Your Questions About Intestines And Colon

Carol asks…
What is the best way to clean out your intestines/colon?
If you haven’t gone to the bathroom for several days what’s the quickest and best way to cleanse out your system??….
I don’t have cancer or anything, but I need to know about this

Jill answers:
I have found some colon cleanse method that can help you. First is herbal supplement. Herbal supplements, such as psyllium and cascara sagrada, are some of the best supplements that are used to cleanse the colon. These herbal supplements are very effective in flushing out the toxic substances from your body, and they drive away the harmful parasites and bacteria from your intestinal walls. Second is Oxygen-Based Cleansers. These colon cleansing methods have gained immense popularity in recent times. Oxygen-based cleansers melt the excessive fecal matter and toxic substances accumulated to your intestinal walls. This waste is then converted into a liquid or gas form so that it is easily thrown out from your body.

Sharon asks…
If a person had gas trapped in their intestines and/or colon, how long could it stay there for before passing?
How long could gas stay in your intestines or colon for? I have heard that this happens to people.

Jill answers:
In a normally functioning digestive tract; all food/gas should pass in two-three days.
If you have surgery, major trauma, or an intestinal disease, the time length will be affected.
Diet, exercise, medications will also affect digestion and gas.

John asks…
How does Celiac Sprue affect your other organs besides your intestines and colon?
And what books do you recommend for reading to educate myself on the disease itself. All I can find are GF cookbooks. I want to edcuate myself on the disease and how it affect my entire body system. If I eat gluten, how will that affect my other organs, blood system, skin… I have another autoimmune disease, so adding this one on top of it isn’t helping. But my 2 doctors don’t seem concerned & tell me very little. And I feel like crap 24/7. Low energy and weak.
Can anyone advice me on where to go for more education onf the celiac disease so I can help myself? Thanks!

Jill answers:
Because Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder, this means it can effect virtually any system in your body ranging from neurological function to circulation. If you’re looking for a good read, you may want to try Living Gluten Free for Dummies, it’s one of those black and yellow dummies books. I found my copy on www.amazon.com. There are also a ton of great websites out there with infinite wisdom. My favorite websites are www.celiac.com and www.glutenfreeforum.com, but there are many many others. Just be careful of privately owned websites as the information isn’t always up to date. Celiac.com is probably your best resource for information. Glutenfreeforum.com is probably your best resource for support. The people on that message board are wonderful, so ask away. My name on there is Guhlia, so say hi when you stop by.
What other autoimmune disease do you have? For your lack of energy, try taking a vitamin high in B vitamins and iron. Have you been tested for anemia? Many Celiacs are anemic. If you haven’t gone gluten free yet, please do so immediately. Eating gltuen can cause cancer, osteoperosis, osteopenia, peripheral neuropathy, etc…

Steven asks…
Can a lowwer back epidural cause the intestines and colon from working?
no bm function?

Jill answers:
When you receive an epidural for abdominal surgery, the intestines are temporarily anesthetised. One of the advantages of the epidural is that when it wears off, the intestines are restored to their original tone, since the anesthetic is not in contact with them.
It is always difficult to resume BM after surgery. The nurse will ask anxiously about bladder and bowel activity. General anesthesia generally shuts everything down for a period of time.

Mark asks…
What are the pills that clean out your colon/intestines? And does it really work??

Jill answers:
They are nothing but strong laxatives.
Do they “work”?
Well, they make you poop a LOT.
But do they do anything else for you? No.
Your colon does not need help “cleaning” itself. It is self-cleaning and these pills are a scam and a waste of money.
Don’t be foolish.

Daniel asks…
Is there a way to do a more natural colon cleansing without having to buy these expensive products?
and get the same results?

Jill answers:
Absolutely! Eat more fiber.
No, it doesn’t have to be one of those nasty powders or expensive concoctions… Just eat more fruits, veggies, crackers, chips, cereal, pastas, breads, grains, etc. Sending more fiber through your digestive tract is basically what those expensive products do… They just use specific fibers. ![]()
It’s also a good idea to supplement with probiotics to help you keep regular and replenish anything that may have been pushed out. Good luck!
[edit]: Oh, and Castor Oil is NOT good to take internally unless it’s an emergency. It’s generally recommended for external use only because the BM that it forces is literally your body trying to purge it out because it doesn’t want it in there… That’s not healthy.

Mark asks…
Colon cleansing the natural way? Anyone have any experiences/ advice?
am talking about going to the health food store and buying those natural colon cleaners. When is a good age to do it and how often?

Jill answers:
The biggest effect of colon cleansing is on your wallet. They’re expensive, and they don’t do anything your body doesn’t already do.
If you want a healthy colon, eat a diet high in fiber and drink your recommended amount of water.

Laura asks…
Anyone got suggestions on an all natural colon cleansing and a nice detox.?

Check out the following link. Compare ingredients. Check other sites for ratings as further comparison. Also, check out About.com. Good reading!

Joseph asks…
Natural Colon Cleansing?
apparantly, many people seem to look at colon cleansing as a way to loos weight, wich is not what im looking for. Im looking to cleanse my intestines/colon. does any one know of any cleansing formulas?

Jill answers:
I loved this. Don’t ask me why, but somehow I developed a taste for the stuff. Strange but true. I get a lot of strange looks, but I don’t care. It’s the lemonade diet. It works. You take water, real lemons, grade (a? B? Can’t remember but I’ll get you the link in a minute) maple syrup and cayenne pepper. You do some other stuff too. It sounds awful but it’s not. Here’s the link.
Do your research first, though. This may not be the best option for you. Explore your options and think before you start messing around with any diet. Consult your physician, too, just in case.

George asks…
colon cleansing, natural ways?
what is a natural and healthy way to do a colon cleanse? How often would i have to do it? Thanks in advance.

Jill answers:
A high-fiber diet is the most widely used remedy for colon and stool problems. Drinking plenty of water and exercising regularly also helps a lot.
While many people want to use laxatives, some would rather settle for natural-based medications to avoid digestive irritation and other side effects. You might want to take a look at this colon fix I’ve seen:

acai colon cleanse diet?
does the diet work

Jill answers:
Forget colon cleanse, our bodies and colons are self cleansing. We are not full of toxins.
Colon cleanses give holistic diarrhoea, you lose water weight, upset the delicate balance of enzymes and flora in the digestive tract and can become depleted in essential electrolytes – like sodium, potassium.
“A study of the living human anatomy reveals that the colon is at no time dirty or clogged.”

Lisa asks…
Does the Acai Lipo and Colon Cleanse combo diet work?
Is there any reason not to do it? Is it unhealthy?
Any info please! xxxxxxxxxx

Jill answers:
You never, never need a cleanse to start a diet. You will hear lots of b.s. About this. The body normally and automatically “cleanses” . All you need to do is to drink lots of water, and eat normally. Your liver, kidneys, and colon do not need extra help. They just need lots of clean water to work efficiently. The “15 lbs, of fecal matter” in your colon is nonsense.

Lizzie asks…
Is the colon cleanse and acai berry diet safe for Tweens and can you get it at a store instead of online?
So I need to loose a couple extra lbs bcuz I hav a wedding that I’m in in next month and I wanted to know if this works, if it’s safe for 7th graders, if u can get it at a store and if it will be an inconvenience during school? Thanks

Jill answers:
It may not be safe for you and even if it is, it would be a waste of your parents’ money.
First of all, the scientific research on acai berries has not found them to have any special benefits for weight loss or, for that matter, any other health benefits beyond those that other kinds of berries have. But acai berry supplements are far more expensive than other kinds of berries you buy at the supermarket because of myths that people selling the supplements have spread about how they can help you achieve miraculous weight loss.
Colon cleansing also doesn’t help you lose weight. That’s because the body absorbs most calories before they reach the large intestine. So colon cleansing doesn’t reduce your calorie intake
Also, there have been numerous nasty side effects associated with colon cleansing, including vomiting, dizziness, infections and perforation of the bowel.
Dieting, in general, can also be unsafe for someone your age. While your body is still developing, you especially need to make sure you get enough calories and nutrients. So just try to eat a healthy diet and get regular exerise.

John asks…
Whats up with the colon cleanse and acai diet?
it seems like every question I ask about health
at least one person will answer saying
quote “nothings worked for me untill i tried the acai berry diet. …….. and then they’ll post the website”
unquote
it seems like people who use the acai diet are turning into robots who must manipulate others into using it
is it just me
or acai brainwashing human kind?

Jill answers:
They probably benefit from sending you to the website.
Read this http://www.cureyourbody.com/files/acai-berry-true-lies.pdf
And whatever you do, don’t fall for any free trial.

James asks…
the colon cleanse diet?
does it really work and if it does
1. where do you get all of the materals from2.does our breast shrink when you cleanseur body if so how much
3.after 10 days what is the max amount of wieght tt u can lose
i dont want 2 reduce the size of my breast i want 2 keep them the same

Jill answers:
Colon cleanse diets are controversial. I’m sure I’ve felt much better after apple fasts (apples only, with a drink of apple juice, protein powder and liquid bentonite from the health food store, and psyllium husks from the health food store.). Look around on line and don’t put your faith in expensive products.
If you want to reduce your breast size, reducing your body fat composition to a healthy level will help, but only if you are over-fat to begin with.
Big weight losses in a few days or weeks are water losses and don’t count for anything unless you are a wrestler or something.

Ruth asks…
How many parts are there in the large intestine?

Jill answers:
The large intestine, an organ which is now more commonly referred to by its Greek name, the colon, is the last part of the digestive system: the final stage of the alimentary canal in vertebrate animals. Its function is to absorb the remaining water from indigestible food matter, stores these unusable food matter (wastes) and then eliminates the wastes from the body.
The large intestine starts in the right iliac region of the pelvis, just at or below the right waist. Joined to the bottom end of the small intestine, it consists of the cecum and colon. The large intestine is about 1.5 meters long, which is about one-fifth of the whole length of the intestinal canal.
Parts of the large intestine are:
* Cecum – the first part of the large intestine
* Taeniae coli – three bands of smooth muscle
* Haustra – bulges caused by contraction of taeniae coli
* Epiploic appendages – small fat accumulations on the viscera
1.the first or proximal part of the large intestine, forming a dilated pouch distal to the ileum and proximal to the colon. There is a great deal of variation in the relative size between species. The dog’s cecum is a small, coiled organ. In the horse it is a very large fermentation chamber stretching from the upper right flank to the xiphoid process of the sternum. Birds are different again. They have a double cecum which appears to compensate digestively for the absence of a significant colon.
2. The taeniae coli are three separate longitudinal ribbons of smooth muscle on the outside of the ascending, transverse, descending and sigmoid colons. They are visible, and can be seen just below the serosa or fibrosa.
The bands converge at the vermiform appendix.
These bands correspond to the outer layer of the muscularis externa, in other portions of the digestive tract.
3. The haustra (singular haustrum) of the colon are the small pouches caused by sacculation, which give the colon its segmented appearance. The taenia coli runs the length of the large intestine. Because the taenia coli is shorter than the intestine, the colon becomes sacculated between the taenia, forming the haustra. In between adjacent haustra are semi-lunar folds, known as the plicae semilunares.
Haustral contractions are slow segmenting movements that occur every 30 minutes. One haustrum distends as it fills, which stimulates muscles to contract, pushing the contents to the next haustrum.
4. The epiploic appendices (or epiploic appendages) are small pouches of the peritoneum filled with fat and situated along the colon and upper part of the rectum.
They are chiefly appended to the transverse and sigmoid parts of the colon.-

it has to be home made I used a slinky for the actually large intestine look and colored it red its stretched out can move it thats fine im worried about the rectum part i have no clue what to use I cant use food or anything like that, it can be pretty much any house hold item any ideas?

Jill answers:
Okay. A slinky for the large intestine…be sure u include all the labels…like the ascending colon and stuff..do you have any model magic?or clay? That would be the easiest thing to do,but if you can’t use that then i would use the cardboard from a toilet paper roll.
Unroll the cardboard and then curl it up tighter at the bottom…hope i helped!

William asks…
large intestine rupture?
i have pain to the very lower left part of my stomach pretty much right near the large intestine. if i sit down in a chair or somthing then get up it feels very tight like a stretched muscle when i stand up but after around 5 minutes of standing up the pain calms down a little but does not completely go away and hurts when i cough, urinate or make big movements. i am pretty sure its just a pulled muscle but is there a chance that my large intestin could be ruptured if so what are the dangers of this. i dont feel ill in any other way its just the pain.

Jill answers:
If your intestines had ruptured you wouldn’t be on Y!A answers right now…you would be on the floor convulsing from septic shock. Seek medical attention if it concerns you that much.

Steven asks…
E. coli O157:H7 is part of the normal microbiota in the human large intestine.?

This is a bad player. It’s the one that causes hemorrhagic colitis in the fast food breakouts we hear about.

Betty asks…
Large Intestine simple question.?
Hi, I’m 16… and I remember before my aunt told me that if you dig deep into the left side of your lower part of your body above where your legs end, you can feel like a lump which is your large intestine or where your wastes are stored. So I tried it today, I dug pretty deep into that area and I felt a lump, but I’m scared is it actually your organ or is it something dangerous?

Jill answers:
NO its just muscle, you have to go through the muscle barrier to reach the organs. No worries man.

James asks…
Why are dog and rooster fighting against the law but pouring acid in animals’ eyes is condoned?
Why are testers for cleaning supplies and hair dyes, etc. allowed to pour acid in animals’ eyes – they don’t even use anesthesia to prevent extreme cruelty or pain killers to lessen their suffering. These cats and dogs are forced to eat these products to see how long it takes to pass through their bodies before killing them while it burns away their intestinal tracts and causes violent vomiting and bleeding.
http://www.aavs.org/home.html
http://www.uncaged.co.uk/
You may wonder why this is in politics, but I personally think it is politics that is allowing this to continue. Which companies are supporting your candidate to assure they can continue these cruel procedures?
http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/index.asp
For those of you who find nothing wrong with tortuing these animals, these same tests are performed daily over and over again. They already know what it will do to the animal. They don’t need a live animal to see how these products will destroy the iris or cornea and in how many minutes. They already know the answers to these questions. Many companies – when questioned about why they continue – say that it is just the way they have always done it. They have no problem testing on body parts as opposed to live animals. It is nothing more than politics.
What I really don’t understand is how they can sleep at night after participating in such cruelty – this includes our lawmakers who look away.
ALASPADA, I am against all cruelty to animals – dog, cat, rooster fighting, bull fighting, bull riding, bucking broncho riding, unnecessary animal testing, burning lobsters to death, slaughtering animals before they are dead, the list goes on.
No animal should be made to suffer needlessly.

I buy products that are not tested on animals. I get my hair done at a salon that does not use products that have been tested on animals. I buy makeup and personal care products that have not been tested on animals. I buy cleaning supplies that have not been tested on animals. I buy organic meat and poultry because their practices are more humane and it is not full growth hormones, anitbiotics, insecticides, pesticides and herbicides.
Did you know that growth hormones that are injected into animals have been proven to cause obesity, diabetes and cancer? Did you also know that most countries have banned its use because of this? When will the US care about its people enough to ban it?
Stephanie, if you look at the links that I provided, you will find out that most of these products that pass through as safe cause cancer. This is not the reason for these inhumane tests.

I’m bulimic and there’s blood in my stool?
Hi.
This is a little embarrasing but I need help!
I’ve been constipated for a long time and today i found that my stool was covered in HEAPS of blood. Looked like i had poured a whole bottle of bright red paint into the toilet! lol
Im also bulimic, (please don’t judge! I’m trying to get help already..) and i read online that vomiting can damage the stomach lining and esophogus and lead to bleeding from the stomach into the intestinal tract or something……
Is that dangerous? how dangerous? If that were to be the case, what would the treatment be?

Jill answers:
Was it just a one off?if it keeps happening then see your doctor, just keep an eye on it, it could be internal piles or anything, but it is a worry when it happens I know a few people who have had this I had it once but I’m fine. The treatment would have to be given when the cause is found if any is needed.

Chris asks…
Just have to find this movie ASAP!!!?
This overseas friend of mine has gotten me very interested in movies where somebody pukes; call it some kind of fetish, but I have been looking for all kinds of movies, where people puke in most unusual manners. Right now, I’m looking for one, where some girl pukes up blood, starts bleeding from her eyes, and eventually pukes up her entire intestinal tract. I’m pretty sure that it’s a horror movie.

Jill answers:
…the late great Italian ‘Godfather of Gore’, Mr. Lucio Fulci, directed a film, back in the early ’80′s, called “City of the Living Dead” (…also called “The Gates of Hell”), which has a very gory scene, quite similar to what you describe…
…if you relish unusual-looking puking scenes, check these two out…
…in Peter Jackson’s early horror/comedy, “Bad Taste”, a procession of aliens, in human form, watch as one of them puke into a huge salad bowl, and when he is through filling the bowl, they all take turns, sampling the puke…
…in David Lynch’s early short film, “The Alphabet”, this little girl recites her ABC’s, and when she is finished, she violently pukes up a shower of blood….

Robert asks…
Health check: What’s your poop’s color?
-Golden brown & nearly odorless: Very healthy
-Black: Possibilty of presence of dried blood. Consut a doctor.
-Very Dark Brown: Possibility of drinking too much wine. Too much salt, not enough vegetables.
-Yellow: Infection known as giardia. Unhealthy. Consult a doctor.
-Green: Eaten large amounts of green vegetables. It also means you’re having diarrhea. Consult a doctor.
-Light green: Excessive sugar in diet
-White/pale: After drinking barium sulfate, which is often given to patients getting an X-ray of the digestive tract. Also an indication of problems with gallbladder/liver.
-Red: Intestinal bleeding.
Golden brown and stinks means you have eaten food that may smell bad.
Healthy anyway

Jill answers:
Healthy?

Thomas asks…
How feasible is it to request your baby be circumsised 8 days after birth, will the hospital allow this?
Are there any mom’s out there who circumcised on the 8th day after birth?
When I have another boy I definately want to do it this way especially if I circumcise.
In Genesis 17:12, God specifically directed Abraham to circumcise newborn males on the eighth day. Why the eighth day? In 1935, professor H. Dam proposed the name “vitamin K” for the factor in foods that helped prevent hemorrhaging in baby chicks. We now know vitamin K is responsible for the production (by the liver) of the element known as prothrombin. If vitamin K is deficient, there will be a prothrombin deficiency and hemorrhaging may occur. Oddly, it is only on the fifth through the seventh days of the newborn male’s life that vitamin K (produced by bacteria in the intestinal tract) is present in adequate quantities. Vitamin K, coupled with prothrombin, causes blood coagulation, which is important in any surgical procedure. Holt and McIntosh, in their classic work, Holt Pediatrics, observed that a newborn infant has “peculiar susceptibility to bleeding between the second and fifth days of life…. Hemorrhages at this time, though often inconsequential, are sometimes extensive; they may produce serious damage to internal organs, especially to the brain, and cause death from shock and exsanguination” (1953, pp. 125-126). Obviously, then, if vitamin K is not produced in sufficient quantities until days five through seven, it would be wise to postpone any surgery until some time after that. But why did God specify day eight?
On the eighth day, the amount of prothrombin present actually is elevated above one-hundred percent of normal—and is the only day in the male’s life in which this will be the case under normal conditions. If surgery is to be performed, day eight is the perfect day to do it. Vitamin K and prothrombin levels are at their peak. The chart below, patterned after one published by S.I. McMillen, M.D., in his book, None of These Diseases, portrays this in graphic form.
Dr. McMillen observed:
We should commend the many hundreds of workers who labored at great expense over a number of years to discover that the safest day to perform circumcision is the eighth. Yet, as we congratulate medical science for this recent finding, we can almost hear the leaves of the Bible rustling. They would like to remind us that four thousand years ago, when God initiated circumcision with Abraham….
Abraham did not pick the eighth day after many centuries of trial-and-error experiments. Neither he nor any of his company from the ancient city of Ur in the Chaldees ever had been circumcised. It was a day picked by the Creator of vitamin K (1984, p. 93).
Moses’ information, as recorded in Genesis 17:12, not only was scientifically accurate, but was years ahead of its time. How did Moses have access to such information? The answer, of course, is provided by the apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16—“Every scripture is inspired of God.”
http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/2204

Jill answers:
Christians should not circumcise. It’s part of the old covenant not the new.
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing.
And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole law.
You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justifed by law; you have fallen from grace.
For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.
Galatians 5:1-6″
Jesus himself is reported to have mentioned circumcision only once:
Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all marvel.
“Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
“If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?”
John 7 21-23
What is interesting is that he contrasts circumcision with healing, emphasising that circumcision is an injury, as well as an example of over-zealous law-keeping.
Don”t do it to your son. It’s not medically recommended and reduces sexual function. I resent it deeply,
Geoff
