Your Questions About Gardners Syndrome

Betty asks…

Where can I find extensive information on Gardners syndrome?

It is possible that my husband has this syndrome and all the information I have found so far is vague.

Jill answers:

Gardner syndrome is a rare, inherited disorder characterized by multiple growths (polyps) in the colon (often 1,000 or more), extra teeth (supernumerary), bony tumors of the skull (osteomas), and fatty cysts and/or fibrous tumors in the skin (fibromas or epithelial cysts). Gardner syndrome is a variant of familial adenomatous polyposis, a rare group of disorders characterized by the growth of multiple polyps in the colon. Gardner syndrome is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait.

Joseph asks…

why do they call it gardners syndrome?? please help!?

i know its called familil adenomateous polyposis
but where did the ”gardner” come from?
please i need it for a essay!

Jill answers:

The syndrome is named after the first investigator to describe the condition.

Donna asks…

does anyone know if the polyps in Gardner syndrome are usually deeper in the intestine and not near the colon?

A friend has cysts forming on his body that are forming at slightly rapid rate, and I have looked up these cysts could be caused by this disease. He has other problems, and I think it’s something more serious than just random cysts and red lesions. side note: checked for HIV, it was negative.

Jill answers:

The polyps from Gardner syndrome can occur anyplace in the intestine (small and large intestine) They have even occurred in the stomach.
This disease is hereditary and the patients suffering from this need to be closely monitored

James asks…

If my mom has Gardner’s Syndrome, but I don’t, what are the chances my kids will have it?

My mother has Gardner’s Syndrome, but I don’t. My father, nor anyone in his family has it either. I know that between them, I had a 50% chance of having it, so does that mean any children I have will have a 25% chance (saying my partner doesn’t have it)?

Jill answers:

Actually If I’m readying Wikipedia right Gardner’s Syndrome is a dominate gene. Which means if you have the gene you will have the symptoms of Gardner’s Syndrome.

That also means that if you don’t have any Gardner’s Syndrome symptoms then you don’t have the gene, and can’t possible pass it on to your child. Don’t take my word on this though; It may tern out I just don’t remember my genetics correctly ;)

Sharon asks…

What are my chances for getting pregnant?

I am 33, I have polycystic ovarian disease, Gardners syndrome, and no large intestine. As well as many surgeries to remove benign tumors. Can I or even should I get pregnant?

Jill answers:

I have PCOS as well. I would suggest you try naturally at first and consult an endocrinologist FIRST who would better know your options (they would more than likely put you on a fertility drug if natural doesn’t work). Really, at 33 you are pushing it. I went to my gyno and I’m 25 and she said I should start trying at least 2 years from now. She said for my health that I should have 2 kids before 30. It’s less chance of complications (which you can definitely have with fertility treatments…high chance of multiples).

Your Questions About Where Is Your Colon

Robert asks…

where is your colon and what is a colon?

im curious cause im watching house and it has something to do with colon

Jill answers:

In the anatomy of the digestive system, the colon is another name for the large intestine

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colon_(anatomy)

Lisa asks…

Where is your colon located at?

Jill answers:

Your butthole.

Daniel asks…

If your Colon is in pain, where do you usually feel it? Front or back?

Jill answers:

There is not usually referred pain with colon problems. However, if it is present it is right upper quadrant or epigastric.

David asks…

what is that procedure where you release toxins out of your body from your colon & how much does that ?

procedure cost in a state like tennessee

Jill answers:

Colon cleansing and it’s quite a popular thing nowadays. You could probably go into GNC, or similar natural health place, and pick up an at home kit for around $25.

Ruth asks…

where are some good places in dallas to go to get your colon cleansed?

do they both get the job done, job meaning i want to lose some stomach weight…because if the pills do, then thats fine

Jill answers:

A colonoscopy or just a colon cleanse? Because a colon cleanse you can get from a pharmacy, a Eppoduril may need a prescription though, call & see. This you do yourself.

Good Luck,
Summer

Your Questions About Colonix Cleanse

Robert asks…

Colonix Cleanse?

Has anyone tried the “Colonix“, and if so, what were your results. I think, in theory, it sounds great! But, here is my funny paranoia…is the stuff you drink actually CAUSING all of the funny “stools” they show on their site, or were they really in your body to begin with? (How is THAT for skepticism) Just wanted to know if anyone out there had tried it, and any opinions???

Jill answers:

The site nutritionaltree.com has some reviews posted there. Do a search for colonix, that will bring them up. The site doesn’t sell the product though, it just rates different name brands.

Joseph asks…

Has anyone out there tried a colon cleanse product called colonix by Dr. Natura?

If so, please share your experience, I am looking for a credible colon detox system.

Jill answers:

Hi Chantel

Here is a small testimony (below) from a health client of mine when I recommended Dr Natura colon cleansing products. This is the healthiest step you can do for better health. Outstanding!

I used the Dr. Natura’s colonix and detox due to the severe hives I was getting. The conventional doctors couldn’t help me. I did use a supplement that kept them somewhat under control. But, that wasn’t good enough. I would get hives so bad on my face and body that I would have to hide out in bed all day and had to explain to my 6 year old son that mommy couldn’t go out to play. I finally came to the conclusion that my hives were caused by years of exposure to environmental toxins, additives in foods, and body products. What did I have to loose? So, I used it for 30 days and I have not had one single outbreak of hives! This was a miracle and I regained my life back! Dr. Natura’s products are of very high quality, they have won several awards for their products, and they have a 30 day money back guarantee and great customer service. If you looked at the photos of the stuff that came out of people, I didn’t have that. But, I continue to take their multivitamin, Detoxigreens, daily and wouldn’t ever purchase another vitamin in my life. I swear this is the best product I have ever used and it is worth every penny. Also, a little tip – if you use their product and like it you can go to their testimonial site and submitt your testimony and they will send you a free product. I have only purchase the original 30 day colonix and detox, and one other time I purchase the vitamins. Since then I have sent in testimonials and I have received free fiber and vitamins. Now that is great business! Give it a try – you have nothing to loose and their products are very gentle. My husband used it and he is out in the field inspecting everyday. He was not exploding and running to the bathroom every 5 minutes. Good Luck!

Best of health to you

Charles asks…

does colonix the colon cleanse have any side effects or is there anything i should know about this drug?

Jill answers:

I dont know much about colonix but I do know about bowtrol as I have used it before and it helped me out tremendously. It didnt cramp my stomach and it wasn’t too harsh on my system either. It gave me a lot of energy and helped me lose a couple of pounds as well.

I decided to try bowtrol because it was an all natural colon cleanser and I recognized everything that was on the ingredients label. You should definitely do your research before you try anything that is going to deal with your digestive system because once you screw that up you can pretty much hang it up which is why I researched before I tried bowtrol.

There is a really good review of it at the site in the link below and it would do you some good to check it out. It may very well answer all of your questions that you have about colon cleansing as it is geared towards people that are new to cleansing there colons.

Good Luck!!

Thomas asks…

Which is better / more effective ~ Dr. Natura Colonix or Nature’s Secret Ultimate Cleanse?

I’m trying to find the best internal cleansing program out there – I’ve heard Dr. Natura’s Colonix is good but have also read good comments about the Nature’s Secret program. Anyone tried either or these or maybe both of these and know which one is better?

Jill answers:

I use the Nature’s secret one. I’ve never heard of the other…sorry. I like it. It doesn’t give you cramps or anything like that. Very easy on your system. I would recommend it. I found it on ebay cheaper than on their websites. Check that option out.

Mark asks…

has anyone used Dr. Natura’s Colonix body cleanse?

I’m thinking of getting it so i can detox my whole body and just have everything come out lol….I’d liek to have anyones opinions and experiences in any body cleansing methods….. thank u!!

Jill answers:

I myself, have never tried body cleansing diets, pills, or meals. I would stay away from them, changing your bodies diet, or taking an herbal supplement can be a bad idea, considering that most of those pills are a bunch of random herbs put together, to make people think that natural, cleansing is good for their body,

final input: i wouldn’t recommend doing it, and if you are, probably talk to your doctor first, they would know more than i do.

Your Questions About Colonoscopy Procedure Pain

Mark asks…

Chest Pain after colonoscopy and endoscopy?

I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy yesterday morning. After the procedure I was experience mild chest pains right in the middle of my chest behind my chest bone. I kinda figured it is a minor pain associated with one of these procedures. The doctor also took a biopsy, I belive it was from the colonoscopy, but i’m not positive. The pains have continued today and are not unbearable, but have been concerning me. Does anyone know if this is normal or should I talk to my doctor about this? Thanks for the hlep!

Jill answers:

I had an endoscopy when I was 25 and had chest pain from the back up of gases that they pump you up with. Could be that, but I would call your Dr. Let them tell you if it’s common.

Sandra asks…

Will I feel pain during colonoscopy and endoscopy exam?

I’m 49. Do to strange things happening with my body I am going to have to get an endoscopy and colonosocopy along with an prostate exam!

Has anyone here had these procedures?

Will I gag with the endoscopy? Will I feel pain with the colonoscopy and prostate exam?

I fear. I don’t’ want any pain.

Jill answers:

I had an endoscopy done earlier this summer, and it does not hurt at all. They give you a sedative while you’re waiting so that you’re nice and calm beforehand, then they sedate you heavily during the procedure.

In fact, you are so heavily sedated that you likely won’t remember a single thing about it. The last thing I remember was them telling me that they were about to start the sedative in my IV… Then I was waking up in recovery with a nurse doing paperwork next to my bed. No pain, no discomfort at all. The next day I had a little bit of a scratchy throat but nothing bad at all.

I know they knock you out for colonoscopies too, so you should be out for everything. You will need to have somebody drive you home because you will be pretty sedated for several hours after the procedures, you won’t be able to drive yourself. Good luck!

Jenny asks…

I had a colonoscopy on Jan.17, 2007. COuld I still be having left lower quadrant pain from the procedure?

already talked to dr. have an appt. this week. was put on librax for cramping….I had ileus in oct. and also pertitoneal cysts removed, but many remain…they wanted to make sure they werent cancer. results= neg. but no one wants to take out the remaining cysts–they think maybe pain is bowel related, but all bowel tests have been normal. Any one else have the same problems? what fixed things for you?

Jill answers:

Ask the doc……It may depend on whether he removed any polyps or not.

Nancy asks…

Has anyone had a colonoscopy w/a pediatric scope and pain killers only?

Pain killers like Demerol or Fentanyl. NO sedatives/amenesiacs like Versed <> or Propofol.
I want to know your experience if you’ve done this awake, not knocked out or in a twilight sleep or sedated.
I plan on doing this next week, my tolerance for pain is phenominal, and I want to be awake during the procedure.
I was just curious what people that have had this done under these conditions would rate the pain level.

Jill answers:

Fentanyl is a very strong drug, it’s 80-100 times stronger than morphine. Trust me, you will be fine. Fentanyl is what is used for conscious sedations (knocking people out for procedures) sometimes they only give enough to make you feel no pain, other times they knock you out completely.

Michael asks…

Kidney pain after colonoscopy?

I had a colonoscopy 2 days ago. The day I had the procedure done I felt fine. But the next day I started experiencing severe pain in my back sides to the point where I could barely walk. It felt as though I’ve been kicked very hard. Today the pain isn’t as severe but I think it may get worse as the day goes on. Does this sound normal? Has anyone experienced this before?

Jill answers:

I have heard of people having sharp lower back pain after colonoscopy. It goes away after a few days, but just to be safe I’d call your doctor’s office and let them know. They might suggest ice or heat application, or prescribe a couple days worth of pain meds.

Your Questions About Sigmoidoscopy Colonoscopy

Thomas asks…

Whats the difference between a Colonoscopy & sigmoidoscopy?

ive done 2 colonoscopys but i have to do a sigmoidoscopy.I’m disturbed they don’t give you any pain medication? i mite as well do the whole thing right? story’s or experiences please feel free

Jill answers:

Sigmoidoscopy is relatively a piece of cake compared to a colonoscopy–for both the patient and the doctor.

As mentioned already, the sigmoidoscopy goes only through the last part of the colon. This means that there aren’t as many sharp turns for the scope to traverse and the exam takes much less time. A lot of the discomfort from the exam is related to the air that they need to pump into you in order to “open up” your intestine. Since the exam goes only so far and is much shorter in duration, much less air needs to be put into you, thus limiting the discomfort.

From personal experience: The worst part is the doctor putting the scope into you. The second worst part is the sensation of feeling like your pooping on the table as he takes the scope out of you! Just relax during the exam, and it’ll be over before you know it. It’s literally 3-5 minutes…probably closer to 3 if the exam is normal.

FYI…if you are truly extremely anxious about it, most doctors won’t have an issue with giving you a short-acting anti-anxiety pill to take prior to arriving to the office. Just ask.

Sandy asks…

what is the difference between a colonoscopy and a Sigmoidoscopy?

Is the preperations for a Sigmoidoscopy the same?

Jill answers:

Same kind of deal

a camera up the you know where

prep the same

Maria asks…

What is the difference between a colonoscopy and a sigmoidoscopy?

Jill answers:

Colonoscopy is a test that allows your doctor to look at the interior lining of your large intestine (rectum and colon) through a thin, flexible viewing instrument called a colonoscope. A colonoscopy helps detect ulcers, polyps, tumors, and areas of inflammation or bleeding. During a colonoscopy, tissue samples can be collected (biopsy) and abnormal growths can be removed. Colonoscopy can also be used as a screening test to identify and remove precancerous and cancerous growths in the colon or rectum (colorectal cancer).
Sigmoidoscopy looks at the inner lining of your anu s, rectum, and the lower part of the large intestine (colon). These tests are used to look for abnormal growths (such as tumors or polyps), inflammation, bleeding, hemorrhoids, and other conditions (such as diverticulosis).

James asks…

Is a patient awake during a sigmoidoscopy as opposed to a colonoscopy when a patient is asleep?

My sister is supposed to have it done in a couple of months from now.

Jill answers:

You usually get an anaesthetic such as Midazolam or Propofol for such a procedure.
Have a look at:
http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Day_surgery_and_anaesthesia

Daniel asks…

Which is better colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy? Serious answers only please.?

I am 70 years old what is better for me?

Jill answers:

The colonoscopy is best. Be sure you make sure they clean the instruments. Many diseases have been created by bad sterilization. Demand that they clean the instruments with autoclaving, even if you have to pay additional. Be sure the biopsy channels are clean as well.

Hospitals have become incredibly lax in their sterilization techniques these days and this has caused a huge outbreak of staph infections in many, many hospitals.

Good luck to you
