients that will help to rid the colon of the toxic buildup. It is very effective. Some people can even lose a few pounds after going on a colon cleanse.
How long you would have to use it really depends upon which program or products you use. If I were you, I’d find a naturopathic doctor who will recommend the proper cleanse for you, as well as advise you what kind of a diet you should be consuming during and after the cleanse.
Good luck!

Ruth asks…
What advantage does a colon cleanse have over a fleets?
I ‘m going to have a colonoscopy soon. I will have to use fleets to clear my colon before the procedure. I was going to do a colon cleanse to improve the view for the procedure. However, the GNC rep I talked to said he didn’t know why people didn’t do a fleets every once in a while instead of a colon cleanse.

Jill answers:
Colon cleansing is typically herbal, whereas fleets is tried and true method

Linda asks…
Colonic?!!!!?
What is a colonic, what do you have one for and what are the results?

Jill answers:
Any cleansing program should begin in the colon, the last portion of the digestive system. The colon’s job is to compact the chime, absorb water, and receive B-vitamins that are produced by healthy intestinal bacteria. One of the most renowned nutrition experts in the world, Dr. Bernard Jensen, D.C., Ph.D., author of many popular health books, states:
“It has become crystal clear that poor bowel management lies at the root of most people’s health problems. In treating over 300,000 patients, it is the bowel that invariably has to be cared for first before any effective healing can take place.”
We could actually compare the function of the colon in our bodies to a sewer system in a large city. Just imagine for a second what would happen if the sewers in our area became clogged by some debris. Undoubtedly, within a short time the whole neighborhood would be filled with filth and an unbearable stench. This is the same process that occurs in our bodies when the elimination system is not functioning properly. When the colon is clean and healthy, we experience an overall well-being. When it is congested with stagnant waste, poisons back up into the system and pollute the inner environment. This is called autointoxication or self-poisoning.
Signs of self-poisoning
In her best-selling book, Internal Cleansing, Dr. Linda Berry, a chiropractor and clinical nutritionist, summarizes the symptoms of self-poisoning.
“If you experience any of the following symptoms, you may be experiencing autointoxication (a process
whereby you are poisoned by substances produced by your own body as a result of inadequate digestion
and elimination), and therefore you might want to consider some type of internal cleansing program:
*Allergy or intolerance to certain foods, Bad breath and foul-smelling gas and stools
*Constipation, diarrhea, sluggish elimination, irregular bowel movements, Frequent congestion, colds, viruses
*Flatulence or gas and frequent intestinal disorders, Frequent headaches for no apparent reason
*General aches and pains that migrate from one place to another, Intolerance to fatty foods
*Low energy; loss of vitality for no apparent reason, Lower back pain
*Lowered resistance to infections, Needing to sleep a long time
*Pain in your liver or gall bladder, Premenstrual syndrome (PMS), breast soreness, vaginal infections
*Skin problems, rashes, boils, pimples, acne
If you have severe symptoms or any serious disorders, seek the attention of a competent health care provider. The above list is only meant to indicate some of the symptoms of autointoxication. Anyone who has been on a Standard American Diet for more than two years would benefit from periodic cleansing, especially if you live in an urban area.
Every cell of our body is affected by self-poisoning. When the toxins accumulate in the nervous system, we feel irritable and depressed. We feel weak if they back up into the heart, bloated if they reach the stomach and our breath is foul if they reach the lungs. If the poisons try to escape through our skin, rashes and blotches develop, or we look pale and our skin appears wrinkly. If the toxins make it to the glands, we feel fatigued, lethargic, our sex drive may cease and we appear to look much older than our actual age.
PS: This subject is far to complicated to explain here in full However, if you check my website in about two to three days I should have posted this article in full , for now I hope this answered your question.

Why do Colonic Centers need a credit card to hold your appointment?
I want to get a colonic, but most of the colonic centers in New York City want a credit card number to hold my appointment. I don’t like giving that personal information out. Is this true for all colonic centers or just the ones who are scams?

Jill answers:
It’s possible that some people chicken out and cancel their appointments and they want to ensure that they get paid for holding an appointment whether you come or don’t. I know that it’s common practice for some fringe medical places like chiropractors to require a 24 hr.-plus notice for cancellations and if you fail to do that, they make you pay. On “Seinfeld”, George ran into that situation with a physical therapist. He was miffed that he had to pay.

Sandra asks…
Is it normal to still have constipation after 2nd colonic?
Is it normal to still have constipation after 2nd colonic? I have IBS. The bloating had gone right after my 2nd colonic irrigation. I’ve only lost one kilo as well all together after the two therapies. What could be the problem?

Jill answers:
Your problem is that you are acting as constipation is the ailment. The constipation is a symptom of your IBS. Laxatives, enemas and yes colonics only treat symptoms. Lifestyle changes are necessary. Introduce fiber, water and yogurt into your diet. Also do 20 to 30 minutes of brisk exercise per day.

Richard asks…
Is it normal to bleed after a colonic hydrotheraphy session?
I just had my first colonic a few hours ago and when I went to the bathroom afterwards, blood came out on it’s own. Is this normal? If not, why is this happening?

Jill answers:
That doesn’t sound right at all. Also, there is no need for these expensive treatments, your body cleanses itself naturally. You may have a perferation of your anus or sigmoid colon, so I’d get it checked immediately.

Sharon asks…
Will a colonic be worth it after taking a laxative?
I took a laxative and now I’m going to go get a colonic irrigation done, is it going to do anything since I already took a laxative and flushed everything out? I don’t want to waist the $65 if it won’t do anything! Will nothing come out when I get the colonic?

Jill answers:
No its not worth it. In any case there is no benefit to colon cleanses, your colon is self cleaning. You do not have impacted faecal matter accumulating in there.
From Wiki (check the references):
“No scientific evidence supports the alleged benefits of colon cleansing.[3] The bowel itself is not dirty and barring drugs, disease or mechanical blockage, cleans itself naturally without assistance.[4] Certain enema preparations have been associated with heart attacks and electrolyte imbalances, and improperly prepared or used equipment can cause infection or damage to the bowel.
The human body naturally removes waste material, and colon cleansing is not necessary except preparatory to a colonoscopy.[4][14] Colon cleansing may disrupt the balance between bacteria and natural chemicals in the bowel, and may interfere with the colon’s ability to shed dead cells.”

Mandy asks…
Are headaches normal during a colon cleanse or total body detox?
I’m currently using Symmetry Botanacleanse. I’m on day two of the 11 day program, and for the last 2 days, I’ve had a mild, but ongoing headache. I haven’t taken any pain killers, as I’m afraid it may cause the Botanacleanse to become ineffective…thanks in advance for your help!!!
Also – I did read the instructions and researched the product, but didn’t see a list of side effects such as headache and low grade fever. Thanks to all of you that are providing helpful answers, but for those of you who like to be smart-a**es, cockiness and sarcasm is not neccessary, and I would appreciate it if you would not comment at all…

Jill answers:
The headache is your body’s way of telling you that you’re not eating, or giving it what it needs. It’s going to persist until you eat something. Staying hydrated will help it some, but not a whole lot.
If you’re going to persist with the fast, your headache is going to stick right with you too.

Helen asks…
Please tell me if you have used a colon cleanse?
What type? From which company? What was the cost? How long did it take? What detox symptoms did you have? How did you feel afterwards? How old are you? How often do you cleanse? Why did you feel you needed to do one. Thank you.

Is it safe to take colon cleanse products with the medication , Seroquel , and Ativan?
I am trying to diet due to weight gain and I would also like to go on a detox? How about the weight loss pill Alli?
OH and I also take the med LITHIUM.

Jill answers:
I have tried every diet under the sun but nothing worked as effectively as acai berry. I know they say that pills do not work, nevertheless they certainly worked for me, and they have been featured on CBS News too. There’s a free trial happening at the moment at http://dequls.mykeepfitpro.info , give it a try, why not?

Joseph asks…
What is the #1 colon cleanse on the market?
Looking for the best of the best detox program that works with little side affects.

Jill answers:
Hey there,
I’d recommend you check out the Colon Clean product – it’s very gentle and contains a pro-biotic supplement to help replace any beneficial bacteria lost during the colon cleansing process. I was really nervous about taking a colon cleanse product at first – I thought I’d be running back and forth to the bathroom all day! But I really didn’t have any trouble with the Colon Clean product – I went a little more often than normal, but nothing gross or uncomfortable.
Anyways, if you have any questions about the product, feel free to shoot me an email – I’d be happy to discuss the plan that worked for me with you.
