Your Questions About Colonial Life

Donald asks…

colonial life?

what was life like in the colonial america for children?woman?&the wealthy? it and describe the education and work

Jill answers:

They all wore hair undershirts and brushed their teeth with pinestraw, even the wealthy.
Education was required for everyone up to the tenth grade.
Unless you were a farmer, your job was selected for you and you went right to work after tenth grade.

Michael asks…

In what ways did colonial life and society change from 1700 to 1775?

This is one of my essay questions. The whole prompt is: Analyze the ways in which colonial life and society changed from 1700 to 1775. Since it’s an essay question, a longer, elaborate answer would be appreciated.

Jill answers:

“A longer, elaborate answer would be appreciated”

Hmmm. I’m sure it would, but since we’re not a free essay service, all you’re getting (at least from me) is a resource so YOU can write your own essay.

Mandy asks…

In what ways was colonial life attractive and in what ways wouldn’t seem tedious and dull to average twenty?

First century American?
How were the educational, cultural, and leisured side of colonial life affected by the basic nature of the economy?

Jill answers:

The education system was far better than it is today in terms of knowledge, today public education is mandatory back then people earned if they really wanted to so they learned subjects like experts. Culturally wise that depends on your culture since you cant say if a culture is better or not lol but i think it was better. You know you have more conservative ideals and more liberal ideal depending on what region of the US u where from. And the economy effected it allot you know if you where poor you will be working harder and no education and no real leisure time. I would have lived in the time period personally especially in Philly; John Adams ( my favorite prez who u should read up on) said it was the most beautiful city in the world and everyone was nice ecs. Ecs. Lol hope this helped.

Your Questions About Rectal Cancer Treatment

Lizzie asks…

Rectal Cancer Treatment?

My husband will have a resection for rectal cancer this Friday. His doctor wants to do a temporary ileostomy and reconnect it in 6 months. How difficult is it to retrain your colon to function normally. We have heard it is sometime imposible to be far away from a bathroom ever again. Is this true?

Jill answers:

How does your husband feel about the ileostomy? It can be really hard to deal with, and may affect his self-confidence but it really helps with the healing on resection wound and helps prevent it from becoming infected or breaking down etc. It is possible to have this reversed and you’re right in thinkin it can take a while for bowel habits to return to ‘normal’ but everyone is different. Dietary advice will be given when he has the resection and he will likely be visited quite frequently by a stoma care specialist nurse that will help teach him how to care for his stoma effectively.

It can take a couple of weeks for things to settle down once the reversal of the ileostomy has been performed and a controlled diet can help in reducing frequency as certain foods can aggrevate the bowels, but your husband will come to learn in time which foods are ideal or should be avoided. Don’t expect the worst though, some people’s bowel habits can return to normal in time.

Good luck to the both of you.

Steven asks…

I would like to know where to get info about rectal ozone treatment for prostate cancer?

Jill answers:

Webmd.com is a good resource: http://www.webmd.com/search/search_results/default.aspx?query=rectal%20ozone%20treatment%20for%20prostate%20cancer%3F&sourceType=undefined

John asks…

Best institute in the world for Recal cancer..?

Please don’t be offended by the word ‘best’; but when it comes to life and death, guess I am being a bit indiscreet. I am in a developing country. By God’s grace, while I have enough money, there are no world class hosptials here for treatment. Can someone please let me know the best hospital for rectal cancer treatmenet…preferably in US but can be anywhere actually…again, by ‘best’, I mean…among the top ones…since (as far as I know) some hospitals/institutes do tend to just (probably inadvertently) specialize and gather reputation for treatment in one disease. I am looking for such hospital in Rectal cancer treatment.

Jill answers:

Among the top ranked hospitals in the US for rectal cancer include:

New York Presbyterian Hospital

Pittsburgh Cancer Institute

Mayo Clinic

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center

The email addresses are listed below. I also included a site called Cancer Monthly which will give you more information on rectal cancer, treatments, etc. You might want to check with your insurance company before proceeding. Good luck.

Helen asks…

suspect recurrence of rectal cancer,in patient finish neuadjunctive treatments and TME?

my father had rectal cancer T3N2M0 and he finished chemoradiatonv therapy ,and then TME surgery ,after that he had chempotherapy ,befor one week they did for him CT and saw 3 enlarged lymphnodes in common ,eternal and internal iliac chain,
now they order for him PET scan ,and i am really worry about him,in sunday we will do PET scan, can anybody tell me if its mean that there is metastasis in this case ,i cant sleep from that :(

Jill answers:

Ali_endo, Enlarged lymph nodes, while they could be due to cancer spread, could also be due to inflammation caused by recent surgery or therapy. Only examination of tissue under the pathologist’s microscope can be absolutely certain. Your dad’s doctors are doing the right thing in searching now to see if any cancer remains. Even if some cancer is found, it may be possible to surgically remove the lymph nodes and get a cure. Stay hopeful. I hope you’ll now sleep a little easier.

Laura asks…

Medical tourism for treatment in USA..?

I am in India and a close relative is considering going to US for treatment in Rectal cancer. Does anyone know of some agency who can facilitate this? This will include visa, travel, stay etc.

Jill answers:

Major medical centres have departments to deal with this. Here’s an example that I have used before:

Your Questions About Latin Kings Gang Sign

Daniel asks…

Why are Hispanics attacking each other Hispanic gang violence grows where is the love at do gangs replace?

Why are Hispanics attacking each other Hispanic gang violence grows where is the love at and do gangs replace parents in terms of love and acceptance in becoming the new family?
Montgomery County is experiencing an increase in violence among notorious Hispanic street gangs, including MS-13 and the Latin Kings, the county’s chief of police said Thursday.
Chief J. Thomas Manger said there was no apparent reason why gangs were targeting other gangs, apart from their mutual hatred of each other.

“The only reason they need is to be in a different gang,” Manger said after a Montgomery County Council Public Safety Committee meeting.

Manger said a recent stabbing in Aspen Hill highlighted the “totally random” nature of gang violence in the county.

Police have charged two teens in connection with the March 11 stabbing of a 20-year-old Silver Spring man, who Manger said was in extremely grave condition.

“[The teens] were walking by, gang signs were exchanged, and it ended up being a stabbing,” Manger said. “It was a chance encounter.”

Brad Botwin, founder of the anti-illegal immigration group Help Save Maryland, said it was no surprise to learn that gang-related violence was increasing in the county.

“What a shock, I’m falling out of my chair,” Botwin said.

Botwin said Manger and the county’s elected officials had made the county so inviting to illegal immigrants that it was an attractive place for violent gang members as well.

An alleged MS-13 gang member and illegal immigrant is accused of shooting up a Montgomery County bus in November, killing a 14-year-old honor student. The incident drew outrage from anti-illegal immigration groups and contributed, in part, to a new county policy that directs police to forward the names of people charged with violent crimes to federal immigration authorities.

Manger said he didn’t know how many Hispanic gang members were illegal immigrants, but that the new policy would prevent illegal immigrant gang members who commit violent crimes from being able “to go back on the street, hopefully.”

“We still haven’t secured our borders,” Manger said. “Somebody gets deported, how long does it take them to get back? … Not long.”

Manger said the larger Hispanic gangs “are all over the county,” but the majority of gang activity occurs in Wheaton and Silver Spring.
There are about 40 active gangs in Montgomery County with 1,150 members, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

Michael asks…

Marshal Law and Gangsters?

Why wont government pass out a marshal law and start killing all the gang members? It is the easiest solution to our problems on the streets. Hundreds and thousands of victims die each year because of gang activity. So why not put an end to it all.. and let the good hard working people live in peace and harmony. For example I know that I’m not happy where I live,, i live in Brooklyn New York/ Latin Kings terrorize the streets, so do Bloods and Crips, and new forming gang sign SDN all over the street walls. They shoot, sell drugs, attack smaller kids in groups, never fight one on one, always being disrespectful yet themselves demand respect. Prisons are over crowded because of them, and majority are Mexicans or Spanish related. African American Bloods and Crips but I see more Latino guys than any other race. So why wont government do anything about it? They waste our money,, prisons do no help, they got tv and good food. Ive been in Rikers Island myself so I know how it works,
Sorry I was in the RUSH while typing. Plus gang members are not ONLY MY problem. If you are not RICH and know for sure in another city JOB is not guaranteed and you got 2 kids and you are a single mother, there is no way to move. Plus I was talking about Gangs not a RACIAL discussion here. Gangsters don’t have to be a certain religion or certain color. Why I mentioned Latinos is because 80 million of them here are Illegal

Jill answers:

Hitler had a similar solution, to get rid of those pesky Jews.

If you give the government that much power, then it will be abused. You can have Latin Kings killing you for no reason or you can have thugs with badges doing it.

What the government *should* do is (especially in NYC) is allow citizens to carry weapons to defend themselves, as well as legalize the things that end up funding these gangs through the black market.

By the way, it’s martial law, not marshal law.

James asks…

Why do pro-illegal activists believe in open border?

You guys think Open Borders would help the USA?

I don’t want to be an *** but it would turn USA in to Mexico. I mean we would be living off a loaf of bread everyday. Do you think our country can afford illegals? no we cant afford you people. If we could I would not mind having you people in my country as long as you rid of gangs like MS-13 and Latin Kings, pay your taxes, goto school and college, pay taxes, and most importantly learn English and not hate the USA. Hating the US national team is a sign of hating America its like hating the US military and that pisses me off.

Ill tell why Open Borders wont work there is a city in Massachusetts and the illegals are destroying the city. The city due to letting illegals stay and making it illegal to report crime on an illegal and also making it illegal for illegals not to get benefits(they pay no class). The county is now in serious debt and crime has sky rocked majority of the crime are commit by illegals and now gangs like MS-13(I know they are not originally a Mexican gang) are in the Area.

Do you actually think Open Borders will benefit the USA?

BTW Mexicans complain about illegals in Mexico yet they criticize Americans for feeling the same way about illegal immigration. That is a double standard. You guys are racist as well La Raza is racist like the KKK are and I hate racists. Everyone is equal no matter the race.

Why does Mexico have one the toughest immigration laws in the world. It was ranked as having the 2nd toughest border in the world only slightly behind guess which country?

North Korea.

If you report me it means you cant handle a serious question and that your are a coward.

Jill answers:

There should be a quicker, more efficient process to become legal, sufficient enough to keep out the indebted, or the criminals, but not long enough, or expensive enough that it deters people that can barely speak English.

America was built on immigrants, and will continue to do so, people want to move to America and work hard and get more money than they can at home, it’s called the American Dream, you may remember it from movies.

Your Questions About Latin Kings Symbols

Steven asks…

Question about GD (Gangster Disciples)?

Ok i dont know much about them. My brother joined up with them. I am not very happy about it. I myself am a Christian. I was wondering if anyone could tell me interesting things about GD. There symbols, why they want to be part of them, and if they are legit in the gang world… Also I know the leader of the latin kings gave his heart to the lord has any powerful GD members or founders became Christians or even changed their lives around?
**10 points to the Best answer**

Jill answers:

The history of the Gangster Disciples begins with Larry Hoover, who entered and rose through the ranks of the Chicago gang circuit in the 1960s and took control of the gang in 1974 by leading a series of increasingly powerful alliances.[1] He ended up running the gang from prison until he was transferred to a higher security wing in the 1990s[citation needed]. Hoover was born in Jackson, Mississippi on November 30, 1950. He moved to Chicago with his family in 1955[citation needed]. At the age of 16, Hoover joined a gang of 50 older youths called the Supreme Gangsters.[citation needed]. Hoover and his Supreme Gangsters hung around their neighborhood at the corner of 68th and Green Street in impoverished Englewood on the South Side of Chicago.[citation needed]. Hoover was kicked out of high school on the first day of his sophomore year, in 1965, after being shot in the thigh by a rival gang member[citation needed].

The gang is estimated to have over 50,000 members in the chicago-city area, and 200,000 members in the country, and even 600,000 members world-wide. Although the gang has alot of Wanna-be’s the gang considers them Gonna-Be’s which is why the gangs membership is so high. The gang has also been seen in the game Video game -Saints Row- the 3rd street saints (one of the street gangs in the game) are supposedly based off of the GD’s but this is still unknown. The gang has a very strong presence on the eastern coast of the USA.

The gangs graffiti has been reportedly seen in US miilitary bases in iraq. Chicago chief of police has talked with President Bush concerning this, he is worried that while over there the gang is getting urban warfare training and will bring it back to the US and train the other members, he said “the last thing we need in chicago are disciples with military tactics walking the streets”.

The gang is considered a criminal organization and is one of the most violent gangs in the USA. It is the strongest gang in the Folk Nation

Visit of Violence

The plane landed at about nine at night. I called a taxi up outside of the airport. “Riverside Lane please,” I told the driver, as we started the drive.
“Miss, that will be twenty dollars,” the driver informed me as he pulled to the curb. I handed him the cash and exited the cab. I was here.
“Oh my gosh, I thought you were coming on Monday! I’m so glad you came early. We have more time to catch up. Come in, there’s so much to tell you. For once I can’t wait till Monday. The principal approved your visiting,” she told me with a smile.
She then proceeded to drag me up the stairs where she yelled for her brother, Troy, to come and grab my bags. The smell of her mother’s spaghetti welcomed me as we caught up on what had occurred since she moved to this enormous, exciting city. Before bed we made plans of visiting Chicago’s Mall the next morning.
“Wake up! We need to get ready. My mom wants to drop us off in less than a half an hour,” she explained shaking me.
“Okay,I’m going,” I grumbled.
After our scramble for ponytails, makeup, and clothes was over we plopped into the car singing on our way to the mall.
Smoothies in hand, we set to explore the amazingly huge mall compared to the small city mall that I was accustomed to.
“Is the school different?” I asked.
“Yeah, the teachers don’t trust us at all,”
“Why not?”
“The gangs are all over the school. Some hide it, but others show their symbols proudly. It makes all the teachers nervous. They’ve had shootings before.” she told me. “The Latin Kings” are the biggest gang. I hope that Troy won’t get into any of that. They are bad news,” she explained to me.
We turned our conversation to lighter topics as we roamed around. Lexy and I stopped in several stores but made our last stop a cheap jewelry store with lots of small items. A store clerk in her mid-thirties approached us, “Can I help you girls with anything?” she asked us.
“Oh, no thank you, I think that we’re just looking around,” we replied.
“All right well I am sitting right there. So I can see if you think you want to try the five finger discount out,”
I was shocked at the women’s mistrust and rudeness. But Lexy seemed somewhat unaffected and kept browsing. As we left the store I wondered what we did to deserve that women’s mistrust. I didn’t have too long to ponder it though, when Lexy suddenly grabbed my arm in a death grip as we were leaving the mall.
“That’s them, The Latin Kings, bad news? Remember?” “And oh no, Troy is with them.” I couldn’t stop her as she ran over to Troy and confronted him.
“So this is what you have been doing? Why you have been acting so different? I can’t believe this,” she exclaimed.
She started to continue but was interrupted by what must have been the leader.
“You’re in over your head little girl, I strongly advise you to leave before we have to take further action,” the leader spoke.
He looked tough, serious, and not in a good mood.
“Lexy, get out of here this isn’t the place for you,” Troy told her in a stern, serious tone.
“What about you Troy? You swore to me and mom that you wouldn’t get involved in this sort of thing if we moved here,” she spoke in an angry tone.
“Lexy, get out of here now,” Troy yelled.
“I will not…” she started before she was striked by Troy’s hand.
She just stood there, frozen with a shocked look of horror on her face. Troy had the matching expression on his.
“Lex? Lexy come on let’s go,” I said softly.
When no reply came I gently dragged her away from the gang and sat her down on a bench where she proceeded to cry on my shoulder. I looked over at Troy over her shoulder and gave him the worst look I could manage. He looked away shamefully and then loyally trailed behind the gang.
“It just makes sense, now that I think about it,” she said sniffing.
“He’s been coming home late, skipping school, he even stole mom’s car one night,” she continued.
“I mean it all adds up, I guess I just couldn’t believe that Troy would get into that kind of thing,”
“He doesn’t hang out with the right people, they have been pressuring him about this for a while now. He just wants to fit in.He’s not like the other guys in it, the one’s who like it who do it to have a purpose, the ones that are just plain mean and who need the attention and satisfaction of it. Or the ones that are abused and need to do this sort of thing to get over. Troy’s not those guys,” she said in a rush.
“Shhh, Lexy it’s going to be all right, I have a plan,” I reassured her.
———————————
The next morning we readied ourselves while we pretended to not notice the sound of her mother’s panicked, tired voice calling various numbers looking for Troy in the background. I was excited but somewhat nervous about what we were going to do.
Lexy led the way to the principal’s office to propose our plan.
Butterflies were swarming in my stomach. We entered and began what we had planned.

Unfortunately, I was a bit off on the address. A man passed by walking his dog and I clutched my purse a little tighter knowing it held pepper spray that my dad had made me bring going into a big city.I hated how suspicious I was of every man that passed. They could be perfectly nice people but I still reached my hand in my purse every time a gentleman passed. After a few blocks, I had reached my destination. My best friend’s house. I rang the doorbell and waited impatiently. I heard the familiar sound of a dog barking, someone shouting “Door!” and quick, graceful footsteps bounding down the stairs. All these sounds I had heard before just at a different door front, a different city. Lexy’s blonde head popped out from behind the door. Her lower body tried to move her dog from the entryway.
Her blue eyes shimmered as she set off in a fit of excited shrieks and squeals.

Sharon asks…

I was asked to show this to as many as i can , i ask you to do the same will you ?

Take out a one dollar bill, and look at it. The one dollar bill you’re looking at first came off the presses in 1957 in its present design. This so-called paper money is in fact a cotton and linen blend, with red and blue minute silk fibers running through it. It is actually material. We’ve all washed it without it falling apart. A special blend of ink is used, the contents we will never know. It is overprinted with symbols and then it is starched to make it water resistant and pressed to give it that nice crisp look.

If you look on the front of the bill, you will see the United States Treasury Seal. On the top you will see the scales for a balanced budget. In the center you have a carpenter’s square, a tool used for an even cut. Underneath is the Key to the United States Treasury. That’s all pretty easy to figure out, but what is on the back of that dollar bill is something we should all know.

If you turn the bill over, you will see two circles. Both circles, together, comprise the Great Seal of the United States . The First Continental Congress requested that Benjamin Franklin and a group of men come up with a Seal. It took them four years to accomplish this task and another two years to get it approved.

If you look at the left-hand circle, you will see a Pyramid. Notice the face is lighted, and the weste rn side is dark. This country was just beginning. We had not begun to explore the West or decided what we could do for Western Civilization. The Pyramid is un-capped, again signifying that we were not even close to being finished. Inside the capstone you have the all-seeing eye, an ancient symbol for divinity. It was Franklin ‘s belief that one man couldn’t do it alone, but a group of men, with the help of God, could do anything.

“IN GOD WE TRUST” is on this currency. The Latin above the pyramid, ANNUIT COEPTIS, means, “God has favored our undertaking.”

The Latin below the pyramid, NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM, means, “a new order has begun.” At the base of the pyramid is the Roman Numeral for 1776.

If you look at the right-hand circle, and check it carefully, you will learn that it is on every National Cemetery in the United States . It is also on the Parade of Flags Walkway at the Bushnell, Florida National Cemetery , and is the centerpiece of most hero’s monuments. Slightly modified, it is the seal of the President of the United States , and it is always visible whenever he speaks, yet very few people know what the symbols mean.

The Bald Eagle was selected as a symbol for victory for two reasons: First, he is not afraid of a storm; he is strong, and he is smart enough to soar above it. Secondly, he wears no material crown. We had just broken from the King of England . Also, notice the shield is unsupported. This country can now stand on its own. At the top of that shield you have a white bar signifying congress, a unifying factor. We were coming together as one nation . In the Eagle’s beak you will read, ” E PLURIBUS UNUM”, meaning, “one nation from many people”.

Above the Eagle, you have thirteen stars, representing the thirteen original colonies, and any clouds of misunderstanding rolling away. Again, we were coming together as one..

Notice what the Eagle holds in his talons. He holds an olive branch and arrows. This country wants peace, but we will never be afraid to fight to preserve peace. The Eagle always wants to face the olive branch, but in time of war, his gaze turns toward the arrows.

They say that the number 13 is an unlucky number. This is almost a worldwide belief. You will usually never see a room numbered 13, or any hotels or motels with a 13th floor. But think about this: 13 original colonies, 13 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 13 stripes on our flag, 13 steps on the Pyramid, 13 letters in the Latin above, 13 letters in “E Pluribus Unum”, 13 stars above the Eagle, 13 bars on that shield, 13 leaves on the olive branch, 13 fruits, and if you look closely, 13 arrows. And, for minorities: the 13th Amendment.

I always ask people, “Why don’t you know this?” Your children don’t know this, and their history teachers don’t know this. Too many veterans have given up too much to ever let the meaning fade. Many veterans remember coming home to an America that didn’t care. Too many veterans never came home at all.

Charles asks…

How many Christians believe that these are the actual bones of the wise men?

Wise men’s bones part of Catholic relics exhibit

ARIZONA DAILY STAR
The history
Epiphany, a Christian holiday celebrated Jan. 6, commemorates the day the Magi visited the newborn Jesus. In Latin-American tradition, the day is known as Three Kings Day.
The Bible doesn’t say how many Magi followed the star until they found Jesus, but through the years the number three has been adopted in Christian tradition because they brought three gifts — gold, frankincense and myrrh. The story says the Magi — or wise men — came from the East and followed the star in search of the newborn king.
The three men are believed to have been astrologers, and their submission to Jesus often is viewed as the submission of magical arts and superstition to the Lord. Because the Magi apparently arrived after Christ was born, the date of Jan. 6 was adopted in about the fifth century. Various cultures adopted numerous Epiphany traditions through the years.
One that’s popular in Europe includes blessing homes by writing the year, with the symbols C + M + B, in chalk above the front door of homes, a practice sometimes called smudging. Next year, that symbolism would read: 20 C + M + B 08.
Some believe the letters stand for the names of the three Magi later adopted by tradition: Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar. Others say they symbolize the Latin phrase “May Christ bless this house” — Christus mansionem benedicat.
If you go
The “Relics of the Three Wise Men” exhibit will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8650 N. Shannon Road, 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. today; and at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave., 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Tiny fragments of bone believed to be remains of the three wise men who visited the newborn Jesus will be on display in Tucson for two days this week.
The Catholic relics tour, titled “Come Let Us Adore Him,” will be at the Northwest Side’s St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church today, and at Downtown’s St. Augustine Cathedral on Tuesday.
“This is the closest I’m going to get to God in my physical lifetime,” said Arizona Knights of Columbus spokesman John Garcia. “And since this is a time of Christmas, it puts us closer in touch with the birth of Christ.”
The Arizona Knights of Columbus, a Catholic men’s group, and the Apostolate for Holy Relics, a non-profit organization, are co-sponsors.
The exhibit is also expected to feature relics from the manger, fabric from the Virgin Mary’s veil and Joseph’s coat, and a bone fragment from St. Elizabeth, who was the Virgin Mary’s ninth cousin.
“It’s a tangible thread between heaven and Earth,” said Thomas Serafin, a lay Catholic who is president of the Apostolate for Holy Relics.
“It allows us to gather as Christians and sometimes as non-Christians, put aside the man-made differences, give thanks, and ask for intercession for our lives and our families,” he said.
The relics, which come from a collection in the Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) in Cologne, Germany, were on display in Phoenix Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 and will return to Phoenix and Gilbert after the Tucson exhibit. Arizona is the first stop on the relics’ international tour. The next stop is Guam.
Though the authenticity of the relics hasn’t been scientifically proven, Garcia, the Arizona Knights of Columbus spokesman, said they have a long history of being venerated.
“Remember that this was a time when they needed something physical to believe with. It was a time of coming out of superstition,” he said.
The Apostolate for Holy Relics says Emperor Flavius Zeno brought the Magi relics from Persia to Constantinople in the fifth century. Believers say the relics later appeared in the Basilica of St. Eustorgius in Milan, and then were taken to Cologne in 1162 after Holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa of Germany invaded Italy.
The display in Cologne is called the Sarcophagus of the Magi. The exterior is seven feet of gilded silver and jewels, and inside are three golden-crowned skulls believed to belong to the Magi, or wise men.
“If my faith is what it is, it allows me to believe these articles really do go back to the point and time when they touched the Lord and Savior,” said Tucsonan Antonio Otero, a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and marshal for the Arizona Knights of Columbus. “That’s why I’m so excited — it’s something tangible that I can see with my eyes, and my Lord’s eyes gazed at them as well.”
Otero said he’s not sure what turnout to expect. It is a busy time of year and it’s difficult to gauge interest in relics, he said.
But he added that the relics are coming during the season of Advent, the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas, an important time of year to reflect on the Christmas season.
Serafin’s organization has sponsored similar relic tours in Tucson.
In October 2003, about 2,000 Tucsonans saw the Tilma of Tepeyac relic, a half-inch square of cloth that Catholics believe was part of a tilma — an Aztec word meaning a poncho-like cloak — worn by St. Juan Diego in 1531 when the humble Aztec peasant spoke to the Virgin Mary on Tepeyac Hill outside Mexico City.
In February 2005, at least 1,200 Tucsonans saw the Relics of the Passion, said to be from Jesus Christ’s last hours.
“We do need tangible things to make our minds work,” Serafin said. “Scientific testing isn’t as important as the meaning in the hearts of the people who visit the relics.”

Jill answers:

Sorry, I don’t believe. No concrete proof. Even if these are really their bones, what’s the point? Bible says lets avoid idolatry. Moses body was hidden by God so the Jews–who probabley were influenced by idolatrous Egyptians–would not worship his “relics”.

Thomas asks…

Blood oozing out after chemo for Rectal cancer?

My brother with Stage 2 Rectal cancer, had undergone Chemo and Radiation, which got over just yesterday. The Doctor had scheduled a follow up for July 30th, for assessing the effectiveness of Chemo and radiation and setting up a date for surgery.

However, since yesterday, my brother has been literally oozing blood from the rectum. While we are meeting the Doctor in a couple of days (we stay quite far from where the Doctor is), just wanted to understand what the possible reasons for this could be.

During Chemo and radiation, the Doctor was quite positive and my brother very rarely had this ‘dripping blood’ problem. Very very concerned..

Jill answers:

He should call his doctor immediately. With cancer you do not ‘wait’ . . You call night or day at any time . . There are doctors on call who can help you. His doctor would not want him to wait. Call right now. Good luck.

Susan asks…

When do you know it’s time to run to the emergency room for an anastomotic leak from rectal surgery?

In treatment for stage III rectal cancer. 3 wks post op, have been having pressure rectally, chills, HA. Told Oncologist. Tested blood WBC 12,000. I told him, Infection, he told me -allergies.
2 days later. Felt faint in shower kneeled down (250cc of drainage came out rectally). Told surgeon – have fever when not on Ibuprofen, on have low temp. Surgeon sees me & tells me, I have a small leak, not an abcess. Next day I go for chemo & surgeon tells chemo doc that I have a leak & an abcess which was drained. I’m on anti-infectives, but still have pressure pain. Is not better yet or has gotten worse. Confusion is s/s of sepsis, peritonitis, chemo, abcess, & leakage is the same. I do have more pain & s/s if I don’t take ibuprofen. What to do so I don’t die cause of medical stupidity or seem like a crazy lady running to the ER for nothing? Thanks for ranting….

Jill answers:

You have very good reason to run to emergency.Don’t think your crazy. If anyone does who cares it’s your life and body not theirs. If your not feeling comfortable with the Doctors please see some more.Don’t wait and worry what they may think.Their are some very good Doctors and some who are not.I sure hope you get better care.”GOD BLESS YOU”

Ruth asks…

who is the best surgical oncologist in france who can do surgery for rectal cancer?

my father undegro first stage of treatment which is chemoradiotherp and now am looking for best surgeon can do the tumor excision,

Jill answers:

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any one particular physician that your father can go to. The first two sources below are two of the leading research institutes in France. I highly suggest though, having your father go to the nearest US Embassy (the third source below) and explain his situation. They will be able to recommend a physician and a hospital. Good luck.
