Suboxone Detox from Heroin?
My hubby has been on Heroin for 2 months (someone told him he was buying something else). either way- now he's been on it and he thinks that he can just go to a dr and ask them for a suboxone rx. do drs do that? i'm afraid that he isn't going to get what he's looking for and turn for the worst. any advice? he is refusing a detox place- and just wants the suboxone…please if you are out there….please.
if you go to a drug counselor or a family health center of some sort they usually can tell you where to find a doctor who prescribes suboxone, some will see you for free but usually they charge for the consultation and then he will check on how bad your husband's use is, talk it through, maybe a drug test to make sure he is actually using, and voila, suboxone prescription.
He is going to have to wait out the induction period, which means that before getting taking his first dose he will have to not take anything for usually 24 hours, or he will go through precipitated withdrawal, which is supposed to suck really bad.
Not all doctors can prescribe suboxone…They have to have a "specialty license". Suboxone is a horrible choice for a pain med, and an even worse choice for a maintenance drug.
Sub would be a good choice to do a short detox…like 7 days starting out at 4-8 mg's and weaning down to nothing quickly. That's how they do it in 30 days rehabs for heroin, oxy, hydrocodone, and even Tramadol.
So the next problem is finding a doctor willing to do a short detox…Most of them want you to stay on sub for long time, or life.
It really is a horrid drug. I was on it for 2 years and it messed me up bad. Watch this pod cast.

You had the best idea…a 30 days rehab. Maybe he could get a few Suboxone pills from someone and detox at home, with some comfort meds.
