Maria asks…

What does my colonoscopy results mean?

I just had a colonoscopy and these were the detail findings:

The mucosa appeared congested, erythematous, friable, and granular in the rectum, sigmoid colon, descending colon, and transverse colon. The cecum and ascending colon were endoscopically unremarkable……………What does this mean?

Jill answers:

The inside of the large intestine is lined with a moist tissue known as mucosa. Essentially, that report specifies that your colon contained excessive amounts of mucosa; this mucosa was red, it was easily crumbled, and it was rough and grainy.

Your large intestine makes the shape of a square – apart from the bottom: it ends half way across and then goes downward. I’m sure you can find a picture. The transverse colon is the top line, the descending colon is on the right side, and the sigmoid colon is a small section along the bottom. The rectum is just above the anus, and stores feces before they are excreted.

The ascending colon is the left side of ‘the square’, and is the first major landmark in the digestive system after the ileum (the last part of the small intestine). The caecum is a little pocket between the ascending colon and the appendix. These were both ordinary.

You could find a picture on Google if you need more clarity.

Helen asks…

In medical terms what does this mean?

Ok I’m in Medical Terminology I and I have a case studie that i need help with… Ok so what is Annular Lesion of distal transverse colon proximal to splenic flexure with consistent carcinoma…Ok I know carcin means cancer

Your Questions About Colonic

Linda asks…

Colonic?!!!!?

What is a colonic, what do you have one for and what are the results?

Jill answers:

Any cleansing program should begin in the colon, the last portion of the digestive system. The colon’s job is to compact the chime, absorb water, and receive B-vitamins that are produced by healthy intestinal bacteria. One of the most renowned nutrition experts in the world, Dr. Bernard Jensen, D.C., Ph.D., author of many popular health books, states:

“It has become crystal clear that poor bowel management lies at the root of most people’s health problems. In treating over 300,000 patients, it is the bowel that invariably has to be cared for first before any effective healing can take place.”

We could actually compare the function of the colon in our bodies to a sewer system in a large city. Just imagine for a second what would happen if the sewers in our area became clogged by some debris. Undoubtedly, within a short time the whole neighborhood would be filled with filth and an unbearable stench. This is the same process that occurs in our bodies when the elimination system is not functioning properly. When the colon is clean and healthy, we experience an overall well-being. When it is congested with stagnant waste, poisons back up into the system and pollute the inner environment. This is called autointoxication or self-poisoning.

Signs of self-poisoning

In her best-selling book, Internal Cleansing, Dr. Linda Berry, a chiropractor and clinical nutritionist, summarizes the symptoms of self-poisoning.

“If you experience any of the following symptoms, you may be experiencing autointoxication (a process
whereby you are poisoned by substances produced by your own body as a result of inadequate digestion
and elimination), and therefore you might want to consider some type of internal cleansing program:

*Allergy or intolerance to certain foods, Bad breath and foul-smelling gas and stools
*Constipation, diarrhea, sluggish elimination, irregular bowel movements, Frequent congestion, colds, viruses
*Flatulence or gas and frequent intestinal disorders, Frequent headaches for no apparent reason
*General aches and pains that migrate from one place to another, Intolerance to fatty foods
*Low energy; loss of vitality for no apparent reason, Lower back pain
*Lowered resistance to infections, Needing to sleep a long time
*Pain in your liver or gall bladder, Premenstrual syndrome (PMS), breast soreness, vaginal infections
*Skin problems, rashes, boils, pimples, acne

If you have severe symptoms or any serious disorders, seek the attention of a competent health care provider. The above list is only meant to indicate some of the symptoms of autointoxication. Anyone who has been on a Standard American Diet for more than two years would benefit from periodic cleansing, especially if you live in an urban area.

Every cell of our body is affected by self-poisoning. When the toxins accumulate in the nervous system, we feel irritable and depressed. We feel weak if they back up into the heart, bloated if they reach the stomach and our breath is foul if they reach the lungs. If the poisons try to escape through our skin, rashes and blotches develop, or we look pale and our skin appears wrinkly. If the toxins make it to the glands, we feel fatigued, lethargic, our sex drive may cease and we appear to look much older than our actual age.

PS: This subject is far to complicated to explain here in full However, if you check my website in about two to three days I should have posted this article in full , for now I hope this answered your question.

Lizzie asks…

Why do Colonic Centers need a credit card to hold your appointment?

I want to get a colonic, but most of the colonic centers in New York City want a credit card number to hold my appointment. I don’t like giving that personal information out. Is this true for all colonic centers or just the ones who are scams?

Jill answers:

It’s possible that some people chicken out and cancel their appointments and they want to ensure that they get paid for holding an appointment whether you come or don’t. I know that it’s common practice for some fringe medical places like chiropractors to require a 24 hr.-plus notice for cancellations and if you fail to do that, they make you pay. On “Seinfeld”, George ran into that situation with a physical therapist. He was miffed that he had to pay.

Sandra asks…

Is it normal to still have constipation after 2nd colonic?

Is it normal to still have constipation after 2nd colonic? I have IBS. The bloating had gone right after my 2nd colonic irrigation. I’ve only lost one kilo as well all together after the two therapies. What could be the problem?

Jill answers:

Your problem is that you are acting as constipation is the ailment. The constipation is a symptom of your IBS. Laxatives, enemas and yes colonics only treat symptoms. Lifestyle changes are necessary. Introduce fiber, water and yogurt into your diet. Also do 20 to 30 minutes of brisk exercise per day.

Richard asks…

Is it normal to bleed after a colonic hydrotheraphy session?

I just had my first colonic a few hours ago and when I went to the bathroom afterwards, blood came out on it’s own. Is this normal? If not, why is this happening?

Jill answers:

That doesn’t sound right at all. Also, there is no need for these expensive treatments, your body cleanses itself naturally. You may have a perferation of your anus or sigmoid colon, so I’d get it checked immediately.

Sharon asks…

Will a colonic be worth it after taking a laxative?

I took a laxative and now I’m going to go get a colonic irrigation done, is it going to do anything since I already took a laxative and flushed everything out? I don’t want to waist the $65 if it won’t do anything! Will nothing come out when I get the colonic?

Jill answers:

No its not worth it. In any case there is no benefit to colon cleanses, your colon is self cleaning. You do not have impacted faecal matter accumulating in there.

From Wiki (check the references):
“No scientific evidence supports the alleged benefits of colon cleansing.[3] The bowel itself is not dirty and barring drugs, disease or mechanical blockage, cleans itself naturally without assistance.[4] Certain enema preparations have been associated with heart attacks and electrolyte imbalances, and improperly prepared or used equipment can cause infection or damage to the bowel.

The human body naturally removes waste material, and colon cleansing is not necessary except preparatory to a colonoscopy.[4][14] Colon cleansing may disrupt the balance between bacteria and natural chemicals in the bowel, and may interfere with the colon’s ability to shed dead cells.”

Risk without benefit.

Your Questions About Over The Counter Detox Cleanse

Donald asks…

what over the counter detox cleansing products can I buy, to pass my drug test?

I live in California so if any of you locals know where I can get a hold of any of this drinks or anything that could help me pass my drug test. I will really appreciate it.

Jill answers:

Test are so good now, there is nothing available to get around them.

Every product is a rip-off.

Mandy asks…

Which Detox/Cleanse should I buy?

I would like to do a cleanse/detox. I want to buy one over the counter. Which one is the best? Have you done it before, did it work? I don’t want to try and hurt myself or try to lose weight from it just want to clean out!! Thanks First time for this.

Jill answers:

None its just some pointless BS fad

If u eat healthy and drink enough water ur body will cleanse itself

Donna asks…

Question about detox and colon cleanse product?

Can I get an over the counter product that will clean out my colon? If so, what and where can I buy it? I am in real need of a detox!

Jill answers:

Dazzling -
Does your colon need cleansing?
Did you get a maintenance notice from the manufacturer?
I hope this is the answer you will listen to.
Detoxing and/or colon cleansing have absolutely no medical benefit and are in fact harmful to the digestive system and internal organs.
There is no build up of bad plaque or sludge in a normal system.
If we had a layer of undigested foods or “toxins” lining our systems, we would all be dying of malnutrition since we would be unable to absorb any nutrients.
Our bodies “detox” 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
We can help detox by eating a healthy diet with minimal added sugar and salt. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, beans, peas, and brown rice keep a system as healthy as it can be. The less processed your food is, the better.
Minimal alcohol, caffeine, soda. Try to drink 100 oz of ice cold water per day.
Read food labels. If you can’t pronounce it, don’t put it in your body. Extreme detoxing diets or supplements actually flush out the beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the digestive system.
To “cleanse” the digestive system, search foods high in soluble fiber.
Soluble fiber “encapsulates” fatty acids and toxins as they pass through the system minimizing absorption of fats and re-absorption of toxins.
15 bean soup is a great hot food right now high in soluble fiber. Fiber foods give the intestines a good workout by giving them something to push against. Oh ya, that action (peristalsis) burns calories as well.
Spend your money in the produce department instead of giving it to someone peddling unproven, unregulated, and even dangerous products.
Good luck.

Linda asks…

can you detox/cleanse your system with Metamucil fiber capsules?

if not a good choice what is a good one (over the counter)

Jill answers:

Those were both advertisements.

Fiber capsules are basically expensive fiber. If you want to detox, try adding fiber in everyday meals, like whole-wheat bread instead of white, or wholte-grain pastas. Just increase your fiber with normal dinner and lunch, and you’ll be saving money and detoxing at the same time.

Good luck!

Paul asks…

What can I do to cleanse my liver?

I’ve done a lot of heavy drinking over the past few years but I want to start fresh now and rejuvenate my body. Is there a cleanse or detox on I can drink that will help improve my liver? I don’t care if its an over the counter product or a concoction I can make. Also, are there any foods or drinks that improve the liver? Please give as much info and suggestions that you can. THANKS

Jill answers:

The best way to “detox” is to remove poor food and beverage choices from your diet, not introduce odd things into it.

Of course you can eat on a “detox”. The detox craze is rubbish, your kidneys, liver and colon remove all the toxins from your body. Health is achieved by avoiding poor food choices like trans fat and excessive simple sugars and alcohol.

Keep hydrated and consume lean meats (unless vegetarian), nuts, vegetables and limited fruits (one or two pieces a day).

Improving your overall diet will improve your liver health. Vitamin C and B help with liver health as well as proper amounts of Fiber.

Exercise is also very important. The liver is a large organ and prone to visceral fat in sedentary (even thin) individuals.

Your Questions About Colorectal Cancer Symptoms

Ruth asks…

Colorectal cancer symptoms ….?

In pregnancy….could a symptom be a constant sharp pain in the rectum…..and rectal bleeding?

Jill answers:

I am not sure but with your daughters age I think it is more likely to be pregnancy related

Susan asks…

Are these symptoms of rectal cancer? Please Help !?

said that she had observed a small pimple like growth inside of her anus while washing. She had constipation problem earlier and she had got operated a year back and her health is normal now. She is a vegetarian now. She gets a little pain when she goes for a poo sometimes.
Can anyone please tell me whether these look like symptoms of colorectal cancer?
My girlfriend said that……

Jill answers:

Hey it sounds like she maybe has hemorroids..she would be best going to her doctor so he/she can have a proper look. But in the mean time you can buy hemorroid suppositories, creams etc in most chemists and supermarkets. It doesn’t sound like cancer though.

David asks…

Should I be worried? Colorectal Cancer ?

Well im only 15, but when I go to the bathroom, you know empty your stool. Well anyways Sometimes I go, I get bleeding(kinnda red) in my stool. I have 3 out of 7 symptoms of Colorectal Cancer, I went to my family doctor about this before, but she never really gave me a full answer, all she told me was to “eat healthier & more Excersise” and I was like “okay, but does that make the bleeding stop?” but then all she said was “just eat healthier and more excerise” I been excersising 30 mins a day, and lots of fruits, But I still bleed in my stool once in awhile, & I KNOW its from my stool because I didnt urine, and just ended my pms. Should I be worried? ALOT of my family members have this, but they seem to be okay? but im still worried, This only started this year, I never had this before, Should I go back to the doctors? but its so uncomfortable when I go, because the last time I went they had to check me -.-

Is there anyone out there that has this too? and can help me out?

Jill answers:

If you are not happy with the information your doctor has given you, go back and ask them what they believe it is.
Did your doctor mention piles (hemorrhoids) or did she find any little cuts around your back passage as these are common reasons for finding blood in the toilet or on the paper when you wipe.
Did your doc advise the fruit etc because you are constipated, because if you are that can cause the little cracks or fissures to occur when trying to go, as everything can be overstretched to the point of splitting.
I am 51 now but when I was your age I had the same thing, in fact I got off the loo at school one day to find the loo full of blood and this was down to being constipated a lot and having hemorrhoids, one of which was bleeding.
I was told I was too young to have them treated and finally had them injected to shrink them when I was 18. This was extremely painful and I wish I had tried harder to eat more fruit and veg.
So depending on what you doctor came up with, go back if you are not happy.

Mandy asks…

could somebody please help me, for i fear i have cancer.( colorectal). ?

i’m 42 years old, and for the last 10 years i’ve been having trouble emptying my bowel, here in the past few years i get some bleeding too.i can never keep clean underwear because i can’t complete my bowel fully. after i use the stool, through the course of the day i can actuall feel some my bowel seeping from my stool to my under shorts. are these symptoms of cancer? i’m very afraid someone please help.

Jill answers:

Any change in your normal elimination pattern should be explained. Since you have symptoms, you will need a Diagnostic colonoscopy. This means most insurance will cover it, even though you are younger than the normal age of 50 for this exam. If they say NO, then appeal on the grounds you have symptoms that need evaluation. And afterwards, imagine the peace of mind you will have to find out that it is likely something simple (fixable) that has been causing your worry and discomfort all this time.

Paul asks…

What is colorectal cancer?

What could predispose a patient to this cancer?! What could be the signs and symptoms?

Jill answers:

The colon and rectum are parts of the body’s digestive system.
Together, the colon and rectum form a long, muscular tube called the large intestine. The colon is the first 6 feet of the large intestine, and the rectum is the last 8 to 10 inches.

The walls of the colon and rectum have several layers of tissues. Colorectal cancer begins in the innermost layer and slowly spreads to the other layers as the disease progresses.
There seems to be an increasing incidence of these cancers in the older age group and in some patients who have a strong family history of the disease. There are now simple tests that can help in early diagnosis and cure of these cancers.(Stool microscopy for occult blood and colonoscopy).

.The exact cause of colorectal cancers is not known. However there are a number of known risk factors that increase the chances of developing the disease.

When symptoms do occur they may include the following:

Blood in the stool, which may be bright red or dark in color.

Change in bowel habits.

Stools that are narrower than usual.

Abdominal discomfort (e.g., pain, bloating, cramping, fullness)

A feeling of incomplete evacuation.

Nausea.

Vomiting.

Diarrhea or constipation.

Unexplained weight loss.

Rectal bleeding.

Constant tiredness.

Your Questions About Colon Detox Pills

Chris asks…

Detox Pills? Can they cause Diabetes?

I herd that those Detox Colon pills can cause diabetes is this true? and i took them for 7 days i ended last saturday night and ever since i been feeling a little bloated and kinda constipated is this normal and i didnt drink a lot of water which is kinda why i think it didnt work.
during my physical last year in the end of august they checked my blood sugar level and it was like 80 out of 120 the nurse asked if i fasted and i said yes she said i have perfect blood sugar level so i dont think its existing diabetes or maybe i just got it un the 10 months since?

Jill answers:

No they can’t CAUSE diabetes, but they can certainly encourage the development of existing potential for diabetes. In other words, diabetes is inherited, if you have the genes then the detox pills (crap by the way) can cause it to show up. They throw your electrolyte balance way out of whack, and as you have found, they are just glorified laxatives that don’t really work unless you drink a gallon of water a day. And if you drank a gallon of water a day, you would not need the pills anyway, you body detoxifies itself quite nicely as long as you drink enough water.

Thomas asks…

How fast will I lose weight on the acai berry detox pills?

I’m 15 years old, 5 foot 2 and 148 pounds. I started the acai berry and colon detox pills last week and today I started walking on the treadmill/across town. I was wondering if anyone has used this pill before and knows how long it will take me to lose 20 pounds. Don’t say to cut down calories ’cause I’ve already done that, I think I take in 1,400 a day. I don’t eat all kinds of snacks, maybe one every two days or so, I eat three meals a day if I can. I drink plenty of water, I just want to know how long. :) Thank you
Thanks, I already have it, I’ve been taking them for about a week

Jill answers:

Acai berry is just a fruit. Same as bananas or apples.

Colon cleansers are just gentle laxatives and fiber. You might lose an additional 5-10 pounds on them, but you will gain it all back as soon as you get off them. And since it’s waterweight, you wont look much better at all.

Colon cleansers are for constipation.

Carol asks…

how come laxative pills dont work on me but suppositories do?

and would suppositories suffice for colon detox instead of these pills bc they arent really making me go to the bathroom like i feel they should. thanks

Jill answers:

If the pills don’t work it’s because the blockage is all at the far end.
The supps of course only deal with the anus/rectum (and maybe the transverse colon in the case of bisacodyl) – if you’re detoxing you really need to tackle both ends of the digestive system.
PS: The colonhealth.net website has some useful tips, as does internapure.com.

Donald asks…

I’m only 13 is colon detox dangerous in the pill form?

My mom said it is but I really want to try it I want to show her it’s not

Jill answers:

Why in the world would a 13 year old be concerned with detoxing their colon??

Newsflash: the colon is not filled with toxins, ask a doctor if you don’t believe me.

John asks…

Does anyone on here know if Diabetics can take the Acai pill and the detox liquid for your colon?

After taking chemo, prednisone and quit smoking I picked a few extra lbs.I would like to try them.
Thanks

Jill answers:

No. I would advise you against taking any neutraceuticals without your endocrinologist’s consent. I am not saying that he or she will tell you no, but what I am saying is that every individual patient is different and has their own personal medical history and other variables which only their specific doctor will know. It could be just fine for one diabetic patient to take such supplements, but not ok at all for another.

Also, I see that you have been on chemotherapy treatments in the recent past. With that thrown into the mix, I would even more strongly advise you to consult with your doctor first.

When you do talk to he or she and if you do get approval, then please make sure to follow the advice I am about to give you. Make sure to get supplements that are USP certified for quality, potency and purity (all three!).

The reason I tell you this, is because not all manufacturers of dietary supplements and nutraceuticals are subject to the most recent changes in FDA regulations. That means that if you get your supplements from a manufacturer (not seller, as just because you may purchase it from a large seller, does not mean what you are purchasing was made by a large manufacturer), then they do not have to follow the new more strict guidelines until possibly 2011. This means that instead of being regulated like an OTC drug, they are regulated just like a food company and nothing more. So the raw materials can be comming from anywhere (and let me just tell you they are mainly comming from China where heavy metal content can be sky high) and they may not even be tested in the least! But if you get products that have USP approval, then you can feel much more confident in the quality, as USP standards are very good and require the companies to follow strict guidelines!
