Montgomery County is experiencing an increase in violence among notorious Hispanic street gangs, including MS-13 and the Latin Kings, the county’s chief of police said Thursday.
Chief J. Thomas Manger said there was no apparent reason why gangs were targeting other gangs, apart from their mutual hatred of each other.

“The only reason they need is to be in a different gang,” Manger said after a Montgomery County Council Public Safety Committee meeting.

Manger said a recent stabbing in Aspen Hill highlighted the “totally random” nature of gang violence in the county.

Police have charged two teens in connection with the March 11 stabbing of a 20-year-old Silver Spring man, who Manger said was in extremely grave condition.

“[The teens] were walking by, gang signs were exchanged, and it ended up being a stabbing,” Manger said. “It was a chance encounter.”

Brad Botwin, founder of the anti-illegal immigration group Help Save Maryland, said it was no surprise to learn that gang-related violence was increasing in the county.

“What a shock, I’m falling out of my chair,” Botwin said.

Botwin said Manger and the county’s elected officials had made the county so inviting to illegal immigrants that it was an attractive place for violent gang members as well.

An alleged MS-13 gang member and illegal immigrant is accused of shooting up a Montgomery County bus in November, killing a 14-year-old honor student. The incident drew outrage from anti-illegal immigration groups and contributed, in part, to a new county policy that directs police to forward the names of people charged with violent crimes to federal immigration authorities.

Manger said he didn’t know how many Hispanic gang members were illegal immigrants, but that the new policy would prevent illegal immigrant gang members who commit violent crimes from being able “to go back on the street, hopefully.”

“We still haven’t secured our borders,” Manger said. “Somebody gets deported, how long does it take them to get back? … Not long.”

Manger said the larger Hispanic gangs “are all over the county,” but the majority of gang activity occurs in Wheaton and Silver Spring.
There are about 40 active gangs in Montgomery County with 1,150 members, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Why wont government pass out a marshal law and start killing all the gang members? It is the easiest solution to our problems on the streets. Hundreds and thousands of victims die each year because of gang activity. So why not put an end to it all.. and let the good hard working people live in peace and harmony. methadone and drug addiction?

methadone being the least effective way of dealing with addicts using heroin as it is just a bonus to top there addiction up (proven as there is only a 5% success rate at present to cure these leaches on society and doesn’t reduce there crime rates i’e theft and preying on the vulnerable which is causing fear in the most vulnerable members of society and has been proven that more than 80% of crime is attributed to these people the tax payer invests huge amounts of money wouldn’t it be sensible if these individuals where treated more harshly i’e cut the huge amounts of benefits they recieve which only go to fund there habits and install a more harsher regime that would take them out there environment that is designed at present to encourage there continuing drug taking.

Hi, i have just started on a methadone programme for Opiate drug addiction. I know very little about methadone, i want to know what dose people take and for what? also how long it is used for? i’ve heard a lot of people say they’ve been on it for years and i find that quite disheartening, it just seems like i am swapping one drug addiction for another! My friend is dating a supposed “Sex Offender”?

My friend started dating a man a few weeks ago and he told her recently that he is a convicted sex offender. He claims that years ago he “Unknowingly” downloaded child pornography. He is on probation, attends weekly support group meetings (Not court ordered, according to him, but he does it so it “looks good” to the courts) and will continue to be on probation for the next 6 years.

My issues are as follows:

He claims that he “Had to tell her” because he was asked to attend her nieces baptism and he has to “Disclose that he is an offender” which makes complete sense. What does NOT make sense is that when we searched for his name on the registry he is not listed. His response to this was “Since I was such a low-level offender I am not required to register for a list so I won’t show up.”

This, of course, is not true. Even Tier 1 offenders are considered felons if they are in possession of child pornography and are required to register for 15 years and since he still has 6 years of probation I can only imagine that his crime was within the past 15 years.

I’m scared that maybe he is lying about his name, or maybe about the whole thing. But who the hell would tell someone they are a convicted sex felon?

I need advice: Does anyone out there know if it is at all possible he is telling the truth and that, since he is such a low level offender, he would not be on any lists? I have background checked him and found him, his previous addresses and other information and searched the registries in both NY and PA (The two states he’s lived in) and came up with nothing.

Normally I wouldn’t care but since I have a 3 year old daughter I am completely paranoid about the entire situation. I know I will end up losing my friend over this since she believes everything he says but while that is a concern my daughters safety and my peace of mind is a lot more important.

I’m 26 years old and a NYC resident. I’ve never been arrested or even close to it.
However when I was 18 me and a bunch of my friends rented a house in PA for our prom weekend getaway. there was alot of drinking going on and we ended up getting summones for drinking.
PA law differs alot than NY law regarding underage drinking, we received big $400 dollar fines, and the cops said legally we could lose our drivers licenses even though we weren’t driving or in a car.
Thankfully we didn’t lose our licenses and I was able to pay off the fine.
Well recently i applied to a job in which they did an extensive search on my background. I was mailed the results and everything came back positive no crimal conviction in the state of NY, no findings in the national federal court search, no findings in the sex offender registry etc..
However in the criminal offender database/national database section something came up. It says Disorder Conduct Hazardous, from my PA incident. Is this Bad?

the disability is for my mother who recently had a colostomy and is having trouble doing many things
