Maria asks…

What does my colonoscopy results mean?

I just had a colonoscopy and these were the detail findings:

The mucosa appeared congested, erythematous, friable, and granular in the rectum, sigmoid colon, descending colon, and transverse colon. The cecum and ascending colon were endoscopically unremarkable……………What does this mean?

Jill answers:

The inside of the large intestine is lined with a moist tissue known as mucosa. Essentially, that report specifies that your colon contained excessive amounts of mucosa; this mucosa was red, it was easily crumbled, and it was rough and grainy.

Your large intestine makes the shape of a square – apart from the bottom: it ends half way across and then goes downward. I’m sure you can find a picture. The transverse colon is the top line, the descending colon is on the right side, and the sigmoid colon is a small section along the bottom. The rectum is just above the anus, and stores feces before they are excreted.

The ascending colon is the left side of ‘the square’, and is the first major landmark in the digestive system after the ileum (the last part of the small intestine). The caecum is a little pocket between the ascending colon and the appendix. These were both ordinary.

You could find a picture on Google if you need more clarity.

Your Questions About Feces In Intestines

Lizzie asks…

Do people really have pounds of feces in thier colons and intestines?

I mean ive heard that people have 4-30 pounds of stuff in them that should be , could be cleaned out…

is this true?
perhaps a medical person could field this one?

Jill answers:

How much fecal matter weighs depends on how much and what you eat. Also, if you eat sufficient fiber your waste matter will be heavier and larger. And no, intestines are not supposed to be constantly full. On average, you have about 4lb of fecal matter transiting inside your system, but yes, there have been cases of people who suffer from impacted matter and have up to 10lb of feces in them, some even vomit feces.

Chris asks…

do bearded dragons have salmonella in there intestines?

Do bearded dragons naturally have salmonella in there intestines and faeces? I need to know for a college assignment, thanks in advance!

Jill answers:

All reptiles have them. Every single last one of them. But if you wash your hands after handling and cleaning their cage, there is a smaller chance you will catch salmonella. Good luck on yout paper!

Robert asks…

Large intestine does not totally connect to small intestine. Toxic feces leaks out thru the opening .?

“Leaky Gut” is also diagnosed for my entire intestine that means there are small holes in my intestine that could be described like fishnet . This condition adds to the first condition of feces “leaking” out thru my intestine. It becomes toxic in my body.Help!

Jill answers:

Necrotizing Enterocolitis…very bad stuff…what exactly is the question?

Interesting Maryn….because it sounds like he already went to a doctor and was diagnosed……and by calling people on this site “bozo’s”, you just called yourself that…..some of us really practice medicine, but have a little free time and come here to relax. Plus he still didn’t ask a question….

Chron’s disease is not a hole in the GI tract, it’s inflammation. Huge difference.

Richard asks…

Why do Veterinarians sell Science Diet? Its primarily corn, fillers & chicken carcass including intestines?

If you read the ingredients the first three items listed are usually, in any order, Brewers rice, corn gluten & chicken by-products.
Rice & corn are merely fillers with no real nutritional values.
By-products, as in chicken by-products, are everything that could not be sold for human consumption including the heads, feet, carcass & intestines, complete with feces, blood & whatever else was in there at the time of slaughter.
So why is this horrible product considered anything but waste?

Jill answers:

Vets don’t really know about dog food. They just know about dogs more then food.

Joseph asks…

Why is there a bit of blood in my feces? Should I be worried?

I have some blood coming out in my feces. My intestines/stomach do not hurt, although I have felt as though my stomach is slightly swollen (I am not sure whether or not this is related). There is only a small amount, it isn’t dark blood or anything, and it doesn’t hurt when I use the bathroom. I haven’t (excuse the term) “pooed” in a while, and when I do it is either a small amount or a lot. There is a small amount of blood in it; and I find it worrying. I have seen other answers on this website suggesting that people with symptoms similar to mine should see a doctor; but I am not sure. Firstly, I do not think that it is very severe, and secondly, I would not like to inform my parents before it is absolutely necessary (I am only 15). Thanks in advance!

Jill answers:

Most likely it’s just constipation, but it really would not hurt to get it checked out. Tell your parents, that’s what they are there for! If you don’t go to the doctor, you may be dealing with something much worse later. Tell them. They would want you to.

Your Questions About Intestine Cleansing

Sharon asks…

Is it possible for an enema to cleanse the small intestine as well?

From what I’ve heard in the past, an enema is only capable of cleansing the large intestine, but if enough water is used, is it possible to completely rid the small intestine of everything as well?

Jill answers:

I can’t imagine how dangerous that would be. You’d be backing up feces into the small intestine. I don’t know that it’s even possible – they’re separated by a sphincter. What is it you want to get rid of in the small intestine? Digestion is still going on.

Carol asks…

Have you done a colon and intestine cleanse before?

How do I do one and what is it like? Do you feel any different?
What is the name of the product doctors give patients before they have a colonoscopy that flushes everything out?

Jill answers:

I had a colonoscopy and everything was cleaned out. I felt no difference what so ever. I had no more energy after the colonoscopy than before. There are over the counter products you can use at the pharmacy that will clean you out. Just ask the pharmacist he/she can recommend the products you need.

Betty asks…

How do you cleanse the small intestine?

I’ve cleansed my colon with hydrotherapy now I need to do my small intestines

Jill answers:

Why would you want to do that? That’s where most of the digestive processes take place and where nutrients are absorbed into the body. You’ve already been scammed into a waste of time colon cleanse, try to start thinking a little more critically.

Thomas asks…

What is the long term side effect consuming slimming tea / tea dat wrks to cleanse intestine through bowels?

Jill answers:

If you’re speaking of tea like the Lacy Labeau Super Dieter’ tea… Then your body soon becomes immune to teas like this and after a while, the affects of the tea won’t be as strong as when you first started out. It’s best to use moderation when doing so with these products not everyday. However, I have used the green teas and they seem to do fine with a couple of cups a day.

Sandy asks…

If you wanted to cleanse your system (your bowels/stomach/intestine), what is the best way to do it?

If you wanted to cleanse your system (your bowels/stomach/intestine) of all the junk in it, what is the best way to do it?

Jill answers:

They sell stuff for that called detox you can get at health food stores. Or you can try drinking a lot of juice and eating a lot of fiber.

Your Questions About Symptoms Of Colon Cancer

William asks…

What are the symptoms of colon cancer?its dancer for life?

Jill answers:

Colon cancer is also known as anal or rectal cancer. It is also often referred to as colorectal cancer. When tumors grow in the colon, this means that something is wrong with the large intestine. It may start from mild conditions such as fatigue, shortness of breath and irregular bowel movements. You may also experience some color changes in your stool, abdominal cramps and bloating. Colon cancer symptoms may not really be seen on a first-hand basis. You may only see it after a long time that it has been there.

Richard asks…

can anyone tell me what are the symptoms of colon cancer, or how is it detected?

Jill answers:

YOU MUST SEE A DOCTOR BUT USUALLY A SIGN SHOULD BE BLEEDING BUT ONLY A DOCTOR COULD TELL….

Charles asks…

Could I have Colon Cancer at 16?

I am 16 years old and I have been experiencing an symptom of colon cancer for a little while.
Sometimes, but not always when I poop I have blood in my poop, or just a little bit on the outside of my poop. It is always bright red, never dark, and I do not have any of the other colon cancer symptoms, but it is a big symptoms, and my grandpa died of colon cancer. I do feel that I am a little young but it does still concern me, Is it possible that it could be something else?

Jill answers:

You may want to look into Krohn’s disease. It usually presents itself in younger people, and a lot of the time it can develop into colon cancer. Gives you similar problems and issues.
Hope you don’t have either tho. Good luuck.

George asks…

If u have 8 out of 9 symptoms of colon cancer does that mean u ahve it?

Jill answers:

No. The most important ‘symptom’ happens to be your age . . Cancer is often age specific, so colon cancer and cancer of the organs generally happen in older people. Colon cancer can occur in younger people, but it is rare . . So if you are having 8 out of 9 symptoms and you are a teen or young adult . .it is probably something else. However no one here knows what you are experiencing, so it is always best to go to a doctor and have it checked out. If it makes you feel any better . . Colon cancer rarely has symptoms . . That is why most older adults have a colonoscopy to check for nodules . . You can’t feel them until they are advanced.

Look at the following illustration that demonstrates how a nodule will start out tiny and grow . . It is only when the disease becomes large that anyone would notice symptoms.

Thomas asks…

I’m 14, but I have all the symptoms of colon cancer.?

What else could it be? Because I’m pretty sure someone my age can’t have colon cancer

Jill answers:

The only symptom of colon cancer that distinguishes it from routine digestive problems is unexplained and significant weight loss. If you haven’t lost a bunch of weight, its unlikely you have colon cancer. Something as simple as getting dehydrated from hot weather can cause bowel problems resembling colon cancer. Describe the symptoms to your parents and ask to see a doc if the symptoms are bothering you.

Your Questions About Large Intestine Problems

David asks…

help plz… what problems can occur with the large intestine if it is underactive/overactive?

ten easy points…plz help

Jill answers:

The large intestine is where most of the water from digested food is absorbed. If it is overactive it can lead to constipation. If it is under-active it can lead to watery stool, and dehydration.

Robert asks…

what is the possible problems if our large intestines comes before the small intestines?

Jill answers:

Malabsorption of nutrients into the body

Sandy asks…

How do I get rid of bags under my eyes?

I’m only 16 and yet I’ve had these for as long as I can remember… Which would probably rule out the lack of sleep possibility. Recently I’ve been trying potato slivers but they aren’t helping much, although perhaps I should give them more time.
I do spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen, which I’ve heard might be the problem, and I’ve also heard it could be liver or large intestine problems
Frankly, these are just annoying, I hate the way they look, I want to get rid of them.

Jill answers:

Well, it is probably genetic. Someone of your ancestors has them or had them, too. I have them, and so did my mom, her dad, and so on.

Until you are old enough to have plastic surgery, and still want to get rid of them then, try a dab of Preparation H rubbed under each eye. I advise doing this only when you are going out, and not when you are just going to be hanging around the house because you gotta just love yourself sometimes.

Gary Sinise has these, too, you know and he is as sexy as all get out.

James asks…

I just had gastric bypass 3 days ago and gas keeps building up in my large intestine,?

this happens after I drink water is this normal? It is pretty uncomfortable, I am afraid to push the gas out that I might cause a problem in the fresh suturs. Any suggestions or will this just pass over time?

Jill answers:

First off you didn’t mention how much you are drinking at a time. It may not be the drinking that is causing the gas. After surgery, especially if it was lap, you have a build up of carbon dioxide from the surgery. This is not in your bowel as gas, it is floating around in your abdomen. You will need to walk to help your body absorb the gas.

If you are gulping or drinking rapidly, it may not be gas but rebellion from your pouch. You should sip water, but sip it very frequently. Your pouch is still healing and too much pressure from too much of anything in your pouch, can cause discomfort.

Don’t force anything, either upwards or downwards. Your pouch is swollen and the internal stitches are still fresh. Any pressure may not “pop” your stitches, but will not help you feel any better either. Plus the gas that escapes is very fragrant.

Keep in mind that everyting is not healed around your pouch. When you eat or drink, try small amounts at a time. This will also help you to know whether the food you are eating will be well tolerated.

I had my surgery 3 months ago and have lost 60 lbs. If you need to ask more questions you can join the Yahoo group that I am a member called Weight Loss Surgery Friendship & Support. They are a great bunch of people who constantly try to help with any problems by expressing their experiences. Good Luck.

Ruth asks…

Please someone answer i am freaking out!i have swellon large intestine?

ok i have lump under right rib at the right most side !i went to surgeon and he examined my abdomen and told me that my large intestine is swellon .and he said that it require no treatment .also i have stomach heaviness problem .please tell is there a treatment of swelling of right colon .my doctor is saying it require no treatment but the lump is grown bigger since 2 months please help.

Jill answers:

Vitamin B1 helps against problems in the intestines and colon. You can always get your nutrient levels checked out by the doctor/nurse. They will take a blood test to see if you’re low in any of them. PS: coffee medication, and excessive alcohol depletes (takes away) nutrition.

Things that sooth the digestive tract, the intestines, and the colon: 100% aloe vera juice, peppermint tea, and evening primrose oil (all sold at health food stores, if you can’t find them in your grocery store).

Eat healthy foods that are alkalizing (first thing in the morning, have a glass of water with 1 freshly squeezed lemon in it. Lemons are really alkalizing!!)

Go on a greens and vegetable juice fast… Google ‘Victoria Boutenko Green Smoothies’ for more information!

Sugar, sugar substitutes (aspartame, sorbitol, etc..), junk food, alcohol, chewing-gum, and anything else that’s unhealthy can trigger problems in the intestines!
