Your Questions About Colon Cleansing Scam

Carol asks…
Does colon cleansing really work, or is it just another scam?
A co worker is advocating a colon cleansing system, drnatura.com, and says that he no longer takes any meds, and even stopped taking insulin shots. Colon cleansing etc, scam or real?

Jill answers:
It’s going to clean you out, in other words give you diarrhea for a while, if you can handle running back and forward to the bathroom, then go for it.

Lizzie asks…
What is the deal with colon cleansing? Real or scam?
So do we really have 10 or 15 pounds of fecal matter attached to our colons that cause all sort of diseases and headaches, or is it a scam?

Jill answers:
You’re going to get lots of differing opinions here.
My friend was diagnosed (2 Drs) with stage 5 uterine cancer, given 6 mos to live by 1st Dr, 3 mos by 2nd Dr.
She refused radiation and chemo, started colonics.
She had 30 colonics in 45 days, began eating nothing but organic food, drinking a gallon of water a day, and by the end of 2 months was cancer free.
That was 7 yrs ago.
She believes in it.

Chris asks…
Colon cleansing???
Is it true that some people’s eye color tends to go lighter in color when they do colon cleansing?
Is it a scam to promote colon cleansing or does it really happen?
When i say eye color i mean iris pigmentation.Does the iris pigmentation decreases to make eye color seems more lighter?

Jill answers:
OK, I’ll admit that I’ve started colon cleansing and, yes, after my last treatment then the whites of my eyes were noticeably whiter. My mother noticed it and a good friend noticed it, it wasn’t just me noticing. Both asked me what I was doing different, thinking I was taking a new vitamin that was doing it.
My last treatment was my 4th or 5th colonic. I go in for my next one on Thursday and I’ll make it a point to see if there’s any change in my iris but, so far, it was only noticeable on the whites of my eyes.
Also, I might add, that I’ve had a lifelong problem with chronic constipation, just like my Dad, so someone who has never been afflicted with intestinal problems like ours might not benefit from colon cleansing.

Laura asks…
Are the people who answer with stuff like colon cleansing and stuff like that a scam or for real because? read?
Is it for real all the people who answer with colon cleanse, or its in youre pipes, and wuyi tea or what ever lol. are they serious? Because it seems they all have different names but type it the same and they ALL say they lose 17 lbs.??
It confuses me.

Jill answers:
It just seems like spam to me. They post the same responses regardless of the question.
They know there are a lot of people who are obsessed with weight in this section, so they’re hoping to gain some business.

David asks…
Why are people so susceptible to scams like colon cleansing and homeopathy?

Jill answers:
Because people dont want to do any work, most are all lazy and think if they cleanse their colon they will somehow be healthier instead of eating well and exercising. They want a quick fix.

Richard asks…
How do i relieve my dogs constipation?
My pom is constipated I was wondering is there any natural way to relieve him of this at least until monday he has not gone in 4 days please help me he is only 2 years old.

Jill answers:
Canned pumpkin (not spiced pie filling!) will possibly help relieve his constipation. Only use a few tablespoons, more can cause diarrhea from the excess fiber.
If this does not work, please take your dog to the veternarian. Actually, it would be best to still give the vet a call before doing anything.

Steven asks…
can dewormer or medication for nausea cause constipation in dogs?
My newly adopted dog just started dewormer for hookworms yesterday at 6:30 and has not pooped since. She is also on medication for nausea. Do either one or both cause constipation? She has not even tried to potty. I have taken her out several times, she just sniffs around for a while and then is ready to go back inside.

Jill answers:
Does she eat? Well its possible that it may be constipation, but it could be the medication. The medication might have side effects which may cause this problem!

Robert asks…
What can be done for constipation in dogs?
My 3 yr. old Shih Tzu is having difficulty with his bowel movements. He is straining but either nothing happens or the fecal matter is small and hard. Is there a natural remedy without having to go to a vet?

Jill answers:
Canned pumpkin works great. NOT pie filling, but just the canned pumpkin. A tbs or so a day. It helps my toy poodle tremendously. Helps with anal gland issues too. Vet recommended..and I approve!
HTH

John asks…
Does soy milk cause constipation in dogs?
My roommate just got a dog and he keeps giving him soy milk. The dog won’t go #2 at all, unless he doesn’t get the soy milk the night before. I think its because of the milk, my roommate insists its from the move. Does soy milk cause constipation in dogs? I don’t know if it helps, but the dog is a yellow lab/ german shepard mix and he’s about 4 or 5 years old. thank you!

Jill answers:
Many dogs have issues with soy. Please encourage your roommate to stop giving the dog soy milk.
My beagle once got into a veggie burger and he spent the next day puking his guts out. I doubt it’s very good for them.

Maria asks…
How can you treat constipation in dogs?
My dog has been constipated since yesterday, as it’s the weekend there is no vet available, so until tomorrow i want to try something else. I’ve heard pumpkin is good but she won’t eat … and hasn’t even taken a drink of water.
i managed to get her to drink some milk but this hasn’t really done the trick either.
any advice?

Jill answers:
Put a couple table spoons of oil in her food

Thomas asks…
What are the benefits of a colonic?
How often should i get one? What does it do?

Jill answers:
They claim to remove toxins. They don’t, in fact ‘detox’ in the alt med sense is a scam. Your bowel is not dirty. Colon cleansing: risk without benefit.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colon_cleansing

Sandy asks…
What are the benefits of colonic irritation?

Jill answers:
A nice soothing ice lolly

Robert asks…
Has anyone had a colonic? Are they expensive? Are there really that many benefits?

Jill answers:
I was thinking about it! I talked to a friend who told me about a diet instead. Try a cleansing diet! I did and lost 10.5 pounds and 17 inches in only 9 days. I was very happy with the results and continued on the program and lost 25 pounds in 5 weeks. This is the fastest I have ever lost with other diets like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Medifast, Slimfast etc…. Cleansing works by removing toxins from your body. You get toxins from your food (pesticides, preservatives, food additives, colorings) water, chemicals, pollution, medications, alcohol, hormones that the animals you eat were fed etc….YUCK! The toxins get coated with fat and remain in your body. To remove the fat, you have to remove the toxins. This system worked for me, maybe it can work for you too. You can check out the website or call this toll free number 1-877-587-4647 for more info. The program is not cheap, but it is worth every penny since it works and keeps you motivated. Good luck!

Maria asks…
Anybody have good results with a colonic?
I’m curious who’s had one for health benefits. Did you lose instant weight? Did it make you feel less sluggish and tired?

Jill answers:
Colonics have been around for thousands of years. Done by a professional colon therapist they are safe. A colonic cleans out the intestine of fecal matter that could have been there for years….i think when john wayne died there was 29lbs of ancient feces inside him. Usually a series of colonics are done, you’d be amazed what comes out! People generally feel lighter, less tired and sluggish, eyesight can even improve! It just gets all that toxic stuff out! Dont eat before a colonic and be sure afterwards to drink lots of water to flush toxins through. And a colon therapist can gives you tons of advice, and they dont hurt, you just lie there and relax.

Steven asks…
What’s the difference between an enema and a colonic?
Whats the benefit of something like this.. Would taking laxatives help just as much to remove toxins? I know people say its crap and to save your money so If that’s what your going to say.. I’ve already heard that but I’m still interested in what’s best for the buck, if they all work the same?, which is better? & if you honestly feel better afterwards?

Jill answers:
Well, there is a major difference between a laxative, enema and a colonic.
A laxative is taking orally and absorbs water through your digestive system so that you pass a stool quickly. It’s generally used for rapid relief of constipation and is not good for you. It can cause lazy bowels where you cannot go to the toilet normally without a laxative.
An enema is a water or caffeine based liquid which is entered into your bowel (lower intestine) so that you can clean out any excess or leftover fecal matter. It has similar problems to a laxative but is really just there to clean you.
A colonic is deeper and more gentle than both. It’s when a small tube is entered into your body through your rectum and water is pumped into your intestines. The water is then pumped out of you bringing with it and left over fecal matter within your bowels and some people believe that it also gets toxins which have built up.
I think colonics are gentler but at the end of the day a diet high in fiber and water is best for your bowels.

Lizzie asks…
Do people really have pounds of feces in thier colons and intestines?
I mean ive heard that people have 4-30 pounds of stuff in them that should be , could be cleaned out…
is this true?
perhaps a medical person could field this one?

Jill answers:
How much fecal matter weighs depends on how much and what you eat. Also, if you eat sufficient fiber your waste matter will be heavier and larger. And no, intestines are not supposed to be constantly full. On average, you have about 4lb of fecal matter transiting inside your system, but yes, there have been cases of people who suffer from impacted matter and have up to 10lb of feces in them, some even vomit feces.

Chris asks…
do bearded dragons have salmonella in there intestines?
Do bearded dragons naturally have salmonella in there intestines and faeces? I need to know for a college assignment, thanks in advance!

Jill answers:
All reptiles have them. Every single last one of them. But if you wash your hands after handling and cleaning their cage, there is a smaller chance you will catch salmonella. Good luck on yout paper!

Robert asks…
Large intestine does not totally connect to small intestine. Toxic feces leaks out thru the opening .?
“Leaky Gut” is also diagnosed for my entire intestine that means there are small holes in my intestine that could be described like fishnet . This condition adds to the first condition of feces “leaking” out thru my intestine. It becomes toxic in my body.Help!

Jill answers:
Necrotizing Enterocolitis…very bad stuff…what exactly is the question?
Interesting Maryn….because it sounds like he already went to a doctor and was diagnosed……and by calling people on this site “bozo’s”, you just called yourself that…..some of us really practice medicine, but have a little free time and come here to relax. Plus he still didn’t ask a question….
Chron’s disease is not a hole in the GI tract, it’s inflammation. Huge difference.

Richard asks…
Why do Veterinarians sell Science Diet? Its primarily corn, fillers & chicken carcass including intestines?
If you read the ingredients the first three items listed are usually, in any order, Brewers rice, corn gluten & chicken by-products.
Rice & corn are merely fillers with no real nutritional values.
By-products, as in chicken by-products, are everything that could not be sold for human consumption including the heads, feet, carcass & intestines, complete with feces, blood & whatever else was in there at the time of slaughter.
So why is this horrible product considered anything but waste?

Jill answers:
Vets don’t really know about dog food. They just know about dogs more then food.

Joseph asks…
Why is there a bit of blood in my feces? Should I be worried?
I have some blood coming out in my feces. My intestines/stomach do not hurt, although I have felt as though my stomach is slightly swollen (I am not sure whether or not this is related). There is only a small amount, it isn’t dark blood or anything, and it doesn’t hurt when I use the bathroom. I haven’t (excuse the term) “pooed” in a while, and when I do it is either a small amount or a lot. There is a small amount of blood in it; and I find it worrying. I have seen other answers on this website suggesting that people with symptoms similar to mine should see a doctor; but I am not sure. Firstly, I do not think that it is very severe, and secondly, I would not like to inform my parents before it is absolutely necessary (I am only 15). Thanks in advance!

Jill answers:
Most likely it’s just constipation, but it really would not hurt to get it checked out. Tell your parents, that’s what they are there for! If you don’t go to the doctor, you may be dealing with something much worse later. Tell them. They would want you to.

Mary asks…
What are the Benefits of a Colon Cleanse?
And what is it? Is it some kind of herb or vitamin that you take?

Jill answers:
A person can carry 9 – 12 lbs of fecal matter in their colon. The fecal matter then causes all sorts of illnesses. A human body is “suppose” to detox itself, but with all the chemicals used in growing food and in the air our body can’t dispose of all of the toxins. It can also cause you to gain weight because your body creates fat cells to protect your body against the toxins. When you flush the toxins you also flush the fat. I just finished a cleanse and I lost 34 lbs and 77 inches, gained my energy back and feel a lot healthier and lighter. You can learn more at http://www.thedetoxlife.com/. I hope this helps.

Sandy asks…
Is quitting smoking necessary for colon cleanse?
I have been smoking for 11 years, and I have tried to quit in the past, but was unsuccessful. Lately, I have been looking into colon cleansing and its benefits, and would like to try it. One of the recommendations was absolutely no smoking. I know smoking is bad, and I know that it seems pointless to even consider a cleanse if I’m gonna smoke. I was just wondering if smoking causes MORE damage or are they suggesting that it is just GENERALLY a bad thing to do?

Jill answers:
There are zero health benefits from “colon cleansing”, and potential harms. (the cost, side effects, infection, perforation, peritonitis, death)
There are serious harms from smoking tobacco as well as zero benefits
Quit smoking for it’s own sake, and don’t waste your time on colon cleanses.

Charles asks…
What are the benefits / negatives from colon cleansing?
I want to do this but would like to know if there are benefits and problems with doing one. Any help with a particular brand that I should buy?

Jill answers:
Well, Mike S was the closest… They do help you to poop, and they are often similar to a high fiber diet.
However, Colon cleansers are much more potent and powerful than a high-fiber diet, which is why they cost so much more, as he so eloquently put it. That’s why many people prefer them if they don’t like what would be required in a high-fiber diet…. It gets it over with faster. It’s most beneficial for people that don’t eat a lot of fiber, but want to change to a healthier diet with more fiber because it “gets you through the transition” faster. Simply put, in that situation, you’ll have more liquefied stools for only a few days instead of a few weeks with a diet change.
Overall benefits for Colon Cleansers is that most people feel cleaner, healthier, and more energetic… Like after a good poop or after you’ve been on a high-fiber diet for a while. Most people that stick with a full cleansing tend to repeat them every so often if they don’t have enough fiber in their diet.
As far as brands to get, anything with a good variety of ingredients from a good quality company (which most that are sold in stores are) would be just fine. As long as there are at least 3-5 ingredients for cleansing, it should be fine, but the best bet is a few sources of fiber and preferably some probiotics (like Acidophilus, for example).
A lot of doctors may say Colon Cleansers are useless or a waste… But typically those are the doctors that haven’t used them and haven’t talked to people that have used them.

George asks…
(Q#1)What purpose or benefits is it to do a colon cleanse?(Q#2)Would prune juice work the same??

Jill answers:
I guess the theory is that toxins are held in your colon…along with undigested particles of meat and other stuff. Prune juice would not do the same. A hycolonic needs to rinse all those folds in your colon with water, or sometmes yogurt- to replentish the good flora that lives in there…so the theory goes.

John asks…
Does anyone have an opinion about doing a Colon Cleanse?? Is it safe? What are the benefits? The Dangers?

Jill answers:
I agree with reading up on cleanses and making your own decision. Depending on your constitution it may be easier for you to fast one day a week and get the same results over a period of time. I’ve posted some information sites below.
