Argentina Clausura Team Of The Week: Round Five

Goalkeeper: Enrique Bologna, Banfield—Made save after save to aid Banfield in their 2-1 victory over Tigre. Could not do anything about Tigre’s only goal, but was dominant all night long, including several acrobatic saves.

Central Defence:

Leonardo Sigali, Godoy Cruz- Preventing Estudiantes from scoring is nothing easy. But, neither is getting past Sigali. The youngster displayed his quickness and stability in the back, commanding a defence that looked stellar.

Matias Martinez, Racing- After giving up a surprising three goals against Olimpo in a narrow defeat a week ago, Martinez led the charge as Racing went top of the table, holding Colon to nothing in a 4-0 victory over the weekend. The defender annoyed Esteban Fuertes, not allowing the goal machine to find the net.

Jonathan Bottinelli, San Lorenzo- In a game in which Boca actually showed a little offensive power, Bottinelli wouldn’t have any of it, relying on his jumping ability to head out numerous balls. He also kept Pablo Mouche quiet down the wing in San Lorenzo’s 1-0 victory.

Midfield

Nicolas Cabrera, Independiente-It feels like it’s been years since Independiente won a league game. Obviously, with the triumph in the Copa Sudamericana, many forget about league failure. The fans wearing red in Avellaneda hope the team is on the right track now after a critical 4-0 thrashing of Newell’s. Cabrera scored two goals in the first eleven minutes to lead El Rojo.

Claudio Yacob, Racing- Yacob was flawless in the midfield, physically imposing his dominance on Colon. Set up Gabriel Hauche for the fourth goal as Racing exited the weekend as league leaders.

Israel Damonte, Godoy Cruz- Scored the only goal in Godoy’s 1-0 victory over Estudiantes with a brilliant header to the back post.

Martin Rolle, Olimpo- Gorgeous display in the midfield showing his passing ability and creativity to dominant the ball in his side’s 1-0 victory over All Boys.

Strikers:

Gabriel Hauche, Racing- Set up the first three goals and finished the fourth with a wonderful chip, proving his worth for 90 minutes in the 4-0 victory against Colon.

Teofilo Gutierrez, Racing- Bagged a brace as La Academia moved into first place, scoring both by following the play and not giving up.

Santiago Silva, Velez – River Plate keeper Leandro Chichizola went four games without giving up a goal. Chichizola, meet Silva. The Uruguayan scored twice on River in the 2-1 victory in El Estadio Monumental. Granted, the first one was off an ugly error from the young keeper, but showed his touch with a fantastic finish in the 84th minute to secure the win.
