We all got to go sometime. At 86, it is hard to say. Depends on the type of cancer (encapsulated on non-encapsulated) Non is the spreading type as it goes into the blood stream. Really, at this age, I do not think she could handle the chemo because it would leave her open to other illnesses(such as pneumonia) and that is game over. And it is very harsh. Makes one feel like one has the flu.coughing and puking.
Enjoy everyday she is still with you while she is still able to function somewhat normally.
I'm so sorry. I have stage 3 (spread to the lymph nodes, but no other organs) too, but only 3 nodes were invaded. The average survival rate for stage 3 is about 60% with only surgery, but no chemo, for 5 years. If 5 or more nodes are invaded, the average is lower than if 4 or less were invaded. Colon cancer is very slow growing compared to many other types of cancer, but there is no set rate at which it will spread, or even if it will after surgery.
